Feature and Giveaway: Too Wilde to Tame by Tonya Burrows

For three years, ballet teacher Natalie Taggart has lived across the hall from grumpy, reclusive, sexy Greer Wilde. Save for a handful of hellos and the occasional heated glance, they never spoke to each other.

Until the morning Greer lands on her doorstep, bleeding, beaten, and bullet-riddled.

Greer doesn’t need or want her help. He has only one goal: revenge. And nobody—not his brothers, and certainly not his too-hot-for-his-sanity next-door neighbor—is going to get in his way.

Surf, Sand & Books Event with Tonya Burrows

Tonya Burrows wrote her first romance in 8th grade and hasn't put down her pen since. Originally from a small town in Western New York, she’s currently soaking up the sun as a Florida girl. She suffers from a bad case of wanderlust and usually ends up moving someplace new every few years. Luckily, her two dogs and ginormous cat are excellent travel buddies.

When she's not writing about hunky military heroes, Tonya can be found at a bookstore or the dog park. She also enjoys painting, watching movies, and her daily barre workouts. A geek at heart, she pledges her TV fandom to Supernatural and Dr. Who.

Feature and Giveaway: Honor Reclaimed by Tonya Burrows

Former Marine scout sniper Seth Harlan is new to HORNET and anxious to prove he can still do his job despite an ongoing battle with PTSD. He remembers all too well what it's like to sit inside an enemy camp, praying for rescue and waiting for death. So when a black ops soldier contacts HORNET to rescue a buddy who was left behind, all sorts of nasty memories strain his newfound stability.

When an interview with a runaway Afghan child bride leads photojournalist Phoebe Leighton to an arms deal involving a suitcase bomb powerful enough to wipe out a mid-sized town, she realizes this is one battle she can't win on her own. Forming an unlikely alliance with a ragtag team of military and government delinquents, she meets Seth, a sniper carrying as many emotional scars as physical, who impresses her with his steely will and ignites passions within her she thought long dead.

Suddenly this mission is about a lot more than an abandoned soldier. Racing against the clock, Seth, Phoebe, and the rest of HORNET struggle to stop that bomb before it reaches it's final destination: The United States.

ARC Review: Honor Reclaimed by Tonya Burrows

It’s no secret that I love military heroes and will read most anything starring one... a finely honed physique, the ability to kill a handful of insurgents with a paperclip, and outstanding sense of Honor and duty—what’s not to like? And though I’d seen the great buzz surrounding Tonya Burrows’s debut, SEAL OF HONOR, which kicks off her military romantic suspense HORNET series, I hadn’t gotten around to reading it or its companion Wilde Security series. But after devouring HORNET #2, HONOR RECLAIMED, I’m getting caught up on Ms. Burrows’s backlist, stat! With HONOR RECLAIMED, Ms. Burrows delivers a compelling, multilayered story that is suspenseful, action-packed, sexy, humorous, and poignant at the same time and features two of the most emotionally complex and superbly written characters I have come across in a while. Both the action-packed plot and the characters’ complex emotional arc kept me glued to my Kindle and unable to put the book down until I was finished. [Sleep? Who needs sleep?]

The tortured hero isn’t usually my favourite, but Ms. Burrows’s Seth Harlan has made me a convert. As a Marine sniper, he spent fifteen months as a prisoner of war in Afghanistan before being rescued by a team of Navy SEALs. For the past two years, he has suffered from severe PTSD—paranoia, flashbacks, nightmares, panic—and the overwhelming guilt of being unable to save his team from being captured and tortured by terrorists and being the only one to survive. No longer apt for the military but not civilian either, he’s searching for a place to belong and thinks former SEAL Gabe Bristow’s ragtag private hostage rescue team, HORNET, could be it—if he didn’t keep flashing back to the past in the middle of training missions and getting his team ‘killed’. Convinced he’s getting axed from HORNET after the latest failed training mission, he instead gets the call to go wheels-up on an operation to rescue an Army Ranger deep undercover in Afghanistan who’s been captured by the Taliban. The rest of the HORNET team rags on Seth and doesn’t feel like he can have their backs in the field, but returning to the place where you were tortured for fifteen months takes a brass set of balls. It’s a testament to Seth’s great strength that he does it without a major meltdown and manages to face his demons to carry out the mission. Ms. Burrows does an excellent job portraying Seth’s anxiety and struggles to rise above the fear and guilt in a way that connects with the reader on a deep emotional level. I love it when a romance hero (especially a military one) can be badass and alpha but has a vulnerable edge that humanizes him, and Ms. Burrows nails it with Seth. I was rooting for him from the beginning

Heroine Phoebe Leighton plays a huge role in Seth’s growth as a character. A former tabloid reporter, she’s now freelance photojournalist and is in Afghanistan doing a story on a women’s shelter in Kabul started by an American relief worker. She has a pseudo-history with Seth, having written a sensationalist piece about him after his rescue for her tabloid that demolished his credibility, so when she thinks she spots him in a Kabul market, she follows him and ends up tangled in the HORNET mission. I absolutely loved Phoebe as a character: she’s feisty, smart, incredibly brave to do the things she does, committed to the cause of doing good with her journalism to atone for the fame-seeking tabloid reporter she used to be, and loyal to those she cares about. She’s also flawed, which makes her realistic and relatable: a bit overly naïve about the power of journalism (splashing a suspected terrorist’s plans on Page One does not your personal safety guarantee!), and afraid to ‘fess up to Seth about her role in his post-rescue public flaying for fear of ruining their budding romantic relationship, even when she knows the longer she remains silent, the worse the fallout will be. I especially liked how she saw Seth for who he truly is underneath the scars of his captivity and how she kept coaxing him out of his shell (even when he was being a complete asshat) and back toward the humanity he believes he lost. The two of them have explosive chemistry and a scorching attraction from the get-go, but their relationship is also sweet and touching on top of HOT. They’re one of my favourite couples.

