Today I would like to welcome to the blog author Carrie Ann Ryan. Carrie Ann is currently on tour promoting the release of her book An Alpha's Path, and took time out of her busy schedule to let me ask her a few questions that I would love to share with you all. So without further ado, here's Carrie Ann.
First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Hi! Thanks for having me today! I’m 25-year-old chemistry instructor living in New England with my hubby and two kittens. An Alpha’s Path is my first trek into writing romance – though I’ve loved reading it for years.
Did you always want to be a writer?
I’ve always written for school and science journals. I tried writing when I was younger, but never found anything I liked. Then I started reading romance…
What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I’m a heavy plotter. I have outlines of series, characters, timelines, books and chapters. If I didn’t, I would totally miss something LOL.
Where do your ideas come from?
Anything and everything. I pretty much write what comes to me.
A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
What happens when a snarky chemist finds out her blind date is a werewolf – and claims she’s his mate?
Out of any of your books, which one would you like to be a character in? And why?
I’ve only written three LOL, but so far I’d love to be in Trinity Bound, my current WIP. I’m delving more and more into their characters and finding their home. Plus – it’s a m/m/f. LOL
What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
Romance! LOL I read just about everything – but a romance series that focuses on a family with kids is usually my favorite. Any recommendations? =)
Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
LOL No. I’ve read over 5,000/ I can’t decide. However, I usually answer this question with what was my favorite book I’ve read this week. And that was Unwrapped by Cari Quinn. =) Very Hot.
Have you ever fallen for another author's hero? If so, who and why?
Every time I read a book. *sigh* That’s the point of romance, is it not? But my favorite hero is Spade from the Night Huntress Series. LOVE him. Caring, sexy, smart and witty. Perfection.
Describe the characteristics that make up your perfect hero.
See above for Spade LOL. Caring, sexy, smart and witty. How he cares for his heroine is what makes a true hero.
What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
The fight scenes. I always want to act them out. My husband doesn’t appreciate when I give him a broom and say “okay, pretend you are attacking me” O_o
If you could have dinner with any three book characters, who would you choose and why?
- Spade. Enough said. LOL
- Smoky from Yasmine Galenorn’s Women of the Otherworld. Have you ever read about him? He’s so strong and interesting. And if I could get him to open up – I’m sure he’d have enough to say.
- Kade – from An Alpha’s Path. Self-serving I know. But he’s the one whose voice was in my head that told me to write. I just want to say thank you. Oh, and he’s hot. LOL
If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
- Yasmine Galenorn – such an interesting person and someone I look up to.
- Lauren Dane – she’s an amazing person and her writing is so vivid, I’m sure she’d be amazing to talk to.
- Ilona Andrews (and Gordon too) – This husband and wife pair’s blog is the only blog I actually read EVERY day. Their daily lives are more interesting than most people’s fantasy world. Love them.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I write, read or cook. I’m pretty boring.
Favorite movie?
Saving Private Ryan
Favorite song?
Where the Green Grass Grows – Tim McGraw
Favorite color?
Pink =)
Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I am working many things! A Taste for a Mate the follow up to An Alpha’s Path, and is out in Feb. Its Jasper’s story and starts the rest of the series in all full-length novels. Trinity Bound is book 3 in that series – the Redwood Pack. I’m also working on a whole new series called Dante’s Circle. The first book of that series is called Dust of My Wings and is about angels. =)
Melanie is a twenty-five year old chemist who has spent all of her adult life slaving at school. With her PhD in hand, she's to start her dream job, but before she does, her friend persuades her to relax and try to live again. A blind date set up through her friends seems like the perfect solution. Melanie can take one night away from the lab and let her inner vixen out on a fixed blind date - a chance to get crazy with a perfect stranger. The gorgeous hunk she's to meet exceeds her wildest dreams – be he is more than what he appears and Melanie's analytical mind goes into overdrive.
Kade, a slightly older werewolf (at over one hundred years), needs a night way from the Pack. Too many responsibilities and one near miss with a potential mate made Kade hide in his work, the only peace he can find. His brother convinces him to meet the sexy woman for a one night of fun. What could it hurt? But when he finds this woman could be his mate, can he convince her to leave her orderly, sane world and be with him and his wolf-half, for life?

**Excerpt**
Kade could only imagine how she would look with her pale, creamy, skin against his darker, bronze skin. Watching her lashes brush her cheeks as she glanced down at her barely touched meal he knew he wanted to kiss any fears or anxiety she carried away.
Mate? I think it’s time to go upstairs. Don’t you?
He couldn’t agree more with his wolf. But he didn’t want to rush her. No matter what happened tonight, they would be going upstairs – that was a guarantee. What they did once they arrived however – was up to the woman in front of him.
“You look as if you have the same appetite as me.” At the sound of his voice, her head popped up from whatever deep thoughts she was thinking. “What do you say we take a walk around the property?”
“Oh, okay. I guess I am just not that hungry tonight.” She smiled sheepishly as she set down her fork and any pretense of enjoying her food.
“Let’s go then, the check taken care of, so we can take our time tonight.”
She smiled timidly again and grabbed her wrap and black, beaded bag. He fluidly rose from his seat and offered her his hand.
“Where would you like to walk to?” Kade, again, toned down his wolf and waited for Melanie’s reply.
“Our room?”
Her face was still stunning with the shade of beet red it became at her surprising, yet not unwelcome, announcement.
His wolf growled in agreement and preened for attention.
He gave her a smile that promised sinful and wicked deeds.
“That sounds like an outstanding idea, Melanie.”

I love your interview. And cooking isn't boring. I'm a science girl, even though I never did much with the science I learned in college. Your novel An Alpha's Path sounds like a fun romance. I'm adding to my TBR pile now.

ReplyDeleteWhat Brena said, except I need to read the book! Soon!
ReplyDeleteI loved your interview and the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview. If book 2 is due out in February, when can we expect book 3?
ReplyDeleteGreat interview and excerpt. Do your books need to be read in order or can they be stand alone as well?
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming y'all!
ReplyDeleteLinda - Book 3, Trinity Bound, is coming out April 2nd. :-)
Jenna - I would read them in order only because it might spoil who the H/h is for the other couples if you don't.
ReplyDeleteBooks 2-7 actually have an overall story arc where there's a huge plot that stretches over the books. But you can still read them out of order and I try to do enough background without confusing folks.
Great interview. An Alpha's Path is already on my wish list and I am need to read it ASAP. Thanks so much.
