Shana Galen is the national bestselling author of numerous fast-paced, adventurous Regency historical romances, including the Rita-nominated Blackthorne's Bride. Her books are published all over the world and have been featured in the Rhapsody and Doubleday Book Clubs. She taught English at the middle and high school level off and on for eleven years. Most of those years were spent working in Houston's inner city.
Now she writes full time. She’s happily married to an incredibly supportive man she calls Ultimate Sportsfan, and she has a beautiful little girl she calls Little Galen.
Places to find Shana:
Dear Readers, I'd like to introduce you to Fallon and Warrick, the characters in my upcoming If You Give a Rake a Ruby. Fallon is one of the notorious Three Diamonds, Regency England's most glamorous courtesans. She's the most mysterious of the three, and she wants to keep her past shrouded in secrecy. Warrick is a spy for the Crown, and he's been targeted by a vicious crime lord. Fallon has information Warrick needs, and he has no compunction about blackmailing her for it. They meet in her bedroom, when Fallon climbs into bed and finds Warrick already there.
I suppose I'm supposed to address you in some fancy way now that you're a duchess, but I'd have to find a book on the subject and study the forms of address, and I do not have time for such things tonight. You will not believe what occurred this evening. Or perhaps you will. When I climbed into bed—after a rather nasty encounter with Lord Kwirley (remind me to warn Lily to stay away from the viscount)—your husband's acquaintance, Warrick Fitzhugh, was already in my bed.
Uninvited, I might add!
I immediately asked him to leave, and he proceeded to blackmail me, the scoundrel! I do not know how he acquired the information he did. If I find the rat who told him, I will slit the man's throat! I may have to throttle Fitzhugh's before this is all over. The man vexes me to no end. I know you are happily ensconced in marital bliss, but if you emerge from your marital fog for a few brief moments, please tell Fitzhugh to stay away from me.
P.S. It might be best if you burn this after reading…

HER MYSTERIOUS PAST IS THE BEST REVENGE . . .
Fallon, the Marchioness of Mystery, is a celebrated courtesan with her finger on the pulse of high society. She's adored by men, hated by their wives. No one knows anything about her past, and she plans to keep it that way.
ONLY HE CAN OFFER HER A DAZZLING FUTURE . . .
Warrick Fitzhugh will do anything to protect his compatriots in the Foreign Office, including seduce Fallon, who he thinks can lead him to the deadliest crime lord in London. He knows he's putting his life on the line . . .
To Warrick's shock, Fallon is not who he thinks she is, and the secrets she's keeping are exactly what make her his heart's desire . . .

ReplyDeleteI've read an excerpt on Teresa Romaine's blog, and I really can't wait to read this book! I love a girl who can kick butt with the best of them. How many books will be in the series?
ReplyDeletejoylynne66(at)hotmail(dot)com
Three, Joy. That's my plan, anyway.
DeleteI don't usually like courtesan heroines, but Fallon and this book make me think I should give this story a try.:)
ReplyDeleteCheryl, you'll be okay with this one. She's not a typical courtesan.
DeleteI have always loved your covers. You have the best taste in knowing what will catch the readers eye to make us need to pick it up and take it home!!!!
ReplyDeletejosiehink122026(at)gmail(dot)com
Josie, I owe it all to the designers at my publisher. I really have very little to do with most of my covers.
DeleteLove love love the covers and the letter was adorable <3
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lily!
DeleteI love a feisty heroine and a take-charge hero. I think that Fallon and Warrick are going to give us plenty of action and romance. I'm anxious to see how they find their HEA.
ReplyDeleteGrandmareads, this book does have a lot of action. It was fun to write.
DeleteI can't wait to get my hands on this book! Shana never disappoints and Fallon and Warrick sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patti!

Thanks, Marcy!
DeleteHow do you do hour research on the clothing and architecture of the period?
ReplyDeleteSandy, I started out at my local library and went through everything they had, ordering books listed in words cited from other libraries if mine didn't have them. Now I have the basic knowledge and can do an internet search for details, if i have forgotten them.
DeleteI really enjoyed When You Give a Duke a Diamond and am really looking forward to the next book. I love when a series gives us they stories of our favorite side characters.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Annwitch! I love it when a secondary character, like Fallon, has a big secret.
DeleteJust how did you decide to start out with putting the hero in the heroines bed? It is such a funny starting point. jepebATverizonDOTnet
ReplyDeleteJen, I wanted to get readers' and Fallon's attention!
DeleteAmazing~ Thanks so much. So a great letter to start us off into the story.
ReplyDeleteThanks, kipha, and thanks for stopping by.
DeleteThis sounds like a very intriguing series, I like how the jewels are used in the titles. :) How did you get the idea to jewels for the series?
ReplyDeleteluvfuzzzeeefaces at yahoo dot com
Great question, Julianne. In the regency there was a tern called, "diamond of the first water" that meant a woman who was beautiful, sought after, the "it" girl. So I called the courtesans The Three Diamonds and the jewel idea was born.
DeleteThis sounds like a really good series!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
Thank You for coming by, Natasha.
DeleteThis sounds like a very interesting story. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks, jmcgaugh! Good luck!
DeleteI read both letters... unfortunately I was eating and laughing like that is not good when trying to simultaneously swallow brown rice ;) Too funny!
ReplyDeleteOh, that makes my day--not your choking. Do be careful! But I'm glad they were amusing :-)
DeleteThe letters were terrific, and I am sure the book is even better!
DeleteI love the idea of using Gems for the key to this series - Are you going to do a Blue Sapphire? (that's my birthstone and I love the deep blue color).
ReplyDeleteYes, Di! The third book is SAPPHIRES ARE AN EARL'S BEST FRIEND.
DeleteI think that the heroine's mysterious past in the diamond book was a great story. I also think that comparing the supposed courtesans to precious jewels was an inspired and ingenious way of making them stand out.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty excited when I came up with the idea, but I do have to give my editor some credit for developing it farther.
DeleteInteresting series.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI love Shana's books, but I have not had a chance to read this series yet. I can't wait though. Congrats on the new release :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the giveaway, June, and thanks for the compliment.
DeleteI'd like to know how you managed to be a wife, mom and teacher before leaving to write full time. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I was a writer and teacher and then a writer and mom. It helps to only have two, versus 3, roles. But mostly I don't sleep a lot. Right now I am sitting beside my daughter watching Little Einsteins and typing this.
DeleteLoved When You Give a Duke a Diamond...and I would love to dive into If You Give a Rake a Ruby. I am definitely a romantic!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janice. Me, too!
DeleteThis sounds like a great book. I can't wait to read it! Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Ellen!
DeleteThat is a very intriguing letter, not a Valentine at all.
ReplyDeleteNo, not much of a valentine, is it, Maureen? :-)
DeleteOkay after reading that letter, I have so many questions. I am going to have to read this book! Thanks for sharing it Shana
