Guest Post with Author Heather Long and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to the blog author Heather Long. Heather is celebrating the release of her book Jacob's Trial, and has stopped by to chat. Before I give the floor over to Heather, lets learn a bit about her.

Heather Long lives in Texas with her family and their menagerie of animals. As a child, Heather skipped picture books and enjoyed the Harlequin romance novels by Penny Jordan and Nora Roberts that her grandmother read to her. Heather believes that laughter is as important to life as breathing and that the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus are very real. In the meanwhile, she is hard at work on her next novel.

What do you do?

Well, there's a short answer and a long answer. Oddly enough, the only person I've never had to explain my job to is my daughter. She has watched me churn out book after book. She listened to me grumble as characters misstep. She heard me complain about edits. She even watched me stare at a white screen, the cursor blinking as I wondered if people wanted to hear about my love affair with tea when it came time to guest blog.

Don't get me wrong, I love my job. But sometimes, explaining what I do isn't always easy.

Them: "What do you do?"

Me: "I'm an author."

Them: "Oh, are you published?"

Me: "Yes, ma'am." (Or sir)

Them: "What kind of books do you write?"

Well, here's the part that gets tricky. I write in a variety of genres because I like to read a lot of genres. I like drama, but I like comedy, too. I like mystery, but I also like feel-good love stories. I love ghosts, witches, werewolves, vampires, and yes, I love Elves and Wizards too. So when it comes down to what do I write? Well, I have to list off the genres and when their eyes light up—those are the books I talk about.

But my favorite reaction often occurs when I say: "I write erotic romance."

They either get busy looking somewhere else or they lean in close like we're sharing a secret. I haven't found anyone middle of the line on that one. The wide-range in reactions is probably just as much associated with the material as it is with the person. For example, Cassandra's Dilemma began as an idea for an urban fantasy that slowly, inexorably became a paranormal romance and eventually transformed itself into a ménage.

How's that for organic growth?

From beginning to end of the initial trilogy that kicks off the Forbidden Legacy series, I wasn't always certain she'd end up with both guys. The dilemma, in the first one is about the choices Cassandra has to make, including her indelible passion for two very different men—men who are enemies when the series begins.

In Jacob's Trial, we're confronted with the fallout of her decisions—fallout that both men must confront and overcome if they want to make the woman they love—the woman they have both sworn oaths to, safe. It was a tricky, delicious rode of danger, sex, passion, history, and ancient rivalries that kept me glued to the keyboard.

Fortunately, as I stated earlier, I love my job.

Jacob's Trial is available now and Hels's Gauntlet, the third in the initial trilogy releases on August 19 from Siren-Bookstrand. I hope you'll join me for this wild ride, because I love my job.

Tell me, what attracts you to a new series?

New alliances are threatened…

Wizard Jacob, Fae Helcyon and their paramour Cassandra have set up a household together. Jacob and Helcyon have accepted the other in Cassie’s life, but they must work to realize that they need each other too in order to become a true trio.

Dark pacts are revealed…

The Fae are trending world wide, but the arrival of many dangerous beings, old foes and new friends bring about charges of treason for Jacob and a new danger for Cassie. Intrigue closes in on all sides as factions jockey for power in the divided Wizard Council.

One legacy may unite them…

Helcyon and Jacob are determined to keep the woman they love safe, but danger lurks at every turn and the old ways threaten their future.
