Sophie Ashcroft and Teddy are two endearing secondary characters in my February release, Checkmate, My Lord. Throughout the story, you get a sense of their enduring friendship and budding love, despite their class differences. Of course, what is a great love story without a heroic end? Sorry to be a tease, but Teddy’s daring deed is one of my favorite scenes in Checkmate. Enjoy!
Sorry about the archer. I had fun playing quoits with you. Wish I could go to London, too. Mama’s getting better now that she has medicine. Thank Lord Somerton for sending hisfizishundoctor. I’ll give Guinevere an extra carrot everyday.
I’ll dig up some bait tonight.
Check out Teddy and Sophie's story in Checkmate, My Lord
A desperate mother falls in love with the spymaster she’s forced to betray.
THE STAKES ARE HIGH, THE PLAYERS IN POSITION...
Catherine Ashcroft leads a quiet life caring for her precocious seven-year-old daughter, until a visitor delivers a startling ultimatum. She will match wits with the enigmatic Earl of Somerton, and it's not just her heart that's in danger.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN...
Spymaster Sebastian Danvers, Earl of Somerton, is famous for his cunning. Few can outwit him and even few dare challenge him--until now. After returning to his country estate, his no-nonsense neighbor turns her seductive wiles on him--but why would a respectable widow like Catherine risk scandal for a few passionate nights in his bed?

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great story! I can't wait to read it. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy a heroic end so the story sounds very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteHow do you come up with the plot lines and character names for your novels because I think out of all novels regencies have to be one of the hardest to pen so to speak. I'm really curious
ReplyDeleteGreat questions, Ruth!
DeleteMy plots generally stem from a single scene--Book 1 started with dungeon torture scene and stemmed from there; Book 2 started with the heroine/widow approaching the hero/spymaster in the country--duplicity on her mind; and Book 3 grew from a vague notion of an orphanage in London. Not much to go on, heh?
I try to stay true to the names used during the Regency period. So I do a lot of research on Google Books (primary sources) and read names until one feels right.
Thanks!
Thank you Tracey for sharing your wonderful book and the letter with us!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite couples are:
ReplyDeleteRhett and Scarlett
John and Margaret from North and South
