My First Love Event with Nina Croft

Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.

Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.

Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.

Hi everyone!

First of all, a huge thank you to Danielle for inviting me here today and happy eighth birthday to the blog!

I’m Nina Croft and I write all sorts of romance, including contemporary, suspense, paranormal… But my all-time favorite is science fiction. That’s probably because, at a very impressionable age, I fell in love with a space pirate and never really recovered.

I think I was around twelve at the time.

Growing up, I was a bit of a tomboy, and before that I never really thought about love (this was before I discovered the wonders of romance between the covers of Sweet Savage Love…but that was a little later.) Then one day, I went to the cinema to watch Star Wars and came face to face with the man who was to become the love of my life. Han Solo.

I mean—what’s not to love? A gorgeous, sexy, bad boy with his own spaceship. I was totally smitten.

The only trouble is, falling in love with a bad boy space pirate can lead to unreasonable expectations. I spent a lot of time day-dreaming about Han-look-a-likes who would whisk me off in their spaceship and we’d head into the unknown to explore new galaxies and save the world from the evil…

You get the picture. I spent more time in fantasy land than real life. And then I became a writer and that was okay. Because one of the wonderful things about being a writer is you get to live vicariously through your characters. And I got to make up my very own space pirate. Ricardo Sanchez, pilot of the Blood Hunter, and hero of BREAK OUT, book 1 in my Dark Desires series.

My feelings for Han Solo have endured. Han is a hard act to follow. Others have come close (Captain Mal. My horse Fin. And of course—just in case he’s reading this over my shoulder—my husband!) but your first love always stays in your heart.

So was your first love real or fictional? Let me know

The year is 3048, Earth is no longer habitable, and man has fled to the stars where they've discovered the secret of immortality--Meridian. Unfortunately, the radioactive mineral is exorbitantly expensive and only available to a select few. A new class comprised of the super-rich and immortal soon evolves. The Collective, as they're called, rule the universe.

Two-thousand-year-old Ricardo Sanchez, vampire and rogue pilot of the space cruiser, El Cazador, can't resist two things: gorgeous women and impossible jobs. When beautiful Skylar Rossaria approaches him to break a prisoner out of the Collective's maximum security prison on Trakis One, Rico jumps at the chance. Being hunted by the Collective has never been so dangerous-or so fun!
