ARC Review: Shade's Lady by Joanna Wylde

Ok, so I'm a crazy nutso Joanna Wylde and the Reapers MC romance series fan. I've read every book from this series and probably every other book from this author. So my 5 stars is a little biased. I'm inclined to love just about anything in this series and I was not disappointed with Shade's Lady. The other thing I want to say is that this is a novella done right! There are so many authors out here writing "novellas" that are really just unfinished chapters in books. And that annoys the hell out of me. A novella is a complete story with action, conflict and resolution. This book had it all and the author got it done in a few pages.

Shade is the National President of the Reapers MC. Mandy has been working at the local MC bar and dating one of the super douchey members of one of the riding clubs (so not a real MC). Mandy does not intend for her "relationship" with Rebel to be anything serious. Mandy also doesn't intend for stupid butt Rebel to try to trade her to Shade for a bike. I won't give away the details but needless to say, neither Mandy nor Shade were happy when they found out what the deal was. Shade is everything I love about Joanna Wylde heroes. Shade is super alpha, bossy, fearless and possessive without being clingy or weird. I liked Mandy too. Mandy was gutsy and didn't mind getting her hands dirty when the occasion called for it.

I appreciated the fact that Mandy was in town to help her sister. I have a sister and I'm always down to see sister love and bonding. I didn't really understand why it didn't occur to Mandy to tell Shade first when her and her sister were in trouble but it worked out. Mandy was stuck on this whole thing about how she couldn't be with someone like Shade. He was the opposite of the stability that she was hoping for and starting a relationship with someone who had to travel all the time just didn't seem like a good idea to her. Look, this was a novella, so we didn't have much time. I really needed Mandy to move through her issues a bit quicker. The only other minor criticism I have of this book is that I would have liked to see more chapters from Shade's POV. There were a few chapters but most of the book is told from Mandy's POV.

You know you can count on Wylde for some Wild sex. Ha! That was good LJ! Whatever, this is a great novella. If you're an MC fan, a Wylde fan or just looking for something quick and fun, give this a try.

Feature: Shade's Lady by Joanna Wylde

New York Times bestselling author Joanna Wylde returns to the world of the Reapers Motorcycle Club…

Looking back, none of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t dropped my phone in the toilet. I mean, I could’ve walked away from him if I’d had it with me.

Or maybe not.

Maybe it was all over the first time he saw me, and he would’ve found another way. Probably—if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that Shade always gets what he wants, and apparently he wanted me.

Right from the first.

ARC Review: Reaper's Fire by Joanna Wylde

This is probably going to be more of fangirl letter to Joanna Wylde than a review, but I don’t care. Joanna Wylde outdid herself! I’ve read all her MC books: Reapers and Silver Valley. Wylde not only really knows her craft but seems to really know the MC world. I’ve read so many other MC books and they do not compare to Wylde’s research. She brings the MC world to life and seems to really know the rules that it abides by and stays true to it.

Finally, we get Gage. I feel like we have been waiting for Gage forever!! Gage has been in the previous Reaper’s books and I always enjoyed any little tidbit that Wylde gave us in the previous books. Gage is Picnic, the Reaper’s President, right hand man. He is a great strong and sturdy character all throughout and even in “Reaper’s Fire. Gage has always put the club first, it is his heart and soul. When he takes on a special “assignment” he has to travel to Hallies Falls to deal with another MC club that is not abiding by the rules of the MC world. Gage changes his name to Cooper and is visiting under the guise that he is a divorced man with two children. He sees an ad for a handy man posted by Tinker. Tinker and Gage have instant chemistry. They have a very strong attraction to each other but they both have many complications that they need to overcome first.

Tinker is fantastic. I loved her so much. She is tough but also very pure of heart and vulnerable. She has been kicked down by life a few times and is trying to find herself again. She is in the middle of a divorce and has moved back to Hallies Falls to take care of her father. Her mother has recently passed away and her father’s health is a major concern also. Tinker is happy to be back home but has a lot to deal with. One of those issues is that “Cooper” and her can’t fight their attraction to each other. Another complication is that he has a girlfriend. As the reader we know the real reason that “Cooper” has this girlfriend-all MC business and loyalty-but Tinker is not privy to this so it complicates her feelings for Cooper.

There are many levels to this story. One is Gage/Cooper’s dedication to his brothers in the MC club. It is admirable and it ultimately pays off but it comes with great sacrifice. Second, the development of both Gage and Cooper was so rewarding to see. Both of them develop and grow as the story progresses. I really loved them both individually and as a couple. As a couple Tinker and Gage have many obstacles to overcome: their pasts, their present and ultimately-their future. Wylde gives us some great secondary characters that had me laughing-out-loud and I loved them! She also gives us some insight into what the future will look like for not only Tinker and Gage but the future of the Club as well. I have to add any time Picnic makes an appearance I just love him more and more. For me, this was another great read by Wylde:full of adventure, passion, laugh-out-loud moments and MC violence. Now… counting down until the next Reaper’s book!

