Sealed With a Kiss: Sophie Barnes and Giveaway

Born in Denmark, Sophie has spent her youth traveling with her parents to wonderful places all around the world. She’s lived in five different countries, on three different continents, and speaks Danish, English, French, Spanish and Romanian.

She has studied design in Paris and New York and has a bachelor’s degree from Parson’s School of design, but most impressive of all – she’s been married to the same man three times, in three different countries and in three different dresses.

While living in Africa, Sophie turned to her lifelong passion – writing.

When she’s not busy, dreaming up her next romance novel, Sophie enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, cooking, gardening, watching romantic comedies and, of course, reading. She currently lives on the East Coast.

Written by Michael Ashford, Earl of Trenton, to his wife roughly six months after their wedding.

Knowing how you must be fretting over my absence, I wish to reassure you that all is well and that my stay in Scotland is going smoothly. It is a beautiful country, though I know I would have enjoyed it more had you been here to experience it with me. I miss you, my love - my willful, adventurous hoyden - and am counting the days until my return.

Hopefully you're not finding your confinement too tedious. I know you probably long for a duel or a horseback race across the open countryside. Remember how you fought off French soldiers at Waterloo? By God you were magnificent! Nevertheless, I pray that you will refrain from such things until after our child is born. At the risk of you cursing me to high heaven, may I suggest watercolors or needlework in the meantime?

I hope you know that I am jesting, for I realize that you will refrain from doing anything reckless as long as you are expecting - never have I met anyone as protective as you when it comes to those who are dearest to you. How fortunate I am to be included in that regard, for you are without a doubt the most incredible woman I have ever known, and I am lucky indeed to have captured your heart.

Check out Alexandra and Michael's love story in Lady Alexandra's Excellent Adventrue

It’s going to be a wild ride . . .

Lady Alexandra Summersby is not your average society miss. Not only is she more likely to climb a tree than she is to wear a dress, but she has also sworn off marriage. Alex loves taking chances, which is how she finds herself embroiled in a secret mission as she races across the country with the Earl of Trenton. But Alexandra is about to discover that the real danger lies not in duels, but in her completely unexpected reaction to Lord Trenton’s company.

Michael Ashford, Earl of Trenton, is a man of duty. Honorable, charming, and a hit with the ladies, he’s never had trouble staying focused—until now. Lady Alexandra is like no other woman he’s ever met, and suddenly the prospect of marriage seems far more appealing. Now, to convince Alexandra that a life together could be an adventure like no other . . .

Lucy Blackwell is desperate, reckless, and maybe a little bit crazy. But Lord William Summersby is the final piece of her grand plan, and she'll do what it takes to make this marriage of convenience work—as long as it's convenient for her. She just never counted on falling in love . . .

Hey Sophie~ How fun to post a letter from Michael to Alex.

Michael sounds like a man who knows his wife, Alex, and I'm betting that she does not ever bore him.

You have had such wonderful experiences in your life plus and the opportunity to live in interesting countries and to also know the languages. That takes great talent and I'm quite envious.

Congratulations on your successes and I'm looking forward to reading your Summersby Series!

How wonderful that you got to travel to all those fascinating places. Which country was your favorite? Which language was the hardest to learn? The easiest?

    Sophie Barnes said...

Hi, Julianne, thanks for posting! I think my favorite was probably Spain - I had a great childhood there, though I hear a lot has changed since I left 17 yrs ago, but we lived in the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean so it was gorgeous! Language wise, French has always given me a hard time because I learned it in school, conjugating verbs for hours on end - it got easier after living in Paris. The easiest was probably English - I was dropped in an English school at age 4 and just had to figure it out =)

Both letters was great. I always love heroines who do not allow society to say they can not do something, the "perfect lady" to me would be boring, I like those that step outside that box.
Btw, I am so envious of you growing up in so many different places. You must have seen so much and learned so many great things.

Hi Sophie! Where do you find your inspiration?

Alex sounds like a feisty heroine; fighting French soldiers!

Hope you'll travel to my part of the world (Asia) some time Sophie.

    Sophie Barnes said...

Lots of people have asked me that and I confess that I'm not always sure, but for Lady Alexandra, it was a mixture btwn The Three Musketeers, The Scarlet Pimpernel and A Commedy of Errors =)

    Sophie Barnes said...

Right now I'm working on the second book in the Kingsborough Ball series. I'm getting the first book (The Trouble With Being A Duke) back soon for copy-edits - it goes on sale August 27th. And then I have a third book due in October, so things are pretty busy =)
I'd like to write a story for the children of the series. I think that would be fun, but that's in the distant future since I first have my current series to finish and after that I was actually thinking of writing about Michael Ashford's sisters.

    Joanne said...

This series sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it. I love a story with a feisty heroine. Alex seems to be that. Thanks for sharing those lovely letters.

Wow, that is a lot of work for you in one year. But I can't wait for these books to go on sale~ The Ashford sisters! Yes, do that do that! Why does it have to be so long before I can read them. >.<
You have a big year ahead for you~ Good luck. :)

    Sophie Barnes said...

    Thanks, Kipha!
As for why it's taking so long...everything will become clear at the end of this month =)
