Interview with Author Christine Warner and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome author Christine Warner to RFTC. Christine is celebrating the release of her upcoming book Two-Timing the Boss and has stopped by to answer a few questions. But before I get to the interview, let's get to know a bit about Christine.

Christine Warner is living her dream in rural Michigan along with her husband, three children, one laptop and a much loved assortment of furry friends.

Besides laughing and a good round of humor, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, reading, writing but no arithmitic. A confessed people watcher, she finds inspiration for her stories in everyday activities. She loves to read and write about strong heroes and determined, sometimes sassy, heroines.

A girl gone wild, at least where social media is concerned, she enjoys meeting other avid readers and writers on facebook, twitter and her website at christine-warner.com.

Places to find Christine:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Okay, I’ll nudge you if you start to nod off! Lol I live in Michigan along with my husband. Two of our 3 kids live at home and we share our space with a much loved assortment of cats and dogs. I love to cook, read, laugh and people watch. I can’t even begin to name all of the interesting people quirks I’ve seen that have helped me when writing.

Other than that I am slightly addicted to social media, chocolate and coffee and enjoy meeting and talking with other authors and readers and pretty much anyone in general!

Did you always want to be a writer?
I wasn’t born with a dictionary and pen in hand, but when I was in elementary school I won and essay contest then a young author’s award and I was hooked. The love of writing was born and over the years I wrote here and there. Life got busy with boyfriends, then marriage, jobs, kids, family obligations and I kept putting off my dream until about 3 years ago when my sister gave me a shove so I’d pursue something I’d always dreamed about.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I have one leg in and one leg out…I basically write up a quick outline with major plot points along with character sketches and go from there. Some of my manuscripts get more of a detailed outline than others, but having an outline gives me the chance to write free-style and make changes as I go. That way I have the best of both worlds. I have some guidance to stay on track, but some freedom to shake things up a bit if my characters lead me in another direction.

Where do your ideas come from?
Stories come to me from so many places. I can come up with an idea from a conversation, a word I overhear, a commercial or a sentence from a television show, a picture. Everywhere.

It’s funny how so many things in everyday life can trigger a story idea. For instance the story of Two Timing the Boss came to me first in the title. Originally the working title was Fakin’it with Farah and from those words I built the characters and their storyline all while I was driving into work one morning. I couldn’t get the idea out of my head of a story about twin sisters who would do anything to help each other. When one is in an accident and needs reconstructive surgery—but has no money or health insurance and doesn’t qualify for assistance—the more responsible sister throws caution and her responsible nature to the wind and allows her sister to talk her into a plan to secure a job that will help earn the funds needed.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Farah Smith will do whatever it takes to secure a job with morally bankrupt businessman Keller Donovan, even if she has to wear a disguise to do it.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
My favorite is contemporary romance because that is what I first started reading in the romance genre. I love the here and now and the fact that it’s easy to picture the story happening. It’s also my favorite genre to write.

I also LOVE to read true crime when I’m not enjoying romance.

This year I made a promise to myself to step outside the box a little more and dabble in other genres, at least reading-wise. I’ve enjoyed a few paranormal books, westerns and historicals and I know I’ll be reading more.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
There are so many books that I have enjoyed over the years it would be impossible to pick a favorite. Generally, if it’s a story that I loved and enjoyed and will want to read again, I keep it. It will receive a place of honor on the shelves in the office. Otherwise I tend to donate books after I read them because I just can’t keep them all.

Now that I have a Nook, it makes keeping more books manageable…so I do! lol

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
I love writing dialogue, sex scenes, internals, but I have a hard time writing fight scenes. And I’m mainly talking about physical scenes, the tense words or actions in a battle of words. I find it emotionally draining. I’m also struggle with writing physical fight scenes as well, for the same reasons. So far only one of my stories has involved a major physical fight scene though. In my debut novel, Some Like it in Handcuffs, there is a small scene between my heroine—a private investigator—and the villain. When I finished writing those few paragraphs, I had to call it a day.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
I’d love to meet Ann Rule because I love her true crime books. Lori Wilde because I’ve talked to her on facebook several times as well as when she was a managing editor at Entangled (she contracted one of my stories for them) and I just find her so friendly and down to earth. And finally I’d have to say any of my awesome friends in my critiques groups. I’ve gotten to know them over the years online, but it would be so much fun to meet one or more of them in person.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m always working on something. Lol I’m currently working on 2 contemporary romances and plotting out a few others. Generally I work on more than 1 story because I tend to like to jump around. When I hit a roadblock in one, I can move to the other until I work out the issues in the story that gave me troubles. Seems to work well for me.

Farah Smith is on a mission: secure the funds for her twin sister’s surgery. She’ll do whatever it takes to succeed. Even if that means putting her values aside to work for a man she finds morally bankrupt. But when the real Farah meets her new boss, she wonders if she’ll be able to resist his sexy advances long enough to help her sister.

From the blonde wig, to the stilettos strapped around her ankles, Farah’s a clone of Keller Donovan’s harem of past assistants. She can’t believe she’s let herself be talked into the disguise, let alone working for the man planning to demolish the hospital her sister so desperately needs, but the salary he offers is the only way she’ll be able to afford her sister’s surgery. The moment Farah meets Keller she realizes her most daunting task isn’t typing, spreadsheets or organizing travel arrangements, but fighting the growing attraction toward a man whose ruthlessness is legendary in the boardroom as well as the bedroom.

Determined not to end up in a disastrous marriage like his divorced parents, Keller believes all relationships should have a shelf life of sixth months or less. But when he meets Farah, all bets are off. He not only wants her to continue as his personal assistant, but his own private bed warmer. Unfortunately, his offer of an affair doesn’t sit well with her fairytale dreams or the strangled hold gripping his heart.

Places to Purchase:

These damn shoes would be the death of her. She could read the headlines now: Penniless P.A. Falls to her Death while on Job Interview.

Almost to her destination, with no more mishaps, her confidence surfaced. Okay, maybe mastering this heel thing wouldn’t be such a big deal. Her steps became light, almost bouncy. Although she sensed Keller Donovan behind her, she didn’t let it deter her feeling of success. She stepped onto the large black and red area rug, less than ten feet from her target. The leather chairs.

“Oh!” Farah’s spiky heel caught on the edge of the expensive rug. Her legs shook and she shot her arms out from her sides, circling them like a bird about to take flight. She fought to regain balance inside the ridiculous stilts strapped to her feet. A brawl to the death. Over when she looked down to see the rug coming up to kiss her face. She threw out her hands, sucked in a breath and closed her eyes, scrunching her face as she prepared for impact.

But nothing happened. There were stars all right, and a blazing jolt of electricity shot from her toes, up her legs, through her body and exited with the small gasp which escaped her lips. Somehow Keller Donovan had grabbed her around the waist before she met the floor.

Heat burned her cheeks. He may have saved her body from bruises, but her ego, and whatever confidence she’d walked in with had shattered.

“Let’s not have an accident before your health benefits kick in.” His breath
tickled her ear from behind. Chills hugged her backbone.

His touch released an unsettling flutter in her abdomen. She sucked in her stomach from the pressure of his strong arms wrapped around her middle, afraid to breathe.

I can't wait to read Two Timing the Boss. The excerpt sounded so interesting; blond wig and high heels. Evidently, this is just what the boss is looking for in a secretary or is he?
