ARC Review: Flawed by Tracy Wolff

This book claims to be the fourth in the “Ethan Frost” series but trust me you don’t need to read any of the other books in the series to read this one. I read like two of the Ethan Frost books and I’m positive you don’t need to read those first. In even better news, if you had gotten really sick of the Ethan Frost books like I was, this book has a totally new storyline to offer so you can judge it on its own merit.

This is the story of Chloe and Miles. Chloe has hated Miles because he is the brother of her best friend and Chloe doesn’t know all the details of that relationship. Chloe made some assumptions about Miles that just weren’t true. Miles’ reaction was pretty predictable. If you treat a guy like you hate him, he’s likely to hate you back. In addition, Chloe is a recovering party girl who was very sexually free. Chloe always thought she was just partying but in this book she has to face some hard truths about herself and the choices she made.

Chloe and Miles are thrown together when Chloe’s past come’s back to hunt her and she has to flee to her best friend’s house where Miles is also staying. And that’s where the fun starts. Let me just first say that Chloe got a raw deal in every sense of the expression. If you don’t feel sorry for her then you just don’t feel at all. The way Chloe’s father treated her was particularly egregious. I did like that the author made the connection between the way Chloe’s father treated her and the treatment she expected from men. As for Miles, he is trying to make up for the past when he felt like he didn’t do enough to protect his sister. So Chloe is in need of some protecting and Miles is just the guy to give it to her.

There is no small amount of angst in this book. The couple is locked in a war of Chloe feeling the need to figure things out for herself and Miles wanting to give her everything she never got from a man. And in between all that, the two can’t decide if they want to screw each other or slap each other. I liked Chloe and Miles together and I enjoyed their story. The chemistry is there with this couple from the beginning and the way Miles tries to fix Chloe’s effed up life is everything you could want in a man. 

I was mildly annoyed by Chloe sometimes. Her need to do it on her own when she didn’t have a pot to piss in just really got under my skin. Heroines who won’t accept help when they clearly need it is one of my personal pet peeves. All that aside, this is a pretty good contemporary romance with some twists and turns and a couple you will be rooting for.

ARC Review: Egomaniac by Vi Keeland

I absolutely love Vi Keeland's books! She is a fantastic writer and her stories always draw me right in. For me Vi is an auto-buy, and her newest book Egomaniac did not disappoint! I enjoyed this one from start to finish, and I think readers are going to love this one! 

Emerie Rose gets the shock of her life when she realizes that the intruder in her brand new Park Avenue office is actually the rightful occupant. While he was on vacation Drew Jagger's office was leased to Emerie by a scammer who took off with her life savings. But Drew offers to let her answer his phones while his secretary is out in exchange for allowing her to stay until she finds a new space. They quickly realize that there is more between them than they ever could have expected, but can a divorce attorney and psychologist who helps others save their marriages possibly have a chance at a future together? 

I really liked these two. They were great together and despite their differences were exactly what the other needed. Emerie was a believer in love, committed to helping her patients put their relationships back together and make things work. She was a bit naive at first and I worried that I would have problems liking her, but that quickly changed. Drew was sexy and cynical, and he had every right to be after what he had seen and been through. I couldn't blame him for being scared and wanting nothing to do with marriage, yet I never stopped hoping that he would see that Emerie was different. These two were super hot together, and I loved everything about their growing connection. 

Overall this was a great story, and I liked it a lot. There was one thing that kept this one from being five stars for me, and that was Emerie and her indecisiveness when it came to a situation that I don't want to spoil for readers. I felt like at times she was too hung up on the past and was a bit blind to what was happening, though Drew had no problem telling her what was actually going on. I didn't understand the random thoughts that she would have pertaining to the situation, and I found that it just didn't jive with what was happening with Drew. It just didn't work for me when so much of the time it really seemed like she had moved forward with her life, and then there was a comment or thought out of nowhere that seemed to contradict that. I know that is all a little vague, but I don't want to give anything away for those that haven't read this one yet. Even with that criticism though, I still really enjoyed Drew and Emerie's story, and this one had so many great moments that I didn't want to put it down. It was sweet, sexy, funny and emotional, and I definitely recommend it for fans of contemporary romance. Vi Keeland is an author that I always look forward to, and I am already anxious to see what she has in store for readers next!

ARC Review: Blurry by Carina Adams

I will be honest and say that I didn't know how I was going to feel about this book before I started it, and while I was excited I was also a bit scared. If you haven't read Forever Red by Carina Adams, you may want to exit now as there will be some spoilers from that book. Having read and loved Forever Red and Out of the Blue (the previous books released in the Bama Boys series by Carina Adams), I was a huge Nate fan. So when I found out that Carina had written a story about Lia with someone else I just wasn't sure if I could connect or even like the story. Carina is such a talented writer though that I never should have worried about it. Blurry is the story of Lia and Craig, before Lia met Nate. 

Cecelia "Lia" Merrill was used to being on her own, lost and lonely she was determined to graduate and leave her tiny town behind her for good. But then she met coach Craig Knightly and everything changed. Craig almost had everything that he had ever dreamed of, but then Lia changed everything that he thought he knew. Soon an unexpected and forbidden friendship between them led to more, and both Lia and Craig knew that their lives would be forever changed in a situation where neither of them could come out a winner. 

Like I said, I was worried about being able to connect here, even though I had loved Lia before. I ended up really liking Craig though as well, and surprisingly I found myself liking these two together. Did I think that they belonged together in the long run? No I didn't, because I knew better and she always belonged with Nate. But that didn't stop me from rooting for these two here or enjoying their time together. For those that haven't read Forever Red, this one will probably be a completely different experience than for those that have read FR. I loved the fact that we got to know Lia better here though and see a bit more into her past than just some details we had been given previously. These two had a great connection and strong chemistry, and they needed each other at the time that they were together. Yet they also both were at a place where they couldn't be together long term, and I think that their time together made them into the people that they needed to be later on. 

I will say that I actually ended up feeling sorry for Craig here, and it broke my heart a bit to see him here knowing what was ahead for him. These two had genuine feelings for one another, yet Craig definitely was the one that I knew would wind up hurting the most. I felt for him even though he had messed things up with Lia to begin with, and I really just wanted him to be happy. It was easy to see how he as well as Mike and Nate could fall for Lia, and I was glad to get more of all these characters. This was an emotional read, and I really struggled knowing how everything would play out in the long run. But I am really glad that Carina Adams wrote this story and gave us more insight into these characters that I already knew and loved. I hope that Craig might one day get his own HEA as I think he truly deserves one. It was great to read about his HFN with Lia here though, and I think fans of this series will really enjoy getting more in this world.
