Interview with Author Ros Clarke and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome author Ros Clarke to the blog. Ros is celebrating the release of her book The Oil Tycoon and Her Sexy Sheikh and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Before I get to that, lets get to know a bit about Ros.

Ros is a writer, a student, a church worker, a crafter, a blogger, a twitterer, a lazy gardener, and an appalling housekeeper. She lives in a sixteenth century shed in England and is very glad that it has twenty-first century plumbing. She is interested in almost everything except cricket and football (US and UK) and mostly she likes happy endings in fiction and in real life.

Ros has been writing stories for as long as she can remember, never dreaming that other people would be interested in reading them. A few years ago, she discovered a writing forum on the internet, and has never looked back. Her head—and her hard drive—are full of ideas for fresh, fun, contemporary romances that she hopes you’ll love as much as she does.

Places to find Ros:

Hi Danielle and thanks so much for welcoming me to the blog today.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Sure. I’m British, I’m a PhD student and I work for my local church. I live on my own in a tiny cottage in the countryside, with a bright pink sofa and a garden full of flowers. And weeds.

Did you always want to be a writer?
When I was a kid I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast or a maths teacher. I became a maths teacher, but it didn’t live up to expectations. I’ve always written stories but I never dreamed that anyone else would want to read them

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
The make-it-up-as-you-go-along kind. I have tried plotting, but then I find that I’m bored of the story even before I’ve started writing it. I much prefer starting with the characters, or a particular scene or snippet of dialogue and then seeing what happens. Of course I do then have to work out a plot and go back and change it all round.

Where do your ideas come from?
No one’s ever asked me that before! I have no idea, is the answer. But there’s always more stories in my head than I could possibly have time to write.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Oil tycoon and environmentalist sheikh clash in the boardroom, burn it up in the bedroom, and come to an understanding out on the sea.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I’m a huge fan of category romances – short, sweet and a guaranteed happy ending before bedtime. I’m in awe of the way some authors can deal with such huge issues in such a short space and still give a satisfying read. I do love historicals too, though I’m a little bit of a stickler for historical plausibility, so I’m a bit fussy about which authors I’ll read.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I have a lot of favourite books. *grin* One that I return to again and again is Georgette Heyer’s Venetia. Such a perfect romance.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
The sex scenes. Next question.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Oh, great question. Can I have dead authors? I want Barbara Cartland because she would be hilariously posh and outrageous. And I want Nora Roberts because, well, she’s Nora Roberts. And Jill Mansell because she’s so funny on twitter.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m working on my next Indulgence, and also thinking about a historical romance series set in the outrageously debauched world of Restoration England.

His duty, her dreams, undone by their desire…

In the male-dominated oil industry, executive Olivia McInnes plays a careful game – she’s cold, uncompromising, and ambitious as hell. Once she seals the deal to drill in the clear waters of Saqat, she’ll finally prove herself worthy to take the reins of her father’s oil company. Her only obstacle is marine biologist – and Saqat’s royal heir – Sheih Khaled Ibm Saqat , who’s determined to protect both his people and his country from environmental devastation…

It’s not long before Olivia’s icy cool exterior is shattered by the intelligent and wickedly hot sheikh, and business is surpassed by sweet, stolen pleasures. But outside the bedroom, there’s reality to be faced. Soon Khaled must return to his obligations – and his betrothed – in Saqat.

Caught between duty and ambition, can an oil tycoon and a sexy sheikh find room for love…or will this business deal spell disaster for them both?
