Interview with Author of Brooklyn Ann and Giveaway

A lover of witty Regencies and dark paranormal romance, Brooklyn Ann combines the two in her new vampire series. The former mechanic turned author lives with her family in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
I'm a former mechanic turned romance author who loves heavy metal music, horror movies, and restoring cars.

Did you always want to be a writer?
Actually, no. First I wanted to be a paleontologist, then I wanted to be a rock star, then I worked as a professional artist for awhile before I decided to become a mechanic. Then, after I messed up my shoulders I started writing books. So it wore a lot of hats before getting here. :)

What kind of writer are you? Pantser or Plotter?
I'm a little bit of both. Sometimes a scene pops in my head and I'll start writing until I can see where it's going. Other times I'll write out a rough outline, that I usually end up deviating from. Maybe I just need rules to break. :)

Where do your ideas come from?
All sorts of places. A song, a scene from a movie, a painting, a dream. I never know when or where inspiration is going to strike. Lots of ideas crop up when I'm doing housework or tuning up a car. But it is pretty cool to be doing an oil change and all of sudden see a vivid picture of a story in my head. I live for those moments.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
When Vincent becomes guardian to Lydia, he vows to get her off his hands. But Lydia is determined to win the vampire's heart…for eternity.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
Naturally, I adore regency romances. They've always been my favorite guilty pleasure, though I'll go for any historical in a heartbeat. I also LOVE Stephen King. He is my hero. And of course I go for kick-ass Urban Fantasy in a heartbeat.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
Stephen King's IT. I've read it 12 times now. The characters in that one are like old friends.... well, except for the creepy clown, of course.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
Definitely when the hero and heroine are unhappy, whether with each other, or external circumstances, I hate seeing them suffer, but if there's no conflict, there's no story, so I must press on so they can reach their HEA.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Stephen King, Ashlyn Chase, and George R.R. Martin.

Stephen King, because he's my all time favorite and I have SO much to ask him about his books as well as get some horror movie recommendations, Ashlyn Chase because I only got to hang out with her for a teeny bit and she was a blast and I want to see her more. Plus, I think she and KING would get along with all their supernatural shenanigans in New England. George R.R. Martin is invited solely so King, Chase, and I can lecture him about making deadlines and tips on setting and meeting writing goals so maybe he'll get it together and finish his #%$#^% series!!!

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Oh my... I am currently working on 3 books. My contract is up, so I don't have a set thing to work on. So I've been working on the third book in my urban fantasy series, a 2nd heavy metal romance while I shop the first one, and, of course, a 4th regency paranormal.

I'm also currently working on edits for book 3, BITE AT FIRST SIGHT. :)

Since I liked question #9 so much, I'll ask a version of that one. Which author would YOU like to have dinner with?

A random winner will receive a copy of ONE BITE PER NIGHT!

He wanted her off his hands...

Vincent Tremayne, the reclusive “Devil Earl,” has been manipulated into taking rambunctious Lydia Price as his ward. As Lord Vampire of Cornwall, Vincent has better things to do than bring out an unruly debutante.

Now he’ll do anything to hold on forever

American-born Lydia Price doesn’t care for the stuffy strictures of the ton, and is unimpressed with her foppish suitors. She dreams of studying with the talented but scandalous British portrait painter, Sir Thomas Lawrence. But just when it seems her dreams will come true, Lydia is plunged into Vincent’s dark world and finds herself caught between the life she’s known and a future she never could have imagined.

  1. OMG! That's a tough question! I have soooo many fav authors and would be thrilled to go eat with any of them! I think I would pick Kathleen Woodiwiss as she's the one who addicted me to romantic novels many years ago. I plan to go to the Coastal Magic Convention in Daytona in early Feb and will hopefully get to meet and maybe even sit down with some of my fav paranormal authors.

  4. I'd like to have dinner with YOU, Brooklyn! :-) Your author blurb and how you came to writing fascinate me. We have a daughter who didn't choose to be a mechanic, but ended up being one. She loves what she does. Plus, I've always loved Regencies and Vampire stories (started with Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake and then Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse and then Christine Feehan's Dark series), so the fact that you write about both has drawn me in to your writing. So glad to have "met" you on this blog! jdh2690@gmail.com