In addition to two great protagonists, the ragtag group of operators that makes up the HORNET team—a gimpy Navy SEAL commander, an executive officer with a traumatic brain injury, a womanizing Cajun linguist, a boy-genius CIA analyst, a true-blue cowboy medic, a hostage negotiator with connections to the mob, and an asshole of an explosives expert—and their attempts to exist as a cohesive unit add an extra level of emotional complexity and some much-needed comic relief. Ms. Burrows writes excellent male banter (bromances in the making!) and does a great job integrating the other team members into the story so that they feel like three-dimensional characters rather than simple series fodder. I’m especially intrigued to learn the story behind Ian Reinhardt’s complete wankerdom.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed HONOR RECLAIMED and have discovered a new auto-buy author. If you like your romance equal parts hot suspenseful, and poignant, be sure to check it out!

ARC Review: Wilde for Her by Tonya Burrows

Eva Cardoso and Camden Wild have known each other for five years. They were both homicide detectives and partners. Camden decides to start a security business with his brothers, Wilde Security. The Wilde brothers all seem like your typical alpha, testosterone filled males.

Eva is not a pushover. She is tough and can hold her own. She had a very tough childhood. Her mother is an addict and was never very “mothering”. Although Eva has other siblings she is only has a relationship with her sister Shelby.

Although Eva and Camden are best friends and attracted to each other they never tested the bonds of their friendship. Eva was in a two year relationship with Preston and Camden was always the best friend that she shared a beer with.

When the novel starts Eva and Cam are at his brother Jude's wedding. Evan and Cam are overwhelmed with their attraction for each other and after a couple of shots and much hesitation they finally give into their intense attraction for each other. This is definitely not your Judy Blume story! When Cam wakes up the following morning Eva is gone! He tries several times to get a hold of her but she refuses to answer the phone. Eva is terrified that their intense night of passion will cost her the only stable and healthy relationship she has ever known. When Eva is called on to investigate a homicide Cam is linked to the death of a homeless man named Soup who also happens to be Cam's informant. Eva finally has to come face to face with Cam and they agree that they don't want to ruin their great friendship, but hey they also cannot ignore that fantastic sex that they share! So they set up a “friends with benefits” type of relationship. Their relationship sizzles and fireworks explode between these two.

Complications arise as Eva learns that Cam has been keeping a secret from her. Someone has put a hit on Cam. Cam doesn't want to worry Eva and doesn't say anything about it to her. Eva also adds complications to their relationship when her ex-boyfriend Preston wants her back. Although Preston never wanted to marry Eva he somehow becomes engaged to another girl, but he realizes it’s a mistake and proses to Eva begging for a second chance. Cam is obviously not happy with this change of events.

As Cam's life is threatened his brothers step in and try to protect him. Eva realizes that she loves Cam and doesn't want to lose him. This is a dynamic story. The element of murder plays an undercurrent to the story and adds to the intrigue. Although both Eva and Cam are tough, they realize that they are exactly what the other one needs.

Interview with Author Tonya Burrows and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back author Tonya Burrows. Tonya is celebrating the recent release of her book SEAL of Honor and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Please give Tonya a warm welcome.

Writing has always been my one true love. I wrote my first novel-length story in 8th grade and haven't stopped since. I received a B.A. in creative writing from SUNY Oswego and I'm now working on a MFA in popular fiction at Seton Hill University.

When I'm not writing, I spend my time reading, painting (badly), exploring new places, and enjoying time with my family. Give me a good horror movie over a chick flick any day. (And, let's be honest, I'll take a bad horror movie too!) I'm a geek at heart and pledge my avid TV fandom to Supernatural and Doctor Who. I'm also a big fan of The Voice. What can I say? Guilty pleasure.

I share my life with two dogs and a ginormous cat. We live in a small town in PA, but I suffer from a bad case of wanderlust and usually end up moving someplace new every few years. Luckily, my animals are all excellent travel buddies.

Feature and Giveaway: Wilde Nights in Paradise by Tonya Burrows

He’ll guard her body all night long.

Former Force Recon marine Jude Wilde’s motto has always been “burn bridges and never look back,” so nobody is more surprised when Wilde Security is hired to protect assistant district attorney Libby Pruitt, the woman he loved and left. Although she makes it clear she wants nothing to do with Jude, they’re forced to fake a relationship for her safety. He can’t ignore the heat still simmering between them, and when her stalker’s threats escalate to attempted murder, he’s left with no choice but to whisk her away to a friend’s safe house in Key West, FL.

Cooped up in paradise together, Jude begins to chip away at Libby’s resolve to hate him. But even as she gives in to his proximity and her body’s demands for his, she refuses to fall for his charms again. Maybe a torrid affair in the sun is exactly what she needs to get him out of her system. But when her stalker tracks them down, can they escape the steamy Key West night without anyone getting hurt?
