ARC Review: Snow's Surrender by Kristin Miller

First things first, this book is not a standalone. It's a continuation of the other books in the series. Don't start the series here. Start at book 1 (if you decide to read it) and go forward from there. Here's the second thing, this book is sold as a twist on Snow White and I'm pretty sure it isn't. There were some very insignificant references to the fairytale but overall, I just didn't see the connection. Third, based on the cover of the book and the way this book is marketed, I really thought it was going to be a threesome book. What I did not expect or want was a triangle, which is what this is. 

Last, for all you fans of the shifter paranormal stuff, there's almost none of that in this series. I'm not really in to that stuff so that is not a criticism from me. Part of the reason I read "paranormal" romance by Kristin Miller is because I'm not really a paranormal fan. She gives me just enough of the paranormal stuff to make me feel like I'm being adventurous without me having to really step outside of my comfort zone.

 I just felt the need to get all the preliminary stuff off the table, so let's move on now. I can't really say that now that I've read the whole series, I loved it. I didn't like the Hunter/Malcolm split. I also didn't love the heroine. She had moments of being really funny but a lot of the time, I found her to be indecisive and a bit immature. The erotic content is off the charts as is guaranteed in any Kristin Miller book. Each of these installments is short and not at all hard to read but there isn't really any character development and the plot is pretty thin.

ARC Review: Snow's Submission by Kristin Miller

If you've ever read one of these Kristin Miller serials you know that each book is more like a few chapters of one book. Each installment picks up right where the last one left off. These books cannot be read out of order so if you haven't read part 1, don't read this book or this review.  If you've read part 1 then you know that this series is kind of an interesting twist on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We met Snow, the wicked stepmother and the prince(s) in book 1. Book 2 focuses on 6 friends and Hunter (i.e., the 7 dwarfs).

Hunter is helping Snow in the art of making a dude want you like a fat kid wants cake so that she can hook up with Malcolm. Hunter's advice in book 2 is questionable but it makes for an entertaining storyline. Hunter tells Snow that if she can attract Malcolm's friends, Malcolm is more likely to notice her. Hunter's theory is that a man wants what other men want. The only research I've done on this involves snacks and if there is any cross application to the way men feel about women, ok, it might be true.

So enter the dwarfs. Only they are not dwarfs. There are six incredibly sexy grown men...errr werewolfs...or shifters...I don't know. but they look like super hot guys. Anyway, it is pretty entertaining watching Snow work it out on Malcolm's friends. She is, of course, so good in her role as seductress that Hunter gets even more drawn into his attraction to her. This of course leads to more of the very hot line blurring between Hunter and Snow. The crazy thing is that Malcolm is still out there and he is still technically Snow's dream guy who Hunter is "getting her ready" for. 

These books are quick and pretty predictable but also super sexy. This book is definitely better than the first installment. It is both funnier and more entertaining. If you like these hot Miller paranormal short stories, you'll love this.

ARC Review: Snows Seduction by Kristin Miller

Snow’s Seduction is the first of a trifecta of fairytale meets kink meets...I dont even know, a love triangle? I've read this author before so I knew what to expect and this was pretty much it. These books are super short (like 80 or 90 paged) and suuuuuper dirty. They are particularly well suited for self date night material (you know, for intimate time with yourself) but the story is kind of not the main point. 

Just to give you an idea of the "story" here's a summary: Snow is a werewolf shifter (I feel crazy just writing that), it's her birthday, she's set to become the alpha of her pack and she has...financial issues? I don't know guys. I mean who did know that werewolf shifters have such mundane issues like money problems. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny but I found it hilarious that the wicked stepmother was the stepmother who mismanaged money because she liked jewels. I was like, wait, what? LOL! 

Anywaaaay, Snow is having a party, a bunch of shifters and what have you are attending and Snow is finally getting her shot with one who has been her long time crush- Malcolm. On top of being the smoking hot star of her fantasies, Snow's stepmother also leads her to believe  that Malcolm may be the answer to their financial problems. The problem for snow is that she is awkward and not really prepared for The Art of Seduction. Lucky for her and us, the readers, Snow's best friend Hunter is there to help her bring out her inner sexy. Of course that leads to her realization that she has chemistry with Hunter and eventually to the very steamy steam that makes up most of the pages of this short novella.

You just really have to take these books for what they're worth. I am not here to tell you that this is some literary work of art, because it's not. But what you do get is something that is fun, entertaining and super sexy. If you need a little spice in your life and maybe even a couple of laughs this isn't a bad book to pass a couple of hours with.

ARC Review: Dangerously Red by Kristin Miller

Dangerously Red is 54 pages so I must return back to the rant I gave when I read Part I. These installments are really really short and I just don't know how I feel about that. In Part III, it's kind of ok because Part III is like an entire book by itself. In fact, the entire story up until this point is told in Part III, you wouldn't have even needed to read the other two books to understand exactly what happens. But, don't skip those or you will be missing out on some major hotness.

There isn't much I can tell you because the book was really short. Ivy finally makes her decision, Reaper reconciles his past and decides on his future and Lukas does crazy Alpha ish. Because all the craziness leading up to this point really does get resolved in this installment, it feels really rushed. Like the story doesn't really unfold. You basically learn everything about everything from one conversation. That would have been ok but there was no lead in to the information that gets revealed. It's kind of like, you are listening to someone talk about ice cream and all of a sudden they start telling you the secret to thermodynamic energy. You're like, whoa, whoa, where did that come from?

For all of those of you who are fans of the erotic content in this series, don't worry because there is still plenty of that. Fortunately, Ivy also seems more stable in her choices and not like she is just led around by her libido with no discretion. I don't know how I feel about this whole experience in this book. It all takes place in one night and in like 150 pages so far. Part of me feels like there needs to be more to the series, but another part of me feels like this whole trip needs to be over. If you were a fan of the series, you will probably like this. For me, it was just ok.

