ARC Review: Wicked Wolf by Carrie Ann Ryan
With every new book Carrie Ann Ryan puts out I have a new favorite. As the last and the first book of the series Wicked Wolf is the transition book that wraps up the Redwood Pack and kicks off the Talon Pack. If you have not read the Redwood Pack this is the book where you need to pick up with the story arc wrapped up for the previous series and the foreshadowing of the upcoming turmoil in the next.
Gina Eaton inherited her mother’s powers, and is one of the few true half breeds half witch-half wolf; however that doesn’t get in the way of her power and strength as a wolf if anything it just made her stronger to the point that she is goddess blessed as the Redwood Packs next Enforcer. Gina lost her parents during the war with the Central Pack and was adopted by the Alpha family; she has known loss and love from two sets of parents and has grown up a well balanced adult.
Quinn Weston grew up in the dysfunctional Talon Pack and only the past few decades has been trying to catch up with the times and not be antiquated. Quinn knew love or at least he thought he did, he mated with a woman and she bore him a son, but she wasn’t cut out to be a mother and a wife and she left using a dark witch to cut the bond almost killing her son. Now five years later Jesse is barely hanging on even with the help of Hannah, the Redwood Pack healer, he might not make it.
Gina and Quinn are charged with heading the committee to harmonize the two packs so that another devastating war between packs will not happen again but the underlining tension between them is palpable. Quinn is hesitant to mate again and the fact that Gina is half witch just makes him want to resist more, but the big ass that he is breaks Gina instead of a gentle let down. Balling my eyes out all the while Gina does too she lets her family comfort her then she stands up and shows no weakness determined to move on. The news that a new mating bond maybe just the thing to save little Jesse cements the bond between Quinn and Gina; and despite what has happened Gina agrees to a mating to save Jesse. Everyone is safe and content until Quinn’s former mate shows up again wanting back in the pack her son and her mate.
I typically don’t like book that make me cry but Carrie Ann Ryan has the ability to write a story that makes me laugh, bite my nails in anticipation, and fan myself from the steam coming from the book and it wouldn’t be the same if it didn’t rip my heart out stomp on it a little then put it back in and kiss it and make it better. Carrie Ann Ryan will play your heart strings like a harpsichord and I love it.

ARC Review: The Phoenix Candidate by Heidi Joy Tretheway
I became a huge fan of Heidi Joy Tretheway's after reading her Tattoo Thief series. I really enjoyed those books, so I couldn't wait to read The Phoenix Candidate when I heard about it. As much as I loved the TT Series though, I loved the Phoenix Candidate more! This book was fantastic, and I couldn't put it down. Jared and Grace's story was captivating and smoking hot, and I didn't want to do anything else but keep reading. I cannot wait for more of these two, and I highly recommend checking this books out if you haven't already.
After losing her husband and child to a horrible tragedy, Grace Colton is determined to help others to never have to go through what she did. She becomes a US Congresswoman and dedicates her life to serving others. But one night she meets a handsome stranger in a bar and they agree to spend one night together with no last names or stories. She wakes to an empty hotel room and a phone call that changes her life. Underdog for the 2016 presidential election, Senator Shep Conover had decided that he wants to consider adding Grace to his ticket as his VP. When Grace goes to meet Shep, she discovers that his political consultant is none other than her sexy one night stand Jared. As Jared Rankin begins the process of turning Grace into the next VP of the US, he starts telling Grace everything that she must do or change in order to have her best shot. But Grace isn't willing to be anyone's puppet, and soon she must decide who she can trust when it seems that everyone around her has an ulterior motive.
I loved Jared. He was so complicated, and yet he was the one that was constantly simplifying things for Grace. He got her out of her head when she needed it, and he made sure that she took her "One F'ing Minute" to stop thinking and just calm down. I thought that he was sweet and caring, but hard when he needed to be. He didn't sugar coat things, and I really enjoyed the fact that he was always on Grace's side even when he had to give her some tough love. He wasn't afraid to tell her things that others wouldn't, and I thought that he was exactly what she needed. Grace was so strong. She had been through so much and had vowed to do something positive with her life afterwards. On the surface it appeared that she was doing really well, but Jared quickly pointed out that she wasn't really living and he was so right about that. He got Grace to actually start to live again, and I was glad that she was able to let go of her past and the guilt she felt for being happy and wanting things again. I have to say that Grace and Jared were so hot together, and the chemistry was downright explosive between these two from the beginning. Grace and Jared were both so incredibly passionate, and I was glad that they were able to explore their desires together. Jared fulfilled so many of Grace's needs that had never been touched before, and they connected on every single level. But beyond the physical, these two understood one another and I really liked seeing how their emotional connection developed as well. As much as Jared had his life together, he also had a vulnerable side that only Grace was able to reach.
