My Favorite Things Event with Barbie Bohrman

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Barbie Bohrman dreamed of becoming an author. Long after she had given up, a book club’s prologue contest enticed her to give it one more go. What emerged were the beginnings of her debut novel, Promise Me. Now she’s living her dream and writing stories that entice readers to escape and break away from reality. When she’s not writing, you can find her trying to get through the books on her Kindle (more than a thousand at last count) or watching Sherlock or Seinfeld. She currently resides in New Jersey with her husband, two children, and two dogs.

I feel like Oprah with her annual favorite things list trying to come up with just 5 things that qualify!! Actually, that’s not even the real problem. The REAL problem is figuring out which topic to cover out of the many things/people/places/foods/everything that are MY favorite things.

And now, I’m singing the song from The Sound of Music in my head!

Okay, so I think I’m going to go a little different here. I’m a bit of a pop-culture junkie. Always have been obsessed with it. So much so, that not only did I audition for the World Series of Pop Culture years ago, but I tried really, really hard to parlay my love of random pop-culture into a career. It didn’t work out, LOL!

Anyway, I’m going to go with “Barbie’s 5 Favorite Pop-Culture Entertainment Random Things.”

1. Lost
My favorite television show. It made me work every single week to track down answers to questions that kept popping up. And once I started down the path of Lost, it was a gloriously strange and trippy rabbit-hole. From fictional airline websites that had secret seat assignments, to the Easter eggs on the DVD’s for each season as they released. I ate, slept, and breathed nothing but Lost while it was on the air. Years later, I am literally lost without it. #WeHaveToGoBack

2. Twin Peaks
My second favorite television show. And were it not for THIS show, there would be no Lost, or X-Files, or anything that isn’t “out-of-the-box” programming. It was ahead of its time, and still is. From the creepy score, to the creepy town of Twin Peaks itself, to the creepy and disturbing storyline that was: “Who Killed Laura Palmer.” All of it was perfection. And I’ll add that people complain about a favorite show of theirs going on hiatus for the summer or winter months, or even a year…they have no idea how good they got it. Because I have been waiting 27 YEARS for this show to finally return next month on Showtime.

3. V for Vendetta
Ever since the graphic novel by Alan Moore was released and the consequent film adaptation, I have fallen more and more in love with the character V. At face value it seems as if our tragic hero is a menace, perhaps even a terrorist. But in reality, he is a romantic; constantly trying to right the wrongs that were created by a hate-spewing and fear-mongering government. At its core, the message of V is simple, at least to me: any idea, even a small one, can inspire change. “Remember, remember, the 5th of November.”

4. Archie
I have been buying Archie comic books since I was a little girl. Every Sunday morning, my dad would take me with him to buy the Sunday paper. And every Sunday morning, the store would have been restocked with the new Archie comic books. I would go home and devour them. Over and over. I don’t buy them as much anymore. Instead, I buy the leather-bound collections of the comics nowadays. But the obsession remains. I looooove the characters so much…and so happy that the new TV show has resurrected interest for the gang too.

5. The 80’s
From the music channel that launched a revolution (back when they played actual GOOD music), to the films (especially the John Hughes ones), to the cheesy television shows (remember Battle of the Network Stars?), to the clothes, to the EVERYTHING! I am a child of the 80’s and still love it! It might be where my love of all things pop-culture began too, so it’s extra “totally awesome!”

Veronica Webber is single again after being in a loveless marriage way past its expiration date. For the first time in a very long time, she feels free and after being burned so badly by love in the past, any thought of romance is the last thing on her mind.

In walks a man from her past, Trevor Allen, a tall, dark, and handsome womanizer who is usually all about the bottom line. For Trevor that bottom line has always been made up of the countless notches on his bedpost. But when he sees Veronica after so many years, he can’t help but be drawn to her and know her again… even if that means being friend-zoned from the start.

As this unlikely pair spends more and more time together, they quickly realize that there might be something between them that goes past "just friends." But there’s just one tiny detail that makes this situation slightly more complicated… Trevor was Veronica’s ex-husband’s best man at their wedding nine years ago.

So when past mistakes and indiscretions come back to haunt them, will their happily ever after end before it even gets started?

Or will the best man win this time.
