ARC Review: His Royal Favorite by Lilah Pace

His Royal Favorite is the second book in the His Royal Secret series by Lilah Pace. This book is not a standalone, and picks up after the events of His Royal Secret. If you haven't read that book yet, you will want to start there before proceeding. His Royal Secret ended with a HFN ending, though there was a cliffhanger. I was really looking forward to getting more of James and Ben and couldn't wait to see how things would play out for these two. 

James, the Prince of Wales, has decided to let the world know about his relationship with Ben and come clean about being gay. Though Ben and James are in love and ready for the future, James and Ben both worry about how that will change both of their lives. But after the world finds out, things begin to implode as Ben's past is put on spotlight and James' sister's health begins to decline. Can Ben and James prove that love conquers all, or will there be too many things standing in their way despite the love they have found in each other? 

I was so happy to see that James was going to come out and that Ben was there to stand beside him. Their love felt strong in the first book and yet neither of them had ever expected to be with each other in the long run. I knew they would have many difficulties ahead of them, and that was definitely true here. Part of that was both of them struggling with their new circumstances, with Ben's whole life altered drastically. I felt for him and all that he was going through, but I will admit that it was frustrating at times to see both of them questioning each other and their future. While their connection and chemistry were still very real, it felt like something was missing and that these two were going through the motions at times. I wanted to see them on solid ground and finding their footing together, but their relationship just felt off kilter through much of this book.

I also felt like this book suffered a bit like the first one did in that the pacing was a bit slow and had a tendency to drag at times. I think that again we got more of the mundane details than were needed, and after reading this book I really feel that this one would have been better off as a single novel rather than a duet. The overall story was good and I liked the characters, but I do think that this could have been a lot shorter and condensed for a much more solid story. I still think that these books are worth the read, especially if you are a fan of contemporary M/M romance. This series didn't have quite the same spark that Lilah's first series did though, so while I enjoyed it I didn't love it. James and Ben were great together though, and I was happy about how things turned out here.

ARC Review: His Royal Secret by Lilah Pace

I loved Lilah Pace's debut series, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on His Royal Secret when I first heard about it. I was really excited to get a M/M story from Lilah, and I think that this book was a good start to the series. I am looking forward to reading the next one and seeing what Lilah has in store for us next. 

James, the Prince of Wales, has long accepted his fate and what it means for the life he must lead. But as a gay man, he fears constantly that the world will find out who he really is. For 10 years his best friend Cassandra has been his beard, though they constantly find themselves the subject of tabloid fodder. But when James meets Ben while on holiday, his world begins to change. Especially after Ben ends up moving to London, and the two find themselves unable to fight the attraction between them. But when their casual fling becomes more, both Ben and James will have to look at their lives and decide what they want for the future.

I really liked Ben and James here. They had great chemistry together, and I loved that they also were building a great connection. These two were able to talk about so much with one another, and you could see that they were really getting to know one another more than anyone else knew them. James was loyal to his family and his duty as a royal, yet he also wanted more and was tired of hiding who he really was from the world. Caught up in years of pretending, my heart broke for him and all that he had been through. Ben had his moments where he aggravated me here, yet I also really liked him with James. I thought that these two were a great match for each other, and my favorite parts of this book were when it was just the two of them and they were able to be themselves. 

I will say that a lot of this book was very slow going for me though, and there were several parts that seemed to really drag. Part of that was the fact that while we did get scenes of Ben and James together, we also got a lot of other stuff that didn't always seem to matter. There wasn't a lot happening, and I think that some of the mundane daily details could have been done without here. This one just overall didn't seem to have the same spark as Lilah's first series. For the forbidden storyline that should have been exciting from start to finish, this one felt a bit flat at times. I am hoping that the next book gives us a bit more of that spark that this one was missing after where we left off here. While this book does end on a happy note, there is a cliffhanger and James and Ben's story is far from over. I am really looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for them, and I trust that Lilah Pace will give these guys the ending they deserve. I do like a lot of the secondary characters here and would love to see more of them as well. While I did have some issues here, overall this book was good and I am looking forward to continuing the series.

