Fall into Romance Event with Amanda Ashby

Amanda Ashby was born in Australia but now lives in New Zealand where she writes romance, young adult and middle grade books. She also works in a library, owns far too many vintage tablecloths and likes to delight her family by constantly rearranging the furniture.

She has a degree in English and Journalism from the University of Queensland and is married with two children. Her debut book was nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award, and her first young adult book was listed in the New York Public Library Stuff for the Teen Age. Because she’s mysterious she also writes middle grade books under the name, Catherine Holt and hopes that all this writing won’t interfere with her Netflix schedule.

ARC Review: Dating The Guy Upstairs by Amanda Ashby

This is a perfectly, absolutley decent book in a totally unremarkable way. This is a friends to lovers/pretend to real romance novel. The writing is pretty good the characters are reasonably interesting and the plot is ok. On the scale of 1-10, this book is oatmeal with raisins.

Riley has been Will's reliable best friend for two years. Riley has commitment issues because of the terrible decisions her Mom made. Riley s understanding of relationships is that they ruin your life. Will has commitment issues because he was betrayed in a pretty awful way by his former fiance. Will doesn't want to be harassed by his family about settling down so he gets Riley to pretend to be his girlfriend and blah blah blah, you know the rest.

There really isn't anything interesting I can tell you about this book. If you have read ANY book in this genre, you've read this one. In order for this book to rise above the point of being wholly indistinct, it needed SOMETHING. I kept waiting to see if there was going to be some big twist or a part of this book that made it stand out, but it never happened. I'm not saying this is a bad book, it isn't. This just isn't a book that you can remember if you put it down for 2 seconds. If you like the friends to lovers troupe, this is perfect but don't expect a revolution.
