Romance Book Casting Call with Kim from SOS Aloha and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome to the Casting Call blogger Kim from SOS Aloha. Kim is one of my favorite people and when I first started blogging her site was one that I visited on a daily basis. She is super nice and I always love learning so many interesting facts about Hawaii from her.

Kim Lowe is a romance reader who lives near Pearl Harbor. She blogs about books at SOS Aloha, www.sosaloha.blogspot.com. Hawaii’s breathtaking beauty inspires Kim to also blog about island travel at Aloha On My Mind, www.alohaonmymind.com.
Places to find Kim:

Aloha, Danielle! Thank you for inviting me to your cast call! Given the recent success of George Clooney in THE DESCENDANTS, I spotlight another story set on Kauai – Jill Marie Landis’ MAI TAI ONE ON. THE DESCENDANTS was written by a local author about family values and Hawaiian aina (land) - the same is true for MAI TAI ONE ON – Jill lives on Kauai’s North Shore. Her story brings together a family to save a local landmark – the Tiki Goddess Bar:

Six months ago, if anyone would have told Em Johnson she'd end up divorced, broke, and running the dilapidated Tiki Goddess Bar on the magical North Shore of Kauai she would have told them to shove a swizzle stick up their okole.

As if all that isn't bad enough, when an obnoxious neighbor with a grudge is found dead in the Goddess luau pit, suspicion falls on Em and the rest of the Goddess staff. With the help of a quirky dance troupe of over-the-hill Hula Maidens, Em and the cast of characters must ban together to find the killer and solve the mystery before the next pupu party.

Christina Applegate would give Em that grit needed to save The Tiki Goddess Bar.

Jill describes Uncle Louis, the lovable owner of the Tiki Goddess as “tan as a coconut and still surfing”. He could only be played by George Hamilton!

The Hula Maidens rally around Em, Louie and Sophie – they are best characterizes as the Golden Girls in a grass skirt.

Finally, Detective Roland Sharpe is “30+, tall, dark, an exotically handsome – the kind of guy women can’t help but notice. Not only that, he moonlights as a fire knife dance for luaus and parties.” Only one man can fit the bill – Marc Dacascos. As my mother in law remarked, “Marc (as Wo Fat) is too handsome to play a bad guy.”

MAI TAI ONE ON is more than a cozy mystery. It is laugh out loud fun that truly captures the offbeat spirit of Kauai. To learn more about MAI TAI ONE ON, its characters, check out its website at www.thetikigoddess.com.

  1. You sure know how to pick a cast! Another book I haven't read (but now want to), you seem to have a knack for finding the right person for the role. From hero and heroine to secondary characters. Well done Kim!

  9. Christina Applegate is the perfect choice for the character, she's a real survivor in real life. While I can see myself and my other 3 friends as the Golden Girls when we grow older. This is fun! :D

  14. Marc is a good looking guy, but every time I see his pic, I think of all of the straight to video action movies he made.

  25. Kim -

How wonderful that Jill's story is about saving a local landmark! I live in New England and fortunately my town is very important it is to save our landmarks to help our ancestors to remember those who came before them!

I love your choices of Christina as Em and Mark as Rolandand loved Jill's description of Uncle Louis!

I do have one small addition to make! I nominate my mother-in-law to join in with the Golden Girls as a member of the Hula Maidens. She'd fit right in!

  26. Christina Applegate is always a good choice. She's great! I think Mark Decostas would make a great bad guy because he is so handsome. That makes his evil all the more devious! jepebATverizonDOTnet

Enjoyable post as usual, I like your choices!

  28. I don't really like Christina Applegate that much, but I would be willing to maybe reconsider. Other than that I don't really know who any of the others are (sorry! I've never seen the Golder Girls and tend to be a little clueless about celebrities). So interesting choices!