ARC Review: Dominating Red by Kristin Miller

Look, I probably have no business giving this book 4 stars but just let me explain. I'M NASTY. Hard stop. Hey, that's all I got. I like the steamy/freaky ish and this was definitely that. Can I be honest? I can barely locate a plot here because there are so few pages. But I still enjoyed the brief experience.

I know this book picks up where the last one left off. Something is afoot in the pack...is it a pack? Anyway, somebody has been stealing or doing something unsavory with the packs business and Reaper is still on the case but while he is out howling at the moon or whatever, Ivy is with Lukas. With Lukas, naked. As offensive as I find a heroine who goes from one bed to another in less than the time it takes me to make a casserole, Ivy and Lukas together is HAWT. I'm not sure which was hotter, the Reaper hookup, or the Lukas hookup. What I am sure of is that this series should be read with a glass of ice water near by. There is a lot of ho hum sex scenery going around. I appreciate Ms. Miller for blowing the lid off that trend.

A few side notes: Grandma pack leader, the Omega, she is still around. She worked my last good nerve. Ivy has to pick a mate after her wild bang fest. She's in near impossible position so she seeks guidance from Grandma Omega. Grandma is supposed to be super wise with even extra intuition but her advise SUCKED. I don't know why this stuck out in my mind so much but it did. I'm also really curious about what Ivy is working with below the belt. On her first time out of the gate she captured not one but two alphas. I don't read a lot of shifter books so I'm not sure how common that is but it seems pretty non-standard.

If you are already into this series, the fun continues in this book. Don't read these books out of order because they are still just really parts to one long book. If you like the super hot stuff, start at the beginning because this is the series for you.

ARC Review: Desiring Red by Kristin Miller

Please note: This is not a book. This is also not a novella which is a short story. This is the first few chapters in what may at some point be a book. This is a thing that some authors are doing that annoys me more than I can describe. If you want to write a short story I have no problem with that. But a short story has a beginning a middle and an end. If you want to write a serial I can also understand that. But even the individual installments in serials have a beginning a middle and an end, that is true even where there is a follow up in the series. When you get books like this one, all you have are a few chapters in what should be a book but isn't. You get to the end of this book and you just feel like you didn't really read a book. And if you get this for free, that might be okay but if you were actually paying for this I can't imagine that being pleasant.

I was actually really intrigued by the beginning to the story. That's really saying something because I am totally not a paranormal romance reader. In fact, besides the Twilight series, this is my first time reading a book with shape shifters and werewolves. Despite my newness to the genre, I found this book to be extremely sexy, entertaining and intriguing.

I am a fan of insta attraction and was instantly drawn in when Reaper and Ivy seem to find a rapid and intense connection. I also really like the beginning of the story Ivy's interaction with the Alpha and the conflict that it caused between her and Reaper. Ivy strikes me as the kind of heroin I would really like yes she was outgoing outspoken and pretty funny. Reaper is certainly a flavor that I enjoy. He is probably two steps above the typical bossy alpha male who makes these books so enjoyable. Even though this was a really really short story there were a lot of nuances woven into the plot that promise to make this a good book, when it's actually finished. And to be clear, it is not presently finished.

I want to read this book and I would recommend it to others but not until it is more complete than this. I don't mind a to be continued but I really don't want to waste my time reading a couple chapters in a book and then waiting 2 months to get a few more chapters. That just isn't my idea of a good time. So YES this is on my 'you should read it list' but you may want to wait for more of it to be finished.

ARC Review: So I Married a Werewolf by Kristen Miller

Book Three in the Seattle Wolf Pack can be read as part of the series or as a stand-alone. This was a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are all likable and funny which is one thing I look for in a book. This is more a contemporary romance then paranormal the fact that they are all werewolves is inconsequential to the plot of the story it could have been completely left out and not much would have changed. That being said it was still a great read and I want to go back and read the first two books.

Carter Griffin is our clueless hero he works as an enforcer for the pack; he is best friends with his neighbor, Faith Hamilton a dog trainer who works her ass off to get her little brother through school. Faith has tried to keep her attraction to her sexy playboy neighbor reigned in, knowing that his normal type are Barbie doll bimbo types. Carter likes his playboy life style having found his destined life mate already and had it not work out, only to have her die before they could work things out. So Carter keeps things simple and easy with no strings attached. That is until he finds out his promotion depends on his being married or not, so he does what any clueless hero would do in this case and lies. Desperate for help his friend Faith seems to be the answer. Faith loves her little brother more than anything but his recent acceptance to Yale has her bank accounts drained, then Carter offers her a solution, he will pay for her brother’s schooling if she pretends to be his fiancée. Faith sees no other way but to help Carter.

Carter thinks that he can get off easy and just have a long “engagement” with Faith until his competition for the job very loudly voices his doubts to the authenticity of the engagement. In a spur of the moment act of craziness Carter and Faith get married in front of all the council members. It isn’t until Cater kisses Faith for the first time does he realize there may be more to their relationship then just friendship but with his past experience has him doubtful that she could be a second chance for him. Faith is so good for Carter, at least he thinks so he never wanted it to last forever and made sure she knew that. Faith is scared to admit that she loves Carter and with the knowledge that she is going to pay him back she is lucky her dog training blog is really starting to take off and earn her extra cash but afraid of failure keeps it from Carter. Carter has to face a whole lot of truths about himself before he transitions from the clueless hero to the clued in hero, Faith just has to keep it together long enough for him to realize it. What really makes this story memorable is Humperdick, the absolutely adorable dog with a shoe fetish that Faith is fostering and training for her blog.
