Guest Post with Author Marie Treanor and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to RFTC, author Marie Treanor  Marie is celebrating the recent release of her book, Blood Descent and has stopped by to chat. Please give Marie a warm welcome.

Award winning author Marie Treanor lives in Scotland with her eccentric husband and three much-too-smart children. Having grown bored with city life, she resides these days in a picturesque village by the sea where she is lucky enough to enjoy herself avoiding housework and writing sensual stories of paranormal romance and fantasy.

Marie has published nearly forty ebooks with small presses, (Samhain Publishing, Ellora's Cave, Changeling Press and The Wild Rose Press), including a former Kindle bestseller, Killing Joe. Blood on Silk: an Awakened by Blood novel, was her New York debut with NAL. She is now self-publishing three new paranormal series.

Places to find Marie:

My Mother and Maggie

Maggie, if you don’t know, is my Glaswegian vampire heroine of BLOOD DESCENT, third of the Blood Hunter series.

So what in the world does she have to do with my mother???

A surprising amount really! To begin with, both were born and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland, around the same time. Maggie died at the age of twenty in a train that was bombed during the second world war. Not, I hasten to add that my mother suffered such a terrible fate, but I did give Maggie some of her background.

Like Maggie, my mother was good at science at school and had wanted to be a doctor; but with the outbreak of war, she chose instead to do her bit for her country, left school at sixteen and did a short course in explosives testing at Cambridge. She then did this for a living for the rest of the war at a factory based just outside Glasgow – the same place Maggie worked. And my mother did tell me once about the shift train to the factory being bombed one night – although, fortunately for us, not when my mother was on it.

Also like Maggie, my mother and her wartime friends used to take convalescing servicemen out for coffee and the odd trip to the pictures. This was what caused Maggie to take up smoking – so she could offer cigarettes to the soldiers without it appearing to be charity. I got that from my mother too and it had somewhat poignant results I won’t go into here.

So, Maggie has my mother’s compassion and a little of her background, but otherwise, her character is totally different!

My mother was a lady in the best sense of the word. Maggie is more of a bad girl with a heart: unapologetic, glamorous, earthy, incurably friendly and funny. Plus she loves human blood and sex, preferably with warm, handsome males. I imagine her a bit like a Scottish Marlene Dietrich: alluring, seductive, but smart-talking with a Glasgow accent. Unashamedly vampire, she still shows more humanity than her human love interest, the grimly obsessive vampire hunter Konrad. I have to admit I like Maggie, and I love her together with Konrad – hope you do too!

A child is born...into the final showdown of Vampire and Hunter

The face of a killer, the heart of a lost child… Konrad once led the legendary first team of Hungarian vampire hunters. Now, refusing to ally with the undead, he goes his own way, slaughtering vampires across the length and breadth of Europe.

The dying thoughts of one such vampire send Konrad to Britain in search of a dangerous instrument that might be just what he needs in his obsessive war with undead overlord Saloman – a war he’s determined to win at any cost. The only being who can lead him to the instrument and its current, evil possessor, is sexy, mysterious, young Glaswegian vampire Maggie, who holds herself aloof from her own kind.

Maggie sees much more than Konrad’s anger and cruelty. She makes it her mission to reach beyond the horrors of his past and find the man he should have been. Difficult, when he threatens her heart as well as everything she believes in; and when her whole being clamors for his body and his blood.

While journalists circle, about to break the news of vampire existence on mainstream television, Elizabeth Silk labors to give birth to Saloman’s daughter, and Maggie plays a dangerous game that risks everyone for her belief in one troubled man.

  1. I haven't read any of your books so you are a new author for me. Is this a good book to start with, or should I start with another book?

    1. Hi Mary!

Well, Blood Descent is the third in the series, so although you could read it as a standalone, you might be better to start with the first Blood Hunters book, BLOOD GUILT. On the other hand, if you're paranoid about reading things in order, maybe you should start with the prequel series, Awakened by Blood (BLOOD ON SILK, BLOOD SIN and BLOOD ETERNAL). The details of all my books are on my website www.MarieTreanor.com.

    1. Hi Marcy!

I agree blogs are a great place to discover new authors :). My story ideas can pop up from anything - a stranger's face, a few words of a newspaper headline, a scene from a film, an overheard conversation, a piece of history or an atmospheric building... Sometimes it seems to pop up in my head from nothing in particular :).

  8. What is it about vampires that draws you to them? Do any other folklore "creatures" draw your attention?

    1. Hi Lauren,

I think it's the inhumanity of vampire nature allied with human appearance and sheer strength. It makes you want to see what the merciless monster is like when he's not being quite such a merciless monster :).

And yes, lots of folkore creatures are really interesting - shapeshifters, werewolves, selkies - a huge source of inspiration!
