ARC Review: Moonlight Scandals by Jennifer Armentrout

Jennifer L. Armentrout has been on my to-read list for a long time. By sheer luck I entered a giveaway and won all three of her books in the “de Vincent” Series. I have not read any of the books in the trilogy so I thumbed through them an decided I would be interested in starting with “Moonlight Scandals.” This is the last book in the series but I was completely intrigued by the story line. It goes without saying that Jennifer Armentrout is a very popular author and after reading this book, I can see why!

There were a few reasons I wanted to start with the last book in the trilogy. The de Vincent family is very famous in New Orleans for many different reasons. One is the spooky myths surrounding the family curse. Two is that they are a very wealthy family and major players in New Orleans. Three the very handsome de Vincent brothers. There are three brothers and all three get their book. The first book, “Moonlight Sins” is about the youngest brother Lucian. The second, “Moonlight Seduction” the second brother Gabriel. The last brother, Devlin; his book is Moonlight Scandals.”

I was intrigued by the third brother, Devlin who is also the oldest and is often to referred to as “the devil.” Devlin is known for being very mean and even his brothers have a difficult time connecting with him. Devlin is the oldest brother of the family and in many regards the head of the family. Rosie Herpin is a complete opposite to Devlin. She was madly in love with her high school sweetheart and has nursed a broken heart when he committed suicide. She lives a simple live, works, has a great group of friends and also studies paranormal activity. The de Vincent house is as spooky as it gets when it comes to paranormal activity. Rosie and Nicolette are friends ( Nicolette is the love interest of Gabriel in the second book) and through Nicolette Rosie meets the famous Devlin. To say that they clash is an understatement. Where Rosie experienced great love, Devlin has never been in love. Where Rosie is very warm and caring. Devlin is cold and cut off from practically everyone.Because this book is the last in the trilogy many secrets get revealed and even though I have not read the first two books, I didn’t feel lost and I also was completely absorbed in the story, the family and the hero and heroine. I loved Rosie and Devlin as a couple. They challenged each other and really made the pages sizzle! I loved the background storylines as well. Armentrout is a craftwoman with words. I couldn’t put the book down and can’t wait to dive into the first two books to read more about the de Vincents!

Feature: Moonlight Seduction by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel . . .

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up . . . and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman . . . one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with lingering scars from the past. Audiobook Review: Be With Me by J. Lynn, Narrated by Sophie Eastlake

Before I get started, I do have to make two comments. One, “Be with Me (Wait for You series)” by J. Lynn has received amazing reviews, it’s one of the reasons I wanted to hear the audiobook. Two, New Adult is not a genre that I generally love.

When I saw all the great reviews for this story I was immediately interested and I couldn’t wait to jump in. I often would listen to the audiobook while I was running and I have to say about 30% of the story I was interested.

Teresa Hamilton was an interesting heroine. She is college kid who is suffering a knee injury. This injury is a constant reminder to her that she is not able to live out her dream and become a dancer like she has always wanted. Aside from that she has always had a terrible crush on Jase Winstead.

Jase is her brothers best friend and also very popular with the girls. When Jase offers Teresa a ride to her class because of her knee she reluctantly agrees but at the same time is really happy to spend time with Jase. This part of the story was cute and I liked Teresa a lot. I have to confess that the voice that the narrator gave Jase irritated me to no end. She made him sound like a poor little rich boy who was bored with life. I had to drop the story and months later I pushed through with the hope that I would enjoy it better. I can’t express how disappointed I was when I was on chapter 22 and realized I still had ten more to hear. I skipped some parts just to get to the end.

For me, the New Adult genre is tough. It’s my experience that all the books are the same as “Beautiful Disaster” by Jaimie McGuire. All the heroines are typical plain Janes and they end up with the hot guy that everyone wants. Really. I have yet to read one New Adult and that not be the story line. My second huge issue with NA is that everything is so melodramatic. It could be a sign of my age, but everything is the end of the world. Everything is “I am only happy and ok, when I’m with such and such guy.” Also, whenever there is intimacy, both parties are always so overwhelmed that they can’t control themselves. It’s like verbatim. The only thing that kept me going was Jase’s big secret, which I have to give to the author-it was pretty big. I was more interested in said secret coming out and what it would be like. After Jase and Teresa are finally together they have to deal with her brother not accepting their relationship and then another subplot is introduced. I applaud the author for bringing up important issues like abusive relationships and really think she did a great job of explaining the fear and shame that people feel. Kudos to her for that. The last half of the book was a series of subplots and more drama. Needless to say this was not one of my favorite stories. It just might be my last New Adult ever.

