Interview with Author Carmen Falcone and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome to RFTC author Carmen Falcone. Carmen is celebrating the release of her newest title A Vengeful Affair and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Before we get to that, lets get to know Carmen some.

Carmen Falcone learned at an early age that fantasizing about fictional characters and places beat doing Math homework any day. She traveled the world, achieved a B.A. in Tourism in her hometown in Brazil and was soon invited to work in the USA, where she met her Swiss husband. She’d always dreamed of becoming a published writer, and after her daughter was born, she revisited that dream of writing – this time, unwilling to give it up. She lives in Austin and enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family and three high energy pugs.
Places to find Carmen:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Yes! I’m an English-to-Portuguese translator during the day, and writer by night. I also moonlight as wife, mother of a vivacious three year old and a terrible housekeeper. I’m owned by three pugs – seriously, they rarely let me out of the house.

Did you always want to be a writer?
Yes, I did. It hit me that I also wanted to be a published writer, so for the last two years I applied myself toward this dream. I took workshops, found critique partners, and started the dreading submission process.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I’m a panster. I have a very rough outline of the story and let my characters lead me. It’s vital for me, though, to write everyday so I’ll keep connected to them.

Where do your ideas come from?
From nowhere and everywhere. All of a sudden, they just hit me. And I have to look for the closest notepad or computer.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Revenge is sweet, and hot. Vivian is thirsty for revenge, and Javier is hungry for her. Will he lose his merger deal because of her beliefs?

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I love contemporary romance, humor books, and of course category romance.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I have many, but off the top of my head I really like BlackWolf’s Redemption, by Sandra Marton.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
The final scenes. I feel so invested, it’s hard to say good-bye to my characters. I feel like I’m cheating on them if I chose new ones.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Any three? If I could time travel, I’d love to have dinner with Oscar Wilde. He was ahead of his time and so brilliant. Back to present time, I’d choose Tina Fey because she’s my idol. And last but not least, I’d share a meal with Susan Elizabeth Phillips and ask her all her secrets to bring her characters to life like that.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m just finishing a book about a feisty heroine who kidnaps the hero to prevent him from expelling a tribe of Brazilian Indians that are illegally occupying his land. Then I’ll get started on a lovely story of a spoiled, broke L.A. socialite and the rough Texan cowboy she gets mixed up with.

Question to readers: Have you ever plotted revenge against someone? Do you hold grudges?

Rich people get away with murder every day, but Vivian Foster intends to make billionaire Javier Rivera pay for what he did to her best friend—and how better to destroy a money-grubbing bastard than to sabotage the merger that means everything to him.

Javier Rivera would never hurt a woman much less kill one. But when he catches a gorgeous corporate spy in his office, he knows he can’t let her go—not when even a hint of scandal could ruin his career. Until the merger is signed, he’ll keep her close, even if he has to shackle her to his wrist. Literally.

But the closer Javier gets to Vivian, the more he wants her, and the more time she spends with him, the less she believes he could ever be a killer. Now Vivian and Javier have to discover the truth...and Vivian has to win the trust of her worst enemy.

  1. Congrats on the new release. *hangs head in shame* I am a grudge holder. Maybe that's bad, maybe not. I have thought about ways to get revenge against people, but only in my head. I would never act on them. A lot of times just doing that makes me feel better and I won't hold the grudge for as long.

  2. I plot revenge in my head for a while but never follow through, I usually get over myself fairly quickly and move on, I try not to hold a grudge and don't think I have more than once just because if someone is awful they don't deserve the time and energy I have to devote to thinking about them to stay mad.

  3. I too hold a grudge and plot revenge in my mind, but never do anything. I get over it, but I never feel the same about that person ever again.

    1. Hi Mary,

Well said. I have a friend who has dropped the ball so many times, actually she's a former friend now. Sometimes, depending on what happens, you don't feel the same about that person.

      Have a great weekend :)

  5. It has taken me decades of living and some therapy to let go of grudges because I would NEVER let them go and they were slowly eating me alive. I'm better at letting go of stuff now. There are days that I had powers like my ancestor who was accused of witch craft "had" so I could turn people into toads...but alas, no hopping creatures to be seen...yet!

    1. How interesting. I'm a big fan of therapy, and I agree. Sometimes we have to let go. "Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die," isn't it how it goes? :D

  6. Thanks for a fun interview and congrats on the new release!!!

Only in my mind... I don't really hold grudges but if someone does something, I can be a bit obsessive about going over it in my head and it's fun to release steam by picturing all the ways that I could get them back. But usually, I can be the better person and let it go. As long as they can't read minds, I'm clear ;)

  7. I haven't plotted any revenge unless you count the times I did when I was younger with my siblings:) I don't hold grudges... life's too short for that kind of negativity.

  10. No, I have not plotted revenge against someone. I don't find that I have that in me to intentionally hurt another human being even though some may be more than deserving of it. Also, I don't hold grudges. I'm often a forgive and forget kind of gal. Also, being mad or holding a grudge means you lose that precious time of happiness. Life's too short to be mad & unhappy!

    1. Hi Nina!

That's true, life is too short. I like to forgive, but if the person keeps on making the same mistake I become skeptical :D
      Have a great weekend.
