Guest Post with Author Cindy Miles and Giveaway

Meet Cindy Miles author of Stupid Love.

I grew up on the salt marshes and back rivers of Savannah, Georgia. Moody, mossy, with its ancient cobblestones and Georgian and Gothic architecture, the city has inspired me to write 11 novels, 1 anthology, 3 short stories and 1 Young Adult novel. Most recently I've partnered with Harlequin Books to write a 3-book contemporary romance series under the Superromance imprint set to release in 2015. Currently, my first New Adult Romance will release in May 2014. Also writing as best-selling author, Elle Jasper I have written a 5-book Urban Fantasy Vampire series set in some of Savannah's shadier haunts. I love traveling, photography, baking, yoga, and rock-n-roll.

A Personal Touch

I think it’s inevitable that (most) authors inject a little of themselves/someone they know into one or more of their characters. Favorable traits and characteristics come alive in a fictional character when they come from the heart, and makes them much more three-dimensional in the story. At least, that’s what I believe. And I definitely throw a little “me” into my heroines. It helps me connect to them on a level that enables me to write their story, for pages at a time, until it is completely filleted for the reader. In Stupid Love, connecting with the wild-child heroine, Memory Thibodeaux, was no different. While I’m not actively a wild-child (haha!) like Memory, I might be in my head! You know—a deep-seeded desire to ride top-speed on a motorcycle around a curving, crazy-winding two-lane hugging the coast (okay, THAT I might do!), or zip-lining over a gorge (hmmm, maybe, but hesitant. Heights! Eesh!), or maybe even bungee jumping from a steel bridge (erm, no thanks!). Or maybe having the utter and complete confidence to approach a guy with all the come-thee-hither one could muster and in absolutely NO WAY take no for answer. Those are qualities I crafted into my sassy, live-larger-than-life heroine Memory AFTER I’d connected with her via sharing some similar loves/qualities. For instance, Memory’s favorite movie is The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I am a TOTAL movie freak and love everything from old black and white classics to JAWS, The Goonies, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Young Guns, and Mission: Impossible. TOO many to single out one favorite. But giving Memory that love of old, seemingly-forgotten black and white films—especially when she has such a bad-girl persona—made her REAL. It gave her a soft edge. Made her, in my mind, likable. Without throwing out spoilers here, Memory fights a battle she’s fought once before and, miraculously, won. This time, she fights it privately and alone, hiding it from others in order not to be treated any differently. She loves life. She loves classic rock. Adores Freddy Mercury and Queen (me too!). And thrives off of the tunes of Aerosmith (so do I!!). She is loyal to a fault and has a total soft spot for old vets, which I pulled out of my own persona as well. It’s one quality that makes super-sexy yet serious hero, Jace Beaumont, fall for her. Jace watches her take the arm of a aged Texas Ranger and make him think HE is helping HER across a busy parking lot to a baseball field. Small tidbits like that, to me, make a character come alive. Make them seem real, as if you’ll chance meet them on the street one day, or at a concert, or a movie in the park. =) So when you read your next novel, (I hope it’s Stupid Love, due out Sept 10!) know that you’re probably reading a little tiny piece of the author as you go.

Bestselling new adult author Cindy Miles is set to capture the hearts of STUPID GIRL fans again with the grand finale of the Stupid in Love series, featuring Memory and Jace.

MEMORY

Casualties.

That’s how I refer to the guys who’ve had the bad fortune to fall for me. They only see long legs that they wish were wrapped around them, a cat-like smile, and the reckless abandon to take on any wild dare. It’s all a game to me. Show me a bridge, and I’ll leap over the side. Give me a car, and I’ll race it. Give me a heart, and I’ll break it. I always win. I even showed Death who was boss a long time ago.

Or so I thought.

Now, time is running out, and I’m losing fast…and big. I met someone. Jace Beaumont. He’s smart, and good, and I dream about spending days exploring the summit of his perfect lips. But, I’m a grenade. I know I should leave him be. I can’t.

JACE

Study, class, work, repeat. That’s all I have time for. At twenty-five years old, I have a bit more mileage on me than the average college freshman. But, that’s what happens when you spend your youth drinking, partying, and bagging girls like it’s a full-time job. Now, I have goals. There’s just one kink in my plans. Her name is Memory. She’s every guy’s dream girl. She’s intoxicating. She’s trouble. I want to stay away. I can’t.

  1. Just as it is important for writers to connect to characters, it is just as important for readers too.
