These Boots Are Made for…
Thanks so much for hosting me today! I’m thrilled to be here!
When I first saw the cover for Accidental Cowgirl, I fell completely and shamelessly in love with the heroine’s boots. This surprised me, because I’m actually not a boot girl. In reality, I’m more of a slipper girl, or clogs for those special going-out-of-the-actual-house occasions. But when I saw those boots, I really, really wanted some.
I might have also felt that way about that cowboy on the cover, but I digress.
I’ve never really understood the shoe thing. I wouldn’t know a pair of Manolos from a pair of Kmart specials (I know – sorry! I’m totally going to lose my real-girl card.) and the thought of tottering about on heels makes my ankles hurt. I own four pairs of shoes – the clogs I wear every single day because I’m officially short and they make me feel taller, the sneakers I pretend to run in sometimes after dark, the shoes I use to mow the lawn, and the pair of one-inch black heels I save for weddings and funerals. I’m pretty sure they still have a bit of mud on them from that rainy outdoor wedding in 2007, which is the last time I wore them. I have one pair of boots for when the snow is less than three inches high, and one for when it storms. That’s it.
So my reaction to the boots on my book cover was unusual, to say the least. I started Googling cowgirl boots, found all sorts of sites I never knew existed, found all sorts of products I never knew existed. It was like discovering a whole new world of stuff I would never ever use … but somehow had to have.
Unfortunately, real cowgirl boots are expensive. I can’t afford to form an attachment that could become an addiction. And really, where would I wear them? Sitting in my office typing away with gorgeous boots on sounds completely silly.
Then again, have you seen those boots?
How about you? Which catalog or website has you craving completely impractical things?
In her Loveswept debut, Maggie McGinnis tells the tale of a city girl who’s running on fumes—and the cowboy who shows her all the good things she’s been missing.
After being betrayed by her con man ex-fiancĂ©, Kyla Bennett nurses a broken heart. But Kyla's friends have other ideas and when they whisk her off to Whisper Creek, a dude ranch staffed by cowboys so hot they dim the Montana sunset, all Kyla wants to do is hide under a quilt. Then in rides Decker Driscoll. He’s hauling about as much emotional baggage as Kyla, but when he stands close by, both of them want to stay close—and begin to succumb to an undeniable attraction.
After experiencing personal tragedy, Decker never thought he’d see Big Sky country again. But now that his family's Whisper Creek property is in deep with a Vegas gambler, Decker’s back for the summer—and spending all his time running from “cowgirls” who come to the dude ranch to score some dudes. Then he meets Kyla, a kindred spirit who brings on a stampede of protective feelings . . . and a powerful hankering to sear her with a new brand of love.

Thanks so much for hosting me today!! I'll be popping in and out all day, so feel free to say hello!
ReplyDeleteI, too, am not a shoe girl, so I absolutely understand. I gave up heels in the '80's and never looked back! My guilty pleasure is Victoria's Secret undergarments. I have bras I can't wear under anything because they show through, are too lacey, (and therefore itch), and produce too much cleavage for the Northeast. But, I love them. I pour over the catalog ever time they come, even when I can't buy anything. I usually wear a beige bra that does it's job and feels comfortable.
ReplyDeleteOmigoodness - never thought of the Northeast having cleavage limits! :) :) Too funny!!
DeleteHi Maggie,
ReplyDeleteThe cowgirl boots on your cover are gorgeous. I am, specifically, a flip-flop and boot girl. My favorite boots are my plaid Ness wellies, from Scotland.
I simply cannot believe that I've never noticed you are permanently in clogs. Now that I think on it, you are! But you wear them well.
My favorite website for impractical things is The Black Dog. I don't have a black dog, I have a white and caramel one, so I feel a bit of a fraud buying stuff - and the store is a little pricey, but the clothing and mugs etc. are adorable, so it's worth it.
Yes, I am even shorter than you thought!! Ut oh on The Black Dog. I've never heard of that one! Danger! Danger! :)
DeleteI'm a TOTAL shoe girl! I have a closet just devoted to them and I agree: when I saw your cover I feel in severe lust with those boots and want them! I have my own DSW card and they know me by my first name. I'm going to look for those boots at my store. DO you think they come in other colors, too? Have fun blogging today.
ReplyDeleteSee? Peggy definitely has a real-girl card. She has her own DSW account!
DeleteI'm not sure if those boots come in other colors, but I have a feeling you might just be the gal to find that out! :)
Shoes - ShoeDazzle
ReplyDeleteClothes - Victoria's Secret (yes the real clothes)
I am getting better, but I still have the urge to buy when I really shouldn't. :-D
Ooh - ShoeDazzle sounds too fun to resist. I might have to go check them out!
DeleteThe cowboys are sexy and love how their are hardworking
ReplyDeleteThey definitely are both of those!! :)
DeleteOhh this one looks like a good one. When it comes to shoes, I am function over form. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dansko shoes they are comfortable and wear well. My favorite place for impractical things is Levenger.com. It's paper products and leather carrying cases for i things and e things (iPads, e-readers etc.). My life is in the cloud, so paper is impractical, and I'm way too rough & tumble for a leather carrying case for anything! Still, I drool.
ReplyDeleteUt oh - it sounds like this site could go very well with my Staples addiction! :)
DeleteHi Maggie! So excited about your release. Great question - and great answers that make me want to give my credit card a workout. Etsy is a great place to browse for the most unlikely things. I have been known to buy fascinators there.
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle: so glad you are hosting Maggie. She's my girl :)
Aww, thanks, Miranda!! Thanks for stopping by!!
DeleteAnd yes, I really should have had the foresight to lock my credit card UP before I posed this question!! :)
Now checking out Etsy ...
Thanks for the giveaway chance! I love any shoe site and Victoria's Secret!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for Victoria's Secret! And shoes! I'm sensing a real-girl pattern here... :)
DeleteMy impractical want is books. Lol. I have so many now that need to be read but I always find more I want to read. I love cowboys. I'm reading About one now.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the cowboys!! And the books! :)
DeleteBooks, books and more books. Seriously...I have a kindle and I'm on Amazon daily! It's an addiction.
ReplyDeleteThat's a *gooood* addiction!! :)
DeleteThanks so much for having me here today!!
ReplyDeleteI love cowboys because they work with their hands all day which makes them good with them.
ReplyDeleteI like Amazon :)
ReplyDeleteGive me a pair of boots -- western, 'fashion', hiking, just no high heels -- any day! I'll take them over designer shoes in a heart beat -- especially since I'm the worlds biggest klutz. :-)
ReplyDeleteBooks and boots are my addictions!