The narrator did a great job with Theresa. I thought she really got her character but -again-everything was overly dramatic. I’m confident that both J.Lynn fans and New Adult fans will really enjoy this story and the narration, but for me, it was very long and tedious.

ARC Review: Dream of You by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Dream of You is a standalone novella in Jennifer L. Armentrout's (J. Lynn) Wait for You series. This novella features Reece's brother Colton Anders. Colton and Abby Erickson went to high school together, but haven't seen each other in years. But when Abby witnesses a horrible crime, she finds herself face to face with her Colton who she always had a crush on. But can Colton keep her safe from danger?

I really liked Abby and Colton. Colton was honest and sweet, and I loved him right from the start. He was great with Abby, and I liked that he had always had a thing for her. She never knew how he felt, and it was nice to see a guy be interested in someone that wasn't always perfect and put together. Abby had experienced a lot of loss, and I felt bad for her. She also had issues with self esteem, and I thought that Colton was exactly what she needed. These two had a lot of chemistry and I really enjoyed them together.

My biggest complaint with this book is length. I wish that we had been given more of these two because it seemed a bit rushed to me. There were several things that I felt could have been expanded, and I wish that they hadn't been so quickly dealt with. Though it was easy to see Abby and Colton had a connection and chemistry, I would have liked to have seen their relationship really develop. It all happened pretty fast and I felt like we missed out on seeing a lot of it happen. I enjoyed their story though, and I think it was a good addition to this series. I will definitely read more from JLA in the future, and I hope that we might get to see more of these two as the series continues.

ARC Review: Fall with Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Fall with Me is book four in the Wait for Me series by Jennifer L. Armentrout (J.Lynn). Each book in this series can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading these in order if you can. Not only are they great stories, but you get to see how each of the couples gets together without things being spoiled by skipping their books. I have to admit that I was a little scared to read this book. Stay with Me wasn't my favorite in this series, and I was really hoping that it was just a fluke with that book. While I did like Fall with Me better, I do have to say that I still had some issues with this book.

Roxy and Reece grew up next door to one another, and Roxy has been in love with Reece since she was fifteen. Nothing had ever happened between them though until eleven months ago. Since then they hardly speak to one another and Roxy tries to avoid him at all costs. When Roxy starts having weird things happen to her, she thinks that the person responsible is the same person that forever changed the life of her best friend Charlie. But when Reece gets involved in the case, he isn't convinced it is the same person. In order to keep Roxy safe, Reece convinces Roxy to stay at his place. But can Reece get to the bottom of what is happening before it's too late? And can he and Roxy put the past behind them and have a chance at something together?

I liked Roxy and Reece together. These two had a lot of chemistry, and I liked that they also had a history of friendship. Though they had messed things up eleven months ago, before that they had always been close. I liked that Reece was such a straight forward guy. He didn't play games and he was always looking out for Roxy, even when they had their issues. He was alpha without being a total jerk, and I liked that he was a bit cocky but still easy to relate to. Roxy was a bit different for me. I liked things about her, but there were also things about her that drove me nuts. I loved her loyalty and how committed to her friendships she was. She never gave up on her best friend Charlie, and she always tried to do right by him and put on a brave face for him even when it was hard for her. But then at times she really annoyed me by doing absolutely stupid things. I also felt like she was almost completely to blame for the situation with Reece. While I understand why she felt some of what she did, I felt like she should have just been honest with him and talked things out. These two could have easily cleared up so much of their problem by having a single conversation. I hate misunderstandings like the one they had, especially when they were both suffering because of it. These two liked one another and yet they couldn't even talk to each other. It just felt crazy when they had enough drama elsewhere.

I have to say that while I liked this book better than Stay with Me, I still wasn't entirely invested in the story. I think these last few books have just been missing what I had loved so much about Jase and Cam's stories. Those books were so fantastic, and I loved every bit of them. They were emotional and sweet, and yet were funny and entertaining. I think part of my issues with these last two books is the fact that this series has taken a turn into a different genre, and they are a little bit more of a suspense read than what I would consider a NA read. I'm just not feeling the suspense aspect, and I think that the relationship and romance is getting a bit lost in these books. These last two books just don't have the same feel as the first few books did, and I think that I had been expecting them to be similar to those. While I love JLA's writing style and how unique her characters and stories are, this book just wasn't all that I had been hoping for. I had a tough time rating this one because of my mixed feelings, and I would say that this is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star read for me. I know that I will read more from JLA in the future, I think I just need to accept that this series has taken a different direction and stop expecting it to be like the first few books were. It was nice to see familiar faces though, and am always really glad when we are given glimpses into the HEA's of previous characters.

