These letters are written while Cam Rothermere, the Duke of Sedgemoor, is away from his wife Penelope on a quest to save his friend (once enemy) the Marquess of Leath from a blackmailer, events described in my 28th April release, A SCOUNDREL BY MOONLIGHT. Cam and Pen have known each other all their lives and have taken a rocky path to happiness. Because Pen is in the late stages of pregnancy, she’s remained behind at the Rothermere family seat in Derbyshire while Cam goes adventuring outside London. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into their married life!
From Camden Rothermere, His Grace, the Duke of Sedgemoor, Maidenhead, Berkshire, 28th November 1828
From Penelope Rothermere, Her Grace, the Duchess of Sedgemoor, Fentonwyck, Derbyshire, 30th November 1828
Check out Cam and Penelope's love story in What a Duke Dares.
What woman in her right mind would say no to marrying the dashing Duke of Sedgemoor? Miss Penelope Thorne, that's who. She's known Camden Rothermere since they were children-and she also knows she'd bring nothing but scandal to his name.
Cam can hardly believe Penelope turned down his proposal. But if she wants to run off to the Continent and set the rumor mill ablaze, he can't stop her. Then her brother's dying request sends him to bring home the one woman he thought he'd finally gotten over.
The only way they'll both get back to London without their reputations in tatters is to pretend they're married during the journey. That means kissing like they mean it and even sharing a bed-until it becomes hard to tell where the game ends and true desire begins . . .

Thanks, Gamistress! I always enjoy this Valentine's Day game on Dani's blog.
Thanks so much, Ki. I sat down to write something mushy from Pen but she made me do the joshing post instead!
Thanks, Jo's Daughter! This is always such a fun blog to write every year.
Thanks, May. So glad you loved the book!
Thanks, BD. Isn't that cover just luscious?
Awww, thanks, Sherelle. They were a fun pair to match up.
Di, you might just find out what happens when Pen has the baby if you pick up A SCOUNDREL BY MOONLIGHT. Thanks for swinging by.
Thanks so much, Sandra.
Thanks for swinging by, MK.
Ha, Annette, your answer made me laugh! Yes, Pen, is definitely suffering from hormone overload, isn't she? LOL! Thanks for saying you enjoyed them.
Thanks so much, Erin. Glad they gave you a laugh. My intention was to write two very romantic letters but Pen does love to tease Cam!
Dee, what a lovely comment. Thanks so much. I love those Regency sayings like watering pot. They're so vivid.
Thanks so much, Cathy!
Actually, Sharlene, that's a pretty good description of it. I loved writing the dialogue between these two. Thanks for swinging by.
Thanks for checking them out, Sue.
LoL Pen is still her usual self which we adore. And it's even more sweet that Cam loves it! <3
Oooh, this "pretend" game that Cam and Penelope are playing at seems destined to become very real indeed. But I love the humorous romp they've gotten themselves into, which is destined to bring me hours of delicious entertainment! I can't believe I don't have this book of Anna's...maybe it's because it was before Christmas month...which always beggars me. :-) In any event, I'll throw my name into the hat for one of Anna's books...always! Thanks for the post. jdh2690@gmail.com
My comment is - I WANNA WIN IT! :D I adore your stuff!! hehehe

Janice, I hope you enjoy Duke when you lay your hands on him....uh, it! :-) Good luck! So glad you enjoyed the blog!
Terry, blatant flattery ALWAYS works! Thanks for playing and good luck!
Thanks so much, Lori. Some characters really take up residence in a writer's heart - and these two definitely did.
This is one of my favorite events. I love this series and Camden was one of my favorites. I enjoyed the letter between Cam and Pen.

Oh, Anna, that was wonderful! I love how real these two are with each other in their letters and I'm looking forward to reading their book. :-)

Thanks so much, Sheryl. I love this event too - and Dani's Christmas scene. I got the idea for my novella HER CHRISTMAS EARL from my piece on the Ramblings Christmas even in 2012.
Thanks so much, Marcy. I must say I got a laugh out of writing Pen's pregnancy-induced diatribe! I thought I'd write romance but she had something completely different to say when the time came.
Oh, what amazing letters. And that cover is to-die-for! Love love love it. :)

Thanks so much, Brooke! Yeah, I just love that cover too. It's really luscious!
Thanks so much for swinging by, Glenda! So glad you like the letters. And thanks for picking up the book - delighted you loved it!
Thanks, Molly. Did you see I'm giving away three on the website this month? http://annacampbell.info/contest.html
Sandy, so glad you like the letters! It was actually quite hard not to give away too much of the plot! Hope you enjoy SCOUNDREL BY MOONLIGHT!
Thanks, Mary! They were fun to write.
Barb, so glad you liked Penelope's letter. It was meant to be mushy but that's what came out! Love that someone above said that she 'sounds pregnant'!
Ki, what a lovely way to put it. My aim when I put them together was to take two reasonably functioning people (neither's tortured although they have their baggage) and make them better when they were together than when they were apart. I think they each learned from the other as they fell in love.
:)
I'll bet they are
Nice letters

So much to say in such small space! I wonder why we don't write letter any more? ;)
annaoj (dot) mortes (at) gmail (dot) com
Thanks, Janie! It was fun for me to revisit them too.
Thanks so much, Natasha! I enjoyed writing them. Good luck!
Thanks, Anna. I agree - letters mean so much more than emails, much as I love emails. But nobody writes them anymore. Got a couple at Christmas time and they're so treasured.
Hello, Anna! I look forward to reading your novel, loving the letters!

What a shame that people do not write letters like these any more. Just 45 years ago it was still done.It takes thought, sentiment, and care to express yourself so. I treasure the letters my husband and I exchanged so many years ago. Though no so ardent as those above, they are still a reminder and example of how we felt about each other and our plans for the future. In a way I am glad we were half a world apart and had no other way to communicate but through letters.

Pat, you're so right. When I was clearing out the house, I came across a lot of letters I'd written my parents over the years, including the ones I sent when I lived in England for two years. Such treasures. Nobody treasures emails the same way.
Thanks so much, Juanita!
Thanks so much, Molly! Not long now till the new one A SCOUNDREL BY MOONLIGHT!
Thanks to Dani for hosting me and to everyone who swung by. What a fun Valentine's Day game!