ARC Review: Asking For More by Lilah Pace

Asking for More is the third story in the Asking for It series by Lilah Pace. This novella continues Jonah and Vivienne's story and should be read in order. While it was nice to get more of these characters, this novella was very short at just five chapters, and honestly I am not really sure what the point was here. While I have loved this series and was excited for more of the characters, there wasn't really much progress here or that happened besides a rehash of the previous books and more of the same when it came to Jonah and his issues. 

This novella starts out with Jonah and Vivenne together and continuing their play. They have both embraced their desires, even if they don't like it. After a play session Vivienne gets hurt and Jonah blames himself. Then he receives a call from his sister and finds out that she has trouble of her own. So Jonah and Vivienne head to South America to be there for her. While Jonah and Vivienne continue to deal with their pasts, Vivienne must also wonder if Jonah will ever be able to leave it all behind in order to have a future with her. 

While it was good to see Jonah and Vivienne, as well as the secondary characters, I just felt like this story was nothing but what we have already seen. We got a rehash of everything that these two had been through, and everything new that came up seemed to be a repeat of the issues that they already had. It just didn't seem like there was enough to warrant another story here, and honestly I was really disappointed after reading this one. While there were some hot encounters between these two, it just wasn't necessary and I wish that Lilah Pace would have quit while she was ahead. I highly recommend this series if you can keep an open mind and go into it knowing that this series does deal with rape fantasy. I know it won't be for everyone, but Lilah Pace is a great writer and these two are seriously hot together. But I wouldn't recommend this one at the $1.99 price it is being sold at, when there wasn't really a point here.

ARC Review: Asking For It by Lilah Pace

Wow! This book was unlike anything I have read before, and I could not put this one down! I intended to start this book before bed and finish the next day, but I ended up reading way past my bedtime because I just couldn't get enough. I will start by saying that anyone thinking of reading this book needs to read the blurb and the warning from Lilah Pace and make sure that you take it seriously. Asking For It is not for the faint of heart, and if you have any issues or triggers with rape or rape fantasy this book probably isn't for you as both characters in this story share the same fantasy and have pasts that deal with the subject. This book is a great read though, and I highly recommend it if you are willing to go a little bit outside of your comfort zone because this story definitely pushes some boundaries. 

Vivienne Charles is ashamed of her desires, and knows that what she thinks about isn't normal. She finally got the courage up to tell her ex-boyfriend what she wanted, but he couldn't give her what she needed. When she meets the sexy and mysterious Jonah Marks, she learns that they share the same fantasy. Jonah and Vivienne come to an agreement that they will have sex in which they play out their rape fantasies with the sex always being consensual and always discussing their limits before hand. The sex between them is amazing and more than they ever experienced with anyone else, but soon they start to feel more for one another than they should. Just when they both begin to think that they have a chance at a future together, their pasts resurface and threaten everything that they are building. 

I worried that I wouldn't be able to connect with these characters, but that wasn't the case at all! I liked both of them and I found myself being able to relate to them. Lilah Pace did a great job of really showing the vulnerability of each Jonah and Vivienne, and I was really surprised with how likable and real these characters felt. Both Jonah and Vivienne were clearly struggling with pasts that still had a huge effect on them, and I found them very interesting. We get to know Vivienne more than Jonah in this book, and her past becomes very clear over the course of the book. But it isn't until the end that we really start to get to know Jonah. At first he comes off as unemotional and a bit cold, but the more we see him with Vivienne the more we get to know the man beneath. He was caring and always took care of Vivienne, and I loved that he was there whenever she needed him. These two have such an interesting dynamic between them, and the chemistry is off the charts. They are able to be open and share their desires without judgement, and I really liked seeing how things progressed for them.

Overall, this book was great! It was so much more than I had been expecting, and I honestly really enjoyed it even with the subject matter. Vivienne and Jonah were super hot together and I loved how sexy they were together. But I also really liked seeing them get to know one another, and find someone who understood them like no one else did. I will warn you that this book doesn't end on a huge cliffhanger, but things are unresolved at the end. The next book Begging For It is scheduled to release in September 2015, and it can't get here soon enough! Asking For It is a story that will not be for everyone, but I think if you keep an open mind and are willing to be taken a bit out of your comfort zone, is a book that a lot of readers will really like. I can't wait for more from Lilah Pace in the future!