ARC Review: Stay with Me by J. Lynn

I have been a fan of J. Lynn's since I first read about Cam and his cookies in Wait for You, so I absolutely couldn't wait to read her newest installment in the Wait for You series. That being said, this one didn't feel the same to me, and while I liked it I didn't love it. Before going into Stay with Me, I knew that it was Calla's story. I had thought that this was Calla and Brandon's story though, so I will admit I was shocked when it ended up being about Calla and Jax. While I loved Jax, I just had a hard time getting past the shock of him not being Brandon.

Calla has grown used to supporting herself and being independent after her past. She lost everything after a tragedy occurred, with her father leaving and her mother turning to drugs. When Calla discovers that her mother stole her tuition money and savings as well as opened up a ton of credit cards in her name, she returns home looking for help and answers. She gets a job working at the bar her mother owns. There she meets the sexy bartender Jax, and they quickly hit it off. Calla doesn't understand how he can possibly be interested in her though, and does everything she can to push him away. Jax is determined to show her that his feelings are real though, and he will do whatever it takes to get her to take a chance on him. But when secrets are revealed and things get dangerous for Calla, can they possibly find a way to make things safe for her in order to have a chance at anything together?

I liked Jax and I thought that he was good for Calla. He liked her for who she was and not her outside appearance. He was sweet and protective of her, and I loved that he never gave up on her. I will say that I didn't like how he handled things with Aimee at all. I thought that while he didn't encourage her actions, he also didn't do much to make things clear to her either. Then when Calla told him how it made her feel, he pretty much said that it was Calla's fault for getting upset because she wasn't experienced with having relationships. As much as I liked him that bothered me. Calla was strong and had been through a lot, but I did feel that she acted immaturely at times. She was young and it really showed throughout this story. I feel like these two had chemistry between them and you could tell that they liked each other a lot. But I didn't really feel the connection between them like I did with the previous couples in this series. I also felt like I personally wasn't able to connect with them like I had with the others.

This book didn't hold my interest like the other stories in this series did, and I think part of that was due to the plot of this one. We hardly saw the characters that we have come to know and love, and most of this story was dealing with new and different characters, as well as more suspense due to the drugs and Calla's mother. I just wasn't focused on this book like I normally am, and I found this one easy to put down and walk away from unlike J. Lynn's other stories. I'm not sure if it was just me, or if this one was just too different and removed from the rest of this series but I just couldn't get into this one the same as I usually do. I also think that since I expected this one to be about Brandon and Calla that I was just already started off feeling as though this book wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for. I love J. Lynn's writing style and her stories, but this one wasn't my favorite of hers.

ARC Review: Be With Me by J. Lynn

I have become a huge fan of Jennifer's books and writing style. I know going into each one that I am going to love it because she absolutely never disappoints! I really love this series and all the characters. I will admit that I have been anxiously awaiting this one since I read the last words in the previous books, and I could not wait to get my hands on Jase and Tess's story. I just knew that I was going to really love Jase, and I was not wrong. This book is a great addition to this series, and I really think this series is shaping up to be one of the best that I have ever read. I know that I will go back and reread these books over and over again. Even though this book is the second in the series, it can be read as a standalone. The characters are linked from the previous book, but you do not have to have read the first one in order to understand anything.

Teresa is adjusting to college life after an injury forces her to take a break from dancing. She enrolled at the same college that her brother Cam attends and chose to major in elementary education. College is still her Plan B, and she fully intends to return to dancing after she heals. One thing that she is looking forward to though is being at the same school as her brother's best friend Jase. After sharing a passionate kiss a year ago, she is pretty sure that she is in love with him. But being Cam's little sister and having been in a terrible relationship in the past, Jase is convinced that he should steer clear of her. Jase also has a complicated past when it comes to relationships, and believes that Tess deserves more than he can offer her. But after Jase starts offering help to Teresa and they begin to spend time together, the more their connection grows. Soon they are unable to fight what is between them and begin seeing each other. But with Jase having secrets and more responsibilities than anyone knows about, as well as Teresa's uncertain future, can they possibly have a future together?