ARC Review: Reaper's Fall by Joanna Wylde

“Reaper’s Fall” does not disappoint. First, before I even start with my review, I have to say-No one does MC like Joanna Wylde. I’ve tried to read other authors that also write about MC and there is no competition. One huge element that sets Joanan Wylde apart is , I believe, Wylde knows the MC culture and is able to appreciate it while at the same time not hiding the raw truth behind it.

This is the fifth book in the Reaper’s series, if anyone has not read the previous book, call out sick, take a vacation, but just read them all. This is easily a standalone but the entire series is an experience. “The Reaper’s Stand” (Picinic and London’s story) is my all-time favorite book in the series. I’ve read it, re-read it and heard it on audiobook countless times. I love it! “Reaper’s Fall” comes in second. Which is saying a lot because the other books in the series are so good.

So I’m going to tiptoe around this review because there are so many goodies, I don’t want to give too much away. But this is Painter and Melanie’s story. Painter is a part of The Reapers Motorcycle club. He was also the biker that Em, Picnic’s daughter, had a huge crush on and was in love in the previous books. I have to confess, after Picnic, Painter is my favorite biker! I absolutely loved him. Apparently Em and her sister hate him but the reality is that Painter is his own person. Yes, he does some very questionable and just plain dumb things. But he was such an awesome guy. He takes care of Melanie when she appears in London and Picnic’s story. Melanie is Jessica’s best friend. Jessica is London’s “daughter”. I’ll get to Jessica in a bit. Melanie comes from a broken home and she is all alone, London takes her in and she becomes Mel’s mom. Due to her relationship to Picnic, the president of the Reapers, Melanie meets Painter. They both instantly fall for each other but Painter has a lot of growing up to do.

It’s hard to talk about everything that happens, because a lot happens. But I will say this. Melanie and Painter grow into their relationship. The book covers a span of a few years from the time they meet until they are finally together. Besides falling completely in love with Painter, I equally loved Melanie. Melanie is serious, studious, and hardworking and just wants someone to love her. She writes to Painter when he is thrown into prison and is a loyal friend to Jessica. I especially loved that Wylde kept Melaine true to herself. Even though she faced a surprising circumstance she continued to keep her head up and eventually became an ER nurse. I also really loved that Melanie voiced concerns about Painter and his lifestyle. I really liked that Wylde didn’t sugarcoat the MC lifestyle but also high lightened the extreme brotherhood of the bikers. I especially loved Puck and Painter’s friendship. Even though they belong to different motorcycle clubs, they are brothers.

Big secrets, I mean BIG secrets are revealed. New characters are introduced. These characters are all essential. I especially have my eye on “Cooper” and Taz. Jessica is such a perplexing character. Just when I thought she was making a change she falls into her old ways but I still wanted to know how Wylde would take her story. I do have to confess I struggled between wanting to binge on the book and sitting back and enjoying it- did both. Wylde’s stories are always action-packed, full of adrenaline and violence. I did squirm in a few scenes but there was not one boring moment. I loved that Picnic and London continue to play a big role in Melanie’s life and I’m hooked with the new characters and what she plans to do with them.

Review: Devil's Game by Joanna Wylde

As I continue my Reapers Binge, “Devil’s Game” was a change of pace and storyline. Where the previous books I read were about The Reapers, this is about Em, Picnic-The Reapers President’s daughter. Because Em is a young woman many of the topics covered here were not as intense as the previous books I read.

Em is the daughter of Picnic. She is sweet, kind and very innocent. Her father goes above and beyond to make sure that no one messes with his daughter. That doesn’t make Em too happy since men are afraid of her father. She meets Liam “Hunter” Blake” online and they start to chat. They become friends and they decide to meet.

Hunter was a really interesting hero. He is a Devil’s Jack, sworn enemies of The Reapers. Hunter had a very rough life and he grew up with the Devil’s Jack and they became his only family. He has undying loyalty to them as Em does to The Reapers. Liam wasn’t as horrible as the hero’s in the previous books. He was more confused and uncertain, since him and Em are relatively young they deal with different types of issues.

I really enjoyed “Devil’s Game.” Just like the previous books I read, I could not put this book down! Em was such a fantastic heroine. She was so likeable, yet young and naïve. Liam was also very sweet he genuinely cared for Em and fought to be with her.

