Feature and Giveaway: Worked Up by Tessa Bailey

Factory mechanic Duke Crawford just wants to watch SportsCenter in peace. Unfortunately, living with four divorcee sisters doesn’t provide much silence, nor does it change his stance on relationships. But when a fellow commitment-phobe stumbles into his life, getting him good and worked up, he can’t deny his protective instincts.

Samantha Waverly’s brother just put her in an impossible situation. The only way out? Marry huge, gruff, gladiator look-alike Duke—for show, of course. She doesn’t make promises—she knows too well how easily they can be broken—and this is no exception.

As the blistering attraction between them grows, the lines around the no-strings relationship blur. But Duke and Samantha’s marriage is only for show…or is it?

…Duke crooked his finger at her. And hell seemed to break loose between them, filling the air with blazing energy.

“Sorry, what’s that?”

“That’s the international signal for get over here,” he rasped.

Samantha wasn’t given to crashing waves of arousal. No, her libido could more accurately be described as a tide pool, at least before she’d met a certain machinery mechanic. But something about that finger, the absolute gall, the male ego behind it, tossed her around like a pissed off ocean. Duke was turned on. The testosterone was a veritable force field around him, and Samantha wanted in. Hadn’t it been inevitable when they’d met again this morning, so soon after last night? And was she making excuses, telling herself that giving over her body was safe? This was physical, right here. They could touch each other in his kitchen and she’d still be going home when the waves stopped pounding. No other option. Especially leaving without another sample of what had made her feel so…alive. “If I come to you, what are you going to do when I get there?”

“I’ll tell you one thing…” If possible, Duke’s size seemed to double, his muscles shifting beneath his T-shirt. “It’s going to involve your mouth.”

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

ARC Review: Whitefern by V.C. Andrews

I have to start off by saying I have very mixed feelings about this book.  I was one of those devoted V.C Andrew books in my teen years.  I have most of her earlier books written before her ghost writer took over. Andrew Neiderman has been writing for V.C. Andrews since her death.  I was fascinated to learnt that many of the books that I loved by V.C Andrews such as Garden of Lies was completely written by Neiderman.  Sweet Audrina was one of the books that was completely written by V.C. Andrews. It’s been over ten years since I read that book but I remember how much I enjoyed it and how captivated I was by it.   Taking that into consideration, I have not re-read Sweet Audrina so my own views on Whitefern maybe off. I also have to confess that once I learned that a ghostwriter was writing under V.C. Andrews, I lost interest in the books. Even though they were so of my absolutely favorite as a teenager.

When the story begins Audrina is still at Whitefern and married to Arden.  Sylvia is Audrina’s younger sister who is mentally challenged.  The story kicks off with the death of her father.

Ok, so somethings I liked. I think that Neiderman was able to continue the gothic feel to the story.  The story felt dark and the tone was one of unease. I understand that Audrina is a housewife who has lived much of her life sheltered and I didn’t see a big character change in her even now as an adult. Arden I completely disliked. He was a complete jerk and it was difficult for me to make the leap from the young man in “My Sweet Audrina” to the controlling husband that he has turned into in “Whitefern.”  Sylvia was also a hard character for me to understand and I felt that at times Neiderman deviated from her characterization.  The author has a few secrets up his sleeve and eventually they come to light. So my humble opinion about this book.  It’s interesting but not fantastic.  I personally think My Sweet Audrina should have stayed as just a single book without a follow up to the story.

One of the great things after having read this is that I dug up some info on V.C. Andrews and she was an interesting woman. She died a millionaire off the success of her books. I can understand why her estate decide to keep her books going. She also suffered an accident that had her pretty immobile and even though her big ambition was art, writing was what eventually made her famous.

ARC Review: As Rich as a Rogue by Jade Lee

Rakes & Rogues book three. If you missed the first two that’s okay it is perfect as a standalone. Jade Lee brings a horrible situation and remedies it hilariously. At the very beginning you want to hate Peter Norwood, Mari Powell was given a horrible nickname by someone she once liked, but once she overheard him saying bad things about her and her sister she vowed never to forgive him. Mari lived the last six years trying to overcome the name The Wayward Welsh. I wasn’t inclined to kind feeling toward him after his first introduction either; it wasn’t until about halfway through I thought, well damn he is a nice guy. I think one of the most annoying things about Peter was that he was completely oblivious to the harm he caused and didn’t even take the blame for it after he acknowledged it. But the ending was kind of sweet. There is a fine line between love and hate and I think that’s why I enjoy love/hate tropes as much as I do. It’s always enjoyable to see the slow or sudden realization that the characters feelings are not what they thought and after all this time the hurt gets mended and the true feelings are allowed to emerge. That’s what happened with Mari. Peter on the other hand had good intentions when he said what he did, he just said them to the biggest gossip in the known world and his good intentions were taken wrong. In retaliation Mari called him a bunch of names and Peter realized she was right and he left to make something of himself. Now six years later he is back a man who has made a name of himself and now he wants a wife and the only one that he wants is Mari. He just has to convince her of that. How? He is going to do that is with a bet.

The bet, who can teach the bird their phrase will win. Mari would win an apology from Peter on bended knee for giving her the horrid nickname. But if Peter should win he would get a kiss from Mari and so starts his seduction and admitting to Mari why he did what he did.

Overall, the book was funny with a sweet ending. Jade Lee is a great writer she’s always entertaining.

Feature and Giveaway: Lucky Star by Rebecca Caudill

What happens when two best friends who are secretly in love with each other hookup after one too many shots of tequila? For Sarah Travers and Cameron Scott, their friendship is quickly overshadowed by the uncertainty that comes with crossing the line from friends to lovers. Their problems are compounded when Cameron is cast as the lead in a major Hollywood blockbuster and he must decide what’s more important: sticking by the woman he’s loved since the moment they met or the bright lights and temptation of superstardom.

Sarah

When I met Cameron we hit it off like macaroni and cheese. Now we’re practically inseparable but I’ve been hiding the fact that I’m in love with him. Truly, madly, deeply. He finally figured it out and everything changed between us forever. That’s not my biggest problem though. You see, Cameron just landed the role of a lifetime and, despite how he feels about me, I’m worried I’m about to play second fiddle to the bright lights and temptations of Hollywood.

Cameron

I think I’ve loved Sarah since the first moment I laid eyes on her. It goes without saying she’s funny, smart, and has curves for days, but it’s more than that. She’s my light in this cynical, messed up world called Hollywood. I’d do anything to be with her, but I keep screwing up what should be easy. Now the studio is pressuring me to date my new co-star as part of a PR campaign and all I can think is maybe Sarah and I weren’t meant to be.
