I Need YOUR Help...and Giveaway

Wanna help me out?

With holiday season just a few months away, here at RFTC we are staring to get things ready for our annual Xmas event and we thought we would do a few things differently this year. As you know from the past years' celebration each day in December we have a different author come by and write a scene based off of a special theme that they have been assigned. Well this year I need some help coming up with some scene ideas and I want YOU to help. That's right. This year I would love to have you all come up with some ideas. Nothing is too wacky or crazy. Just remember that this is a historical event so the ideas would have to be tailored towards historical. We can't have someone locked in a plane on Christmas Eve if the scene is taking place sometime during the 1800's. Lol.

Now here is the fun part..3 random people that comment with an idea will win a book from my stash. If your scene is one of the ones chosen for the event I will send you a special surprise. It could be a book, swag or even a gift card. Just know that you will definitely be rewarded for helping out.

Please don't forget to leave your email address with your comment that way I can let you know if you are chosen. =)

Thanks for your help!

  2. Each author could choose one of their favorite characters or couple and write a updated Christmas story of their family or life. If could be the following Christmas after their story took place. I love epilogues and this would be a great way for us readers to catch up with some of the favorite characters.

  3. You have the authors write what holiday traditions they would want to do if they happen to time travel to 1800s? Basically, how they would celebrate an 1800 Christmas.

  4. Scenario 1: The heroine is at a house party and out for a walk when a light snow turns into a blizzard. The hero is a former suitor who finds her, but the conditions are too bad to safely reach the manor house.

Scenario 2: The author, using her characters or new ones, can write her take on the Gift of the Magi story.

Scenario 3: A husband and wife have been married for years without children and have come to accept it. They are given a Christmas miracle of a child left on their doorstep or the wife expecting a baby.

  5. I've always liked seeing characters going to a Christmas Ball - that would be fun, but maybe a little overdone.

Maybe mistletoe that disappears and reappears in strategic locations - no one knows who keeps moving it, only to discover it's a Scrooge-like character who's been doing it all along.

  6. Maybe ask the author about their characters' first mistletoe kiss?

Or the perfect Christmas gift for their characters?

  7. How about a story about how families found Christmas tree's when they lived out on the Great Plains and there weren't many tree's around. What did they use instead?

    Or..

A pirate sea captain saves a girl who's fallen overboard from another boat right before Christmas and she livens the ship up by helping him celebrate Christmas because he's never done it before.

    or...

A PNR Historical where a woman travels to Scotland in our time and sees a picture of a great Scottish Laird and when she runs her hands over the picture she is transported back to his time right before christmas.

  11. Have each scene include an element of The Twelve Days of Christmas - Partridge in a Pear tree, Turtle Doves, Leaping Lords, Golden Rings etc.

  12. What about a story about the birth of Christmas Cards. I believe the first one was sent in 1843 but someone must have had the idea before that.

  13. What about a sentence for them to go on:
Why is there a cat in the cupboard?
Why is there a Yule log in my study?

  15. How about...a daring winter adventure on the high seas, the captain, his brash wife along with their mighty crew stumbles across an isolated island, and they find an injured, unconscious female on the island. The crew doesn't like the feeling on the island, but the first mate is attracted to her? Then a romance develops? :) haha this is quite a fun giveaway! Thanks! :) Can't wait for the actual event!

  16. What about developing a scene from a Christmas song or carol. Regular reader to your site, but fairly recent, so I hope I'm not repeating anything.

What about a scene concerning an updated theme feast deriving from Dicken's Christmas Carol scene of Christmas Present? A modern day take on a Scrooge character and their vision of a feast.
For example, it could be a feast set in the Caribbean with that locale's dishes with mouth-watering descriptions of course.

  17. Oops, I just re-read the post and noticed that you wanted the ideas to be more historical? Can't be present day? Amend my idea about the Scrooge character (male or female) that it be set in a different era or any country (ancient Greece, 19th Century Vienna, etc.) for the feast etc.

  18. Here are a few more ideas:

    (1) Two families have been feuding for years, but during a Christmas Eve blizzard, there's a knock on the door. The eldest son from the other family needs refuge from the storm and falls in love with his host's daughter.

    (2) A duke is dreading the holidays as they remind him of his broken engagement. He's out for a ride and notices the neighboring property has been rented out. When he knocks at the door, his former love answers.

    (3) A British spy has had past dealings with a Frenchwoman working as a counteragent. They attend the same house party over the holidays and discover the true meaning of Christmas.

  19. Two things came to mind: The Twelve Days of Christmas Song (which was already mentioned by Di) and The Gift of the Magi (which was already mentioned by Kim) --

Event title would be: My True Love Gave to Me -- and the scene would be how the hero and heroine come up with their gift to each other.

Looking forward to your Christmas event!