I really loved Jase. He is sexy and sweet and deeper than you would ever think at first glance. The way that Jase treated Tess was really caring and thoughtful. I loved that he would bring her cupcakes and that he treated her like she was special. He really opened up to her unlike he did with anyone else, and it really showed that he was wanting her to be more than just another girl. I wasn't sure if I would love his character as much as I had loved Cam, but I really ended up loving him just as much but in a completely different way. Teresa/Tess was also really great. I loved that she was such a kind person, and even though she had gone through so much she remained more positive than could be expected. She had her moments that she was upset and vulnerable, but she was determined to get through everything and live the life that she had been dealt. I thought that she was really patient and understanding. Tess and Jase were really perfect for each other, and they just had this natural fit. They had a ton of chemistry and attraction, but they also had such a strong emotional connection. I loved watching them as they figured their feelings out, and really helped each other to heal and grow. They were exactly what the other needed.

Overall, this one is definitely a new favorite of mine and I really enjoyed reading about Jase and Tess. If you haven't read any books in this series yet, you are really missing out. These books have everything that you could ask for in a great book, and I really think that these are books that any romance fan will enjoy. They are written extremely well and are not only sweet and sexy, but also funny and emotional. Jennifer has a way of writing couples that have a realness to them that is so believable that you just get lost in the story. I always plan to read these slow and savor them because I know they will be amazing, but soon after starting them I just get so invested that I can't stop until the entire thing is devoured! At this point J. Lynn/Jennifer Armentrout is one of my favorites, and I know that whatever she writes I am going to really enjoy. I cannot wait to get more in this series and see where she takes the rest of the characters.

ARC Review: Trust In Me by J. Lynn

Trust In Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn is a novella in her Wait For You series. This short novella is Wait For You from Cam's perspective. We get to be inside his head and experiencing things as he did which I was extremely excited for! Not only do we get to go back and see many of the most memorable moments from Wait For You, but we also get to see some things that we never have before. I really loved Wait For You and I was really sad when it was over because I wasn't ready to be done with Cam and Avery. Trust In Me was the perfect extra bit of them that I had wished for and my only complaint was that I still wanted more of them. When it comes to Cam and Avery and the rest of the characters from this series, I am extremely greedy! I always want more because they are such fantastic characters!

Cam has never had a problem getting what he wants, especially when it comes to girls. But the moment he meets Avery, when she literally crashes into him, things are different. He is drawn to her like no other girl he has ever met and their mutual attraction is instant. But it is clear from the start that Avery has secrets about her past that she isn't willing to share, and she isn't about to jump into a relationship with anyone, even Cam. But Cam isn't willing to give up easily, especially when it comes to Avery. As their friendship grows, so do their feelings and Cam knows its only a matter of time before she agrees to go out on a date with him. Can Cam convince Avery to give him a shot and open herself up enough to trust him? Or will her secrets and past continue to stand in the way of a relationship between them?

I honestly didn't think it was possible to love Cam any more than I already did, but I was completely wrong. Everything about him that I loved so much from Wait For You was just that much better in Trust In Me. We get to see his thoughts and feelings, and I really loved seeing some of my favorite moments through his eyes. It was such an interesting way of adding more to this series, because you might be experiencing the same events but the feelings and thoughts are completely different. I loved seeing how Cam felt about Avery and how his feelings for her grew and changed from their first meeting on. It was great to see Avery as he saw her and I thought it was really cute how much he really cared for her. Cam is such a great guy. He is just so genuine and real, and he is exactly the type of hero that is so easy for readers to fall in love with. I loved that he wasn't dark and angsty and he definitely wasn't a hardcore alpha which I found to be really refreshing. I love that he is charming and funny and sweet. He was also extremely patient with Avery and I loved how nice he was to her because that is just who he is.

Not only was it nice to see Cam's side of his relationship with Avery, but it was also really great to see him interact with some of his friends and family. It really allowed us as readers to get to know him better and see the depth of his character. He is a great boyfriend, but also a great friend, son and brother and I loved seeing more of him in all aspects of his life. Overall, this book was really great and I think it adds so much to this series! We really got to know Cam and Avery better, but we also got to know some of the secondary characters better as well and I think that this book did a great job of helping to set up the rest of the series. I absolutely cannot wait to get Jase and Teresa's story next, and I'm also looking forward to more Ollie! These characters are absolutely amazing and J. Lynn is a fabulous writer. She is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and I'm excited to read more from her in the future. If you haven't read this series yet, you are seriously missing out on some wonderful stories. I highly recommend that you check these out, as J.Lynn definitely does not disappoint and you won't be able to put these down once you start reading. This series is cute as well as sexy with just the perfect balance of sweet and steamy moments.
