Romance Book Casting Call with Roni Loren and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome to the Casting Call Roni Loren. I am so happy to have Roni back here at RFTC.   Roni is super awesome and I love chatting with her on Twitter. Plus her book Crash Into You is wicked hot and I can't wait to see how she has cast it.

Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. Though she’ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son. If she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts. Yeah, that's it. Her debut novel, CRASH INTO YOU, is now available from Berkely Heat.

Ah, this is always such a fun game--though surprisingly hard at times. There are books where I know exactly what celebrity I’m modeling the character after. For instance, in the book I’m writing now, FALL INTO YOU, I knew going in that my hero, Grant, was going to look like country singer Blake Shelton. (Because I needed a tall, yummy cowboy and how better to fill that role?)

But with CRASH INTO YOU, I didn’t really have celebrities in mind when I created my characters. So I actually didn’t start looking for visual inspiration until about halfway through the book. For my lawyer/Dom hero, Reid, I did finally come across this picture of Rob Lowe that I thought fit well. Dark hair, blue eyes, conservative suit, but that oh-I-have-a-wicked-secret look in his eye.

Plus, Crash Into You is told in dual timeline format, where every other chapter goes back to ten years earlier in the hero and heroine’s relationship. So, I needed to be able to picture Reid as a college student as well as a grown man. And who doesn’t remember how freaking cute Rob Lowe was as a teen/twenty-something?

So after that, I was sold. Now I have trouble picturing Reid as anyone else. (Though, I do actually think of him as taller, less tan, and less smarmy than the modern day Rob Lowe, lol. And I couldn’t bring myself to watch him in the Drew Pederson movie because they made him look so gross. Blech. *buries head in sand* So I wouldn’t actually cast him in the role today. But I would look for someone with the same qualities.)