I have one more book to read in “The Reapers” series and then my life can continue as before, I became so obsessed with this series that I pushed all my other reading aside. Since this is my third book by Joanna Wylde, I can say with 100% certainty-she does not disappoint!

Review: Reaper's Legacy by Joanna Wylde

As I continue my Reaper’s binge, I jumped into Reaper’s Legacy, the second book in the series. Just like the Reaper’s Stand, this book focuses on The Motorcycle Club, The Reapers. The main characters of this book are Sophie and Regar.

When the story begins Sophie is losing her virginity to Zach Barrett, her boyfriend and Regar’s step-brother. Regar walks in on them and Sophie is mortified. Zach turns out to be a deadbeat. Regar however fills in for Zach. When Sophie finds out she is pregnant it’s Regar who steps in and helps her with Noah, her son. Although Regar has very strong feelings for Sophie he realizes the complexity of the situation.

The story fast forwards eight years ahead and Sophie is living on her own with Noah outside of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. When her son finds himself in trouble he calls Uncle Regar that has always been there for him. Regar jumps on his bike with his friend Horse and they run to rescue Noah. When Regar sees how Sophie and Noah are living he tells Sophie that they are going to live with him.

So Sophie, I wasn’t really crazy about her. I wanted to like her more than I actually did. She really seemed so clueless all time. It was like she could not make a decision for herself to save her or her sons life. Regar was also not a fantastic hero. He was pretty awful, except for his never-ending devotion to Sophie and Noah. Although Regar doesn’t know how to handle his feelings for Sophie he is always ready to be there for Noah.

When Sophie and Regar finally give into their feelings for one another Sophie tells Regar that she wants complete devotion, in other words he can’t be with other women, he tells her… He won’t bring any women home!!!!??? I know!!!??? This is why I’m addicted to these books, THEY ARE CRAZY! So Sophie isn’t having it and I actually applauded her for once doing something that was not dimwitted.

Sophie and Regar are both so infuriating. They are both so complex and both made me want to scream with frustration, but I could not put this book down! Just like in The Reaper’s Stand, which I heard on audio, there is a lot of drama, and violence and vulgar language. Nonetheless, I’m continuing my Reaper’s Binge and my next book is “The Devil’s Game, which is Em and Liam “Hunters” story.

Audiobook Review: Reaper's Stand by Joanna Wylde, Narrated by Tatiana Sokolov and Sean Crisden

Two Words: Wow and amazing! I can’t even begin with this story! Joanna Wylde is a ridiculous storyteller! First! Wow! I usually stay away from books with a lot of vulgarity but I might make an exception for Joanna Wylde. I thought, ok I’m going to read a romantic story! I obviously had no idea!

I know that this is the fourth book in the Reapers MC series. Never heard of this series before so I had no idea what to expect. Let’s just say that after this audiobook I checked out every single one in the Reapers series!

Let’s start with our “hero.” Reese “Picnic” Hayes. Reese was so complex. He was such a jerk at times that I couldn’t stomach him and then he was also the voice of reason. Reese is the president of the Reapers Motorcycle club. Reese is a really tough guy. He is vulgar and a womanizer. He is “involved” with a woman in practically every scene. It’s hard to imagine that this vulgar, womanizing man would be loyal and protective to those around him without any limits. He never let his loved ones down and he was very vulnerable, which was completely unexpected.

London Armstrong was just like her name. She was one tough lady! London is the exact opposite of Reese. She is a quiet, hard-working, humble woman. She is just working to take care of her cousin’s daughter that is her ward-Jessica. Jessica is a mess and she kept going from one terrible situation to the next. There were times when I was screaming at London to give up on her!

One night London gets a call that Jessica is in trouble and that she is at the Reaper’s Club. London rushes over and needs Reese’s help. From that moment forward they can’t stay out of each other’s way. So granted, Reese and London had AMAZING chemistry. Their differences really made for great chemistry. They also had the funniest and wittiest conversations! I caught myself laughing continually with them! If this were a book instead of an audio, I would have had chunks of their conversations highlighted.

So yes, I knew Reese and London were a great couple BUT I did not anticipate the rest: cutoff fingers, houses blowing up, drug cartels, hostages. I was on the edge of my seat continuously. This was a none-stop- action book. The characters were all so fascinating. I’m reading all the previous books in the series. To hook us even further, the author gave us a glimpse to some of the stories that are coming up: Painter and Melanie and Jess and her mystery man. I’m hooked!

The narrators were fantastic! They really added to the story and both narrated the characters perfectly. Their witty scenes really made for interesting audio!
