There are a few things that bug me when I'm reading. I really hate when I'm reading a contemporary book and the hero or heroine are constantly using the word baby, honey, or any other sappy endearment. I actually tend to stay away from contemporaries because of this.
I'm also not the biggest fan of over the top story lines. I want to believe that what I'm reading could possibly happen. Yes, I know that I love vampires books and that they aren't real, but if the story is good then I can believe that they are real. If somehow one of the characters in the story suddenly able to live forever and it's not explained and the power was just given to them just because, I get super frustrated.

Over the top story lines kill me too! Then when they have plot holes and don't explain certain things its just unacceptable. It's a double whammy for sure.

I don't like endearments that feel forced. Any book where the hero calls the heroine "little one" in any language is automatically out for me.

Hopping through. I'm totally with you on "Baby" and "Honey." I don't like those words in real life and I don't like them in books. I hate in Breaking Dawn where Edward always calls Bella "Love." Gag.

I completely understand about contemporaries - I dislike them because the plots are based on silly misunderstandings.

I have to agree endearments like that make me want to gag, but I am a massive contemporary fan and find that most are ok.

I hear ya about the "been there-done that" storylines. Although I do appreciate a good vamp read as much as the next person; I admire authors who think outside the book.
