Good morning! Thank you for having me at Ramblings from this Chick. I'm happy to be with you today to answer a few questions and to share with you a little about my latest book, The Rogue Steals A Bride.

What are your favorite characteristics in a hero and a heroine?

I think most romances make the hero tall and handsome with some of them maybe ruggedly so. Most heroines are kind, smart, and pretty if not beautiful. For my Regency romances I want the hero to be powerful, privileged, and a tiny bit arrogant. I want him dressed in tight buckskin trousers and wearing shiny Hessian knee boots with his neckcloth casually tied. I want my heroine to be of medium height with long flowing tresses. I want her dresses to be made of fabrics that flutter and flow every time she takes a step. I want her to be bold, sensual, and courageous.

I want my hero and heroine to find themselves in a situation that it takes both of them to figure out how to get out of it.

Do you have any examples to share with us?

I would love to share a couple examples from my latest book, The Rogue Steals A Bride. The first one is what Matson sees and thinks the first time he sees the heroine, Sophia coming toward him:

Matson saw was the woman of his dreams walking straight toward him. She was tall, slim, and graceful with a regal tilt to her chin. The flounces of her pale yellow pelisse fluttered like a delicate leaf caught on a summer wind with every step she took. From beneath her fetching, short-brimmed straw hat, he saw ringlets of gorgeous red curls framing her beautiful face.

Matson had always been attracted to redheads.

And how Sophia sees Matson:

Thinking of that afternoon reminded her of how her stomach tumbled over itself, leaving her with an exciting and delicious feeling the first time she saw the stranger who'd helped her. He was devilishly handsome—just how she envisioned a rogue or rake of the highest order would look. Her heartbeat had raced at the sight of him chasing after the boy, dodging people, smashing pies, and jumping over tumbling loaves of bread.

What is a day in the life of one of your characters like?

The first thing I like to tell people is that the Regency was a very unhurried lifestyle. They were not clock watchers as we are today. And for us, it is so easy to get up in the morning and shower, dress and be out the door in thirty minutes. Not so for the Regency lady. Their clothing was more complicated than ours and more of it to wear. Dresses, gowns, and trousers were fastened by buttons or laces. Most ladies wore corsets or stays that had to be laced, too, so getting dressed was time consuming. A young lady could have her breakfast in bed or in the breakfast room. If she were young girl, her days would be spent learning to read, arithmetic, geography and probably French under the direction of governess. She would also learn embroidery, to play the pianoforte, to paint and write poetry until dinner time. After dinner there would be parlor games like chess or cards. A young lady making her debut into Polite Society would have already had all her teaching so she would fill her days having fittings for gowns, going to card parties or having tea with her friends.

Young lads of the Regency ton were usually sent to a boarding school for their education. When they returned home they spent their days at a local gentleman's club or with their friends shooting, fencing or racing.

What are your favorite types of books to read as well as write about?

I love the wonderful world of Regency Romance. I write in this time period because I love it, I'm intrigued by it, and it satisfies me. I have written in other time periods but my favorite is to write about handsome, titled rakes who wear knee boots polished to a sexy gleam and a heroine who is intelligent, courageous, and looking for a man to share her world. I have never wanted to write any kind of book other than romance.

Thank you for letting me share a few snippets of what makes the Regency Romance so special to me. You'll read about the things I mentioned above in my latest book The Rogue Steals A Bride which is on sale now at your favorite local or online bookstore. The Rogue Steals A Bride is the sixth and final book in the Rogues' Dynasty Series, but you don't have to have read the first five to read this one. Each book stands alone. Here is a short synopsis of the story:

Matson Brentwood has finally met the woman of his dreams. The lovely, red-haired Sophia Hart heats his blood like no other lady. Her alluring countenance has stopped him dead in his tracks. But no matter how attracted he is to her, he can't give into his desire to possess her in every way because she is the ward of the man he's sworn to hate.

Newly arrived in London, Miss Sophia Hart is looking for a husband—for herself and for one of her twin spinster aunts who has decided she wants a man. Sophia agrees to help her aunt by allowing older gentlemen to call on her and then come up with ways to make sure her aunt spends more time with the gentleman than Sophia does.

But there's more than just an unwanted guardian and a long list of beaus standing between Sophia and Matson. Sophia can't give into the maddening charms of the darkly handsome and intriguing Matson. She must deny her love for him and pay her debt to her father for costing him the love of his life.

I hope you'll check out The Rogue Steals A Bride and the other five books in my Rogues' Dynasty Series A Duke To Die For, followed by A Marquis To Marry, An Earl to Enchant, A Gentleman Never Tells, A Gentleman Says “I Do”, and now, The Rogue Steals A Bride.

  12. Good morning! Congrats on the new release! Thank you RFTC for giving me a new author and series to read! Amelia I've always said I wanted to live in the regency period, if only the clothes weren't so confusing lol.. So much to remember and so many layers! I love the period because the thought process was so different, social etiquette hierarchy pride what's proper.. Things sure got in the way of love!.. I'm excited to see what happens between these two, it sounds like its going to be quite an adventure! Thank you!

  13. Hi Sherry, I've already started a new series called The Heirs' Club of Scundrels. I'll be turning in the first book to my editor this summer. So stand by for more rogues!

Sue G and Lorimeehan, so funny you talked about the heroine in green. The first cover my publisher came up with had the heroine in light green colored gown! I think her hair is gorgeous! My publisher did a great job on the cover.

Good luck to everyone on winning the free book!

  20. Hello Amelia! A gal after my own heart. I, too, love flowers, candlelight, sweet smiles, gentle laughter and sunshine. And along with a hunky hero and feisty heroine, I like the aforementioned things in my romances. I want the hero to woo the heroine, even though it may take him awhile to get the "message" to do so. I like the give and take of their courtship and their resolution of any past errors or problems so that they get their HEA's. They are the positive for me in this oh-so-negative world we live in! You keep writing and I'll keep reading your books. :-) jdh2690@gmail.com
