Today I would like to welcome to the blog author Jill Shalvis. Jill is currently on tour promoting her newest release, Lucky in Love and was kind enough to take the time our of her busy schedule to let me ask her a few questions, but first let's get to know Jill a bit.
New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis lives in a small town in the Sierras with her family and far too many assorted quirky animals. Any resemblance to the quirky animals in her books is, um, mostly coincidental. Look for Jill’s bestselling, award-winning books wherever romances are sold and visit her website at www.jillshalvis.com for a completely booklist and daily blog detailing her city-girl-living-in-the-mountains adventures.

Lucky In Love: A badass hero Ty Garrison, an ex Navy SEAL whose entire life has been one adrenaline rush after another but none of it compares to the adrenaline rush/roller coaster ride of falling in love with good girl Mallory Quinn.
What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?
Anything that’s been fully outlined with blocking, motivation and conflict all laid out ahead of time. J
If you could have dinner with any three authors (alive or dead), who would you choose and why?
(to thank them for the inspiration)
Mallory Quinn has had enough of playing it safe. As a nurse and devoted daughter, she takes care of everyone but herself. And as the local good girl, she’s expected to date Mr. Right. But for once, she’d like to take a risk on Mr. Wrong. And who could be more wrong than Ty Garrison? The mysterious new guy in town has made it clear that he’s only passing through, which suits Mallory just fine. Besides, his lean, hard body and sexy smile will give her plenty to remember once he’s gone…
For the first time in his life, Ty can’t bear to leave. Helping this sexy seductress-in-training walk on the wild side is making him desire things he shouldn?t?including leaving the military for good. As their just-for-fun fling becomes something more, Mallory and Ty wonder if they could really be this lucky in love. After all…anything can happen in a town called Lucky Harbor.

I like contemporary because it is usually easy to relate to. I know I like to read to escape, but sometimes I want something that is familiar so contemporary can give that - at least in time, place, and sometimes situation.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading all of Jill books.
ReplyDeleteYour books are the best!
ReplyDeleteI love all romances but it is nice to read about romance in our time it makes it more familiar and understandable as your characters think and feel pretty much the same way you do.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy contemporaries because they have settings and situations that I can relate to even if I haven't lived in a small town.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read historicals or paranormals, I can't really imagine myself meeting someone like the hero, but in contemporaries, it's easy to imagine that I might run into him in a coffee shop or something. Contemporaries are total wish fulfillment.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS SERIES!!! lol I'm usually a historical romance type of girl, but when I find a good contemp. I fall completely in love. A great historical romance is a must for me, but sometimes I need the change of pace to something more relatable and current. I think some of the best contemps I've read have some of the great foundations of romance that work in any time period. Protectiveness, passion, courting, and good ol' tension... they will always carry a good story.
ReplyDeleteI have been a historical romance "junkie" for many years. It allows me to imagine/dream/escape to a less complicated and slower world where the good guys usually finish first. I won a copy of one of Julia London's contemporaries and realized that I could do the same thing in the modern realm! Its been a real love affair ever since!
ReplyDeleteI like variety in my reading, so after living in history it's nice to switch up& come back to the present. And sometimes I learn about something new.
ReplyDeleteContemporary romances are easy to relate to. They're less complicated and a nice change of pace from the historicals I usually read.
ReplyDeleteI guess it is the romantic in me but I think it is the hope that...it could happen!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading contemporary romance because it's more realistic romance...romance that you believe can happen!
ReplyDeleteContemporary romances are more relatable and easy to understand. I do enjoy a historical now and then, but I get more caught up in the history and background than the love story. (Or I have to look up a lot of things I don't know about!).

I read contemporary romances because I can identify with the characters. They have the same problems and issues that I have. They can't wave a magic wand and make their problems go away. They have to work through their issues like the rest of us.

I love historical and contemps. I like contemps because I can relate to them easier cause they are dealing with modern woman and modern problems. Thanks for sharing with us!

I think what keeps me coming back is the fact that contemporaries are more relatable and believable to the everyday world, so I can picture myself more easily in the story or really connect with the characters, setting, dialogue, etc.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy contemporary romance because I can relate to the characters!
