Interview with Author Delilah Marvelle and Giveaway

Today I am super excited to welcome the lovely Delilah Marvelle to RFTC. I am a big fan of Miz Marvelle's and her books are amazing! Delilah is celebrating the recent release of Forever a Lady and has stopped by to answer a few questions. But before I get to the interview, lets get to know a bit about Miz Marvelle.

Delilah Marvelle spent her youth studying various languages, reading voraciously and playing the pianoforte. She confesses that here ends the extent of her gentle breeding. She was a naughty child who was forever torturing her parents with countless adventures that they did not deem respectable. Confined to her room on many occasions due to these misadventures, she discovered the quill and its amazing power. Soon, to the dismay of her parents, she rather enjoyed being confined to her room and finished writing her first historical romance (which was a heart-stopping 800 pages long…) at the age of fourteen. She is a two time Golden Heart finalist and the winner of The Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Sensual HIstorical Romance of the Year. You can visit her at her website at www.DelilahMarvelle.com or her blog, which explores the naughtier side of history, at www.DelilahMarvelle.blogspot.com.

Places to find Delilah:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
I’m a historical romance writer and have to say I love what I do and feel blessed to be able to live my dream. I still can’t believe I’m getting paid to fantasize about history and men, lol.

Did you always want to be a writer?
Yes. Since I was seven. I loved reading books and thought it was the coolest thing to be able to create a world that someone else, millions of miles away, could read.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I am and always will be a Panster. For me, if I know what’s going to happen, I’m no longer interested in writing the story. I also like to think if I don’t what’s going to happen in the story, then how will the reader know? My writing process lends to being raw and new every time and that makes it exciting for me and hopefully, in turn, my readers.

Where do your ideas come from?
It’s a combination of my own life and the history I research. You can’t write about life if you haven’t lived it and you can’t write about history if you don’t research it. Between the two, I have stories pouring out of my nose and ears, lol. It’s wonderful. I never have a lack of ideas that’s for sure!

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
It’s the Gangs of New York City meets My Fair Lady. With sex. Lots of it. ^_^

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I’m a sucker for historical non-fiction. Historical romance is my second favorite, but historical non-fiction is what really blows my mind because it was REAL. I’m all about drama and nothing is more exciting than real, lol. One of my favorite historical non-fiction pieces is THE THIEVES’ OPERA by Lucy Moore. I just sucked into the history.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It was the first historical “romance” I ever read and it sucked me into the historical world I am not obsessed with. I have Charlotte Bronte to thank for that and I often re-read Jane Eyre when I can. For the writing, the story and the historical aspects that just hover above each and every page.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
I don’t have any particular scenes that are difficult to write. For me, it gets harder to write a new book because I’m always looking to outdo myself and write something that would take both my readers and myself by surprise. That makes writing each new book harder and harder, because I have to keep digging deeper and deeper into something I haven’t done before.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
William Shakespeare, Edith Wharton and Charles Dickens. To me, I would pee my pants if I could have had a chance to meet and converse with these authors. Their lives and their works is so bow worthy, I just would have loved to have had a chance to bask in their glory and ask them about their lives and their writing.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Yes! I’m actually working on two things. My Christmas Anthology, which I will be sharing with the ever talented Maire Claremont, called ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A DUKE. I’m having so much fun writing my story. I’ve always wanted to write a Christmas story. And I’m also working on finishing the School of Gallantry Series. I’m almost done writing LADY OF PLEASURE, book 3 in the series. My readers have waited three years for me to return to this series, so I’m excited to be able to finally do so.

Love can open your eyes...

Lady Augustine Jane Ascott longs for a man who will do more than offer on her hand in marriage. She wants a husband she can trust, someone who will shield her from the darkness of the world. Her heart was broken when her younger brother was kidnapped years earlier, and she still carries the pain of his loss.

When the handsome Duke of Wentworth makes his feelings for her known, Augustine's past demons warn her away. Besides, every woman in London knows he's devoted to the memory of his late wife. But is it possible he cares for her after all -- and that their love can bring them the peace they both crave?

But when he sees the fiery-haired beauty who's taken it upon herself to rescue him, suddenly his memory is the last thing on his mind.

Georgia Milton, the young head of New York's notorious Forty Thieves, feels responsible for the man who was trying to save her reticule from a thief. Rumor has it we are closer to the truth...

Two different classes, One common desire...

Cruel gossip, loneliness and hoards of opportunistic suitors have her believing Society couldn't be more vile....or dangerous. So when an attacker threatens her life, she finds safety in the most unseemly of places: the arms of a mysterious, Irish-American gang leader.

His fortune stolen, young Matthew Joseph Milton is done playing the respectable gentleman. In the slums of New York, only ruffians thrive. But from the moment he arrives in London and encounters the volumptious Lady Bernadette, he can't help but wonder about the finer pleasures he's missing. 3. I haven't read any of this series, but the all sound really good! I was wondering in the book "Forever Mine" The heroine's brother was Kidnapped. Will there be a book about him at some point or was that taken care of in "Forever Mine"? It just seemed like it would make such a great story.

  17. Delilah,

I love your books and have to take this opportunity to thank your husband for helping to give you the inspiration to write your wonderful stories! (My husband made me write that - he said if you spend half the time reading your books as I spend reading them that your husband deserves a golden crown!)

It's true that I sometimes (okay always) fail to have dinner ready when I'm reading one of your books but what a girl to do?

Thanks for all the hours of wonderful stories you've shared with me and all your readers!