Overall, this book was amazing. It had the perfect balance of romance, sex and politics. This book was interesting in and out of the bedroom and I couldn't wait to read what would happen next. I loved the chemistry and connection between Grace and Jared, but I think that what really made this book so special was what a strong female lead Grace was. I loved her instantly and her strength and integrity were amazing to read about. I will say that while I loved this book and was very satisfied with how it ended, I absolutely cannot wait for more! I am so excited that we are getting more of the story with The Phoenix Campaign, and I can't wait to see how things play out with how things ended here. I will say that with the excerpt from the new book that I read at the end of The Phoenix Candidate, I wasn't surprised by where things are going next. I pretty much saw it coming throughout this story, but I can't wait to read it anyways. Things are about to get even more interesting for Grace and Jared as they continue their relationship and the campaign and I am dying for more of these two! I highly recommend this book, and if you haven't read anything by Heidi Joy Tretheway you are definitely missing out!

It took a moment for Chelsea to notice him, which gave Ian a moment to admire her. He was going to crush her tomorrow, but that didn’t stop him from appreciating a figure that guys like him dreamed about. Chelsea was wearing a skirt today. It hit about mid-thigh and was tight enough to show off all her curves. She looked a bit taller today too. He glanced at her feet and noticed the shoes. Chelsea was walking on stilts, and her legs, good God, her legs. She was smoking hot in that dress and those shoes.
“Hey!” she said sharply, her voice full of accusation.
Ian’s head snapped up. “Hey,” he said con-genially. “Practicing your pitch?” He settled one hip onto the conference table.
“Do you mind?” She gestured to the door in a be-off-with-you way.
“If you want, I could listen and give you some feedback.”
Chelsea’s mouth dropped open. And then her green eyes narrowed into little slits. “You have got to be the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.”
Ian smiled and shrugged.
“You can go, Ian,” she said, marching around the conference table to usher him out. “I think I’ve got it.”
“Suit yourself.”
“I will.”
“So hostile,” he said with a wink as he stood up. “I’m just trying to help. It never hurts for someone to hear the pitch, right? You’ve had someone listen to you go through it, right?”
“Yes, I’ve had—Hey, hey,” she said, poking him in the chest. “Are you trying to play me?” she demanded. “Because it won’t work. I’m not some junior account person, you know. You can’t intimidate me.”
“Well, obviously,” Ian said and poked her back. “You wouldn’t be pitching at all if you were a junior account person. I know I can’t intimidate you. It wasn’t a declaration of war, you know; it was an offer to help.”
“It wasn’t a let-me-help, best-friends-forever offer, either. I’m not playing games with you. This account means a lot to me—”
“Me too.”
“Oh yeah?” she said, shifting closer. “Well, don’t get too attached to the idea. I’ve got seniority, you know.”
“So why are you so afraid to show me what you’ve got?”
“Because it’s none of your business.”
“On the eve of the championship, it’s okay to go out and shoot some hoops with your competitor. It’s not going to affect tomorrow’s big game. It’s not like I can go out and change weeks of work overnight if I see you’ve got something better.”
She laughed. “Good try, Rafferty, but I think maybe the reason you want to see my pitch is because you’re worried about the strength of your pitch. Is it a little rough? Maybe I should listen to you.” She winked, and her green eyes shone with pleasure at her comeback.
“I’m definitely not worried about my pitch.”
“No? Seems to me if you’re presenting three,” she said, holding up three fingers and wiggling them at him, “then you must be uncertain which one is the winner.” Her smile broadened into sheer triumph, as if she thought she’d really zinged him.
She hadn’t zinged him, but Ian did wonder how she knew what he had…Zach. Of course. That rat bastard. “Have you been talking to Zimmerman?” he asked accusingly.
She shrugged and studied her manicure. “Maybe. Does it matter? I thought we were doing the let’s-help-each-other thing. But if we’re not, would you mind toddling off? I have a lot of work I need to do before tomorrow. I plan to hit the ground running with this account on Monday.”
She was amazingly and annoyingly confident. Ian was generally a confident guy, but she was making him a teensy bit nervous. “You really think you’re going to get this, don’t you?”
“I don’t think, I know,” she said, looking up.
He tilted his head to one side to study her. “Isn’t it obvious to you why they brought me in?”
“I don’t know—I haven’t given it the slightest bit of thought.” She lifted her chin, and Ian realized she lied about as well as she engaged in verbal volleyball. “I’ve been promised that this account is as good as mine. Didn’t they tell you that when they brought you in?”
A bit more of Ian’s confidence leaked out of him. He’d been in New York advertising long enough to know that the industry was full of snakes. He wouldn’t put it past anyone to feed him a bunch of half-baked promises to get him to commit. “Who told you?”
She grinned. “None of your beeswax.”
“Come on, tell me—” His phone rang, distracting him momentarily. He fished it out of his pocket and noticed the number was the Grabber-Paulson main number. That was weird. “Listen, I’ll just say this,” he said, clicking off the phone. “Don’t be so sure of things. People say things they don’t mean, especially in this industry.” He started for the door.
“Uh-huh, I know. And I would offer you the same advice, Mr. Rafferty,” she said in a singsong voice, and she flashed a dazzling smile, full of straight white teeth.
“Cocky too. I like that about you,” he said. “I’ll keep it in mind when I make partner.” He winked at her, smiled as if he was completely unbothered, and went out of the conference room.
