Guest Post with Author Boone Brux and Giveaway

Boone's stories range from high fantasy to contemporary romance.

Having lived all over the world, and finally settling in the icy region of Alaska, she's always looking for the next adventure. It's not unusual to find Boone traversing the remotest parts of the Alaskan bush, gathering information for her stories. No person or escapade is off limits when it comes to weaving real life experiences into her books or blogs.

My Top Ten Weird Wedding Facts

When I was brainstorming post ideas for my new release, Random Acts of Marriage, I kept landing on weird facts about weddings. Well, you don’t have to write it on a piece of lettuce and feed it to me. This was great stuff for a fun post. So I thought I’d compile the ten weirdest facts I found and share them with you.

1. The longest wedding train was 1.85 miles long.

Okay, first of all, why? I’ve racked my brain and can’t come up with one logical reason why somebody would purposely tack 9768 feet of material to their rear end. Secondly, even if the material was only $1 a yard, it would still cost over $3000. Do you know how much champagne you can buy for $3000. A lot, and you don’t have to store it afterwards.

2. The term “best man” originated centuries ago when the would-be groom, for whatever reason, had to steal his bride and needed a partner in crime. Since kidnapping was a two-man job, the best man would help abscond with the unwilling lady and ensure a clean getaway.

Gee, these shenanigans make me happy to be a twenty-first century woman.

3. In this same vein of thought, traditionally the bride stands to the grooms left. This was much more than simple ritual. During Roman times, the groom had to keep his sword arm free to fight off any objectors during the ceremony. So literally, he was trying to get through the hand-fasting ritual while beating the other guys down. Sometimes it was the bride’s family, trying to reclaim her.

I have two words for an unwilling bride—hidden dagger. Nuff said.

4. Originally the bridal veil symbolized virginity and innocence. Back in Roman times the material covered the woman from head to toe, which would later be used as her burial shroud. Wow, talk about recycle, reuse. In some cultures, the veil was worn to completely hide the bride's face from the groom, who had never seen her. Only after they were married, would the groom be allowed to lift the veil to see his new wife's face.

Talk about a gambling man.

5. Centuries ago most people got married in June because everybody had just taken their yearly bath in May, and didn’t stink too badly yet. Still, the bride carried a bouquet to mask what odors were already apparent.

I can’t even work up a comment for this. I keep gagging.

6. So the next five facts are some percentages I came across. 86% of brides do the whole “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” thing when they get married.

7. 66% of brides want their bridesmaid to wear matching dress. And ugly ones from my personal experience.

8. 59% of brides use Pinterest to plan their weddings

9. 18% of brides buy their dress online. (Raises hand. $110 on Ebay)

10. 95 % of brides do NOT want the bridesmaid’s wearing white. I’m curious about this other 5%. Gotta wonder if they thought that survey question through.

I could go on with this fun game forever because my trivia list is that long, but I’m going to wind it up here. If you’re planning on getting married soon, you best get over to Pinterest and start pinning. If not, then check out my new release, Random Acts of Marriage, and live vicariously through Kinni. 100% of the fun—0% of the cost and headaches.

A wedding. A playboy. And a week he’ll make sure she never forgets.

Kinni Corbet is the perfect bridesmaid. She’s efficient and has a to-do list for every occasion. When the bride-to-be adds “relax and have some fun” to Kinni’s schedule, Price Lyons seems to tick all the right boxes. He’s guaranteed fun, and it’s only for one week—what can it hurt?

Playboy hotel owner Price Lyons has wanted to break down Kinni’s walls for years. Her plan to relax for a whole week is the perfect opportunity to get to the one person he’s never been able to charm. And this time, she seems…receptive to his advances. Unexpected, but he’ll take it.

There’s just one problem. Kinni’s allergic to spontaneity, and the only thing predictable about Price is his unpredictably. There’s no way they’ll last beyond the week, and Kinni’s going to make sure of it…
