Interview with Author Inara Scott and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome author Inara Scott to RFTC. Inara is celebrating the release of her book The Boss's Fake Fiancee and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Please give Inara a warm welcome.

Inara Scott grew up on a steady diet of Harlequins, heaving bosoms, and happily ever after. Romance inspired her first novel, penned at the age of 14, titled A Wild and Stormy Passion. Today, Inara writes anything and everything, including young adult fiction and adult romance. She does frequent school visits and loves teaching writing to students of all ages. Kirkus Reviews called her debut novel, Delcroix Academy: The Candidates a “tightly written, intriguing mystery.” The Candidates (released in paperback as The Talents) was a 2010 Oregon Spirit Book Award Honor Book. The Marked, the second book in The Talents series, was released in April 2012. Inara also writes adult romance for Entangled Publishing. Her fantasy romance Radiant Desire won a 2012 HOLT Medallion Award of Merit, and was a Romance Reviews Top Pick for 2011. Inara’s latest contemporary romance, The Boss’s Fake FiancĂ©e, was released in October 2012.

Places to find Inara:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Thanks so much for hosting me! I wish I could say I'm a circus performer with thirteen cats and six fingers, but alas, I am an ordinary gal! Writing has always been my passion, and I've satisfied it with various careers--lawyer, academic, and now romance author. I have a little white dog I adore, two brilliant children, and a husband who makes me believe in happily ever after. When I'm not writing, I love to do yoga and try to get outside as much as possible. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful place (Oregon) where there is always something to do--even if it's in the rain.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I did. I didn't expect to make a living from writing, but I've always written in some form. I wrote my first romance novel in high school. It featured a kick-ass heroine who becomes a pirate. I have always had a thing for pirates.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I am mostly a plotter, but when I'm writing shorter books, I plot less and pants more. ;-) I always need a roadmap, though, regardless of what I'm writing.

Where do your ideas come from?
Life! I always tell aspiring writers to live life and the ideas will come from everywhere. I get ideas from the news, from conversations I overhear at the coffee shop (yes, I am eavesdropping!), from my kids, and from the non-fiction books I read. Real life is definitely crazier than fiction.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Reclusive billionaire with a secret is forced to play fiance to impulsive employee with a bad habit of falling in love. #thebosssfakefiancee

(NOTE: I love Twitter! Come find me and say hello! @inarascott)

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
Anything with a happily ever after. I do NOT do sad endings. I love Regency and contemporary, and anything with a pirate.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I adore Johanna Lindsey's old Malory family books. I haven't loved the newer ones, but oh I still swoon for Anthony Malory (TENDER REBEL). I'm also a sucker for Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
Sad scenes. As a writer, I'm supposed to torture my characters, but I'm such a softie I really have to force myself to do it. I end up crying as much as my characters do when tough things happen. (Which, you know, can be embarrassing when you're writing at Starbucks.)

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Oh my, I'd love to hang out with Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I always go to her workshops when I am at a conference with her and she's brilliant. And who would turn down a chance to hang out with Nora Roberts? I don't read a ton of her books, but her perspective on writing is absolutely inspiring. I guess the last person would be my buddy, contemporary romance author Susan Sey. She always makes me laugh, and I'd love to put her at a table with Nora and SEP and watch what happens.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Of course! I've got a few projects going, actually. I'll be bringing out my first self-published book in a month or so. WATCHING is a very sexy contemporary romance about an erotic filmmaker and a Hollywood director. Can't wait to share it with everyone! I'm also editing a new YA novel called DON'T FALL ASLEEP, which should be out around Christmas. And yes, there will be a sequel to THE BOSS'S FAKE FIANCEE. I don't have a pub date, but Ross's story will be coming next!

Is she his worst nightmare…

No relationships, that’s billionaire Garth Solen’s rule—especially not with a woman like his new employee Melissa Bencher, who thinks with her heart and not her head. But all bets are off when Melissa tries to make her jerk ex-boyfriend jealous by suggesting that she’s dating her gorgeous boss. How could she have imagined all the trouble one impulsive act could cause?

…or a dream come true?

To protect his ailing grandmother, Garth is forced to play the part of Melissa’s adoring fiancĂ©. Now they’re trying on rings and posing for the paparazzi. The game is clear: for one month, they play the part of an engaged couple, and then they part ways. No emotions. No entanglements. But when it comes to matters of the heart, Melissa’s never been good at following the rules…

  4. Hi, Inara! You are a new author to me, but your books sound really good. It is wonderful that you penned your first romance in high school at the tender age of 14. I have always had a soft part in my heart for loveable and kick-ass pirates as well. Your book, THE BOSS'S FAKE FIANCEE, sounds like a winner and I am looking forward to reading it.
