Feature and Giveaway: A Most Improper Rumor by Emma Wildes

What is society to do when the diamonds of the first water are caught in compromising situations, one after the other? Can the young ladies survive the season with their reputations intact…or will the scandalous whispers surrounding them bring about the ultimate ruination?

Once the toast of the ton, Lady Angelina DeBrooke is no longer known just for her exquisite beauty, but more for her notorious marriages. Dubbed the Dark Angel, she has fallen in love for the first time and wishes to marry, but fears finding herself a widow for the third time. With two poisoned husbands and a cloud of suspicion hanging over her head, she turns to the only man in England who might help her…

Benjamin Wallace, Lord Heathton, isn’t interested in playing detective again, but when Lady DeBrooke approaches him in a quest to clear her name, he finds the challenge irresistible. Her second husband was an old friend, and when he takes a closer look, he catches the scent of a foe he has hunted before—and knows this is his chance to finally trap the elusive prey...

  1. Hi Emma, your books sound fantastic. I love a bit of mystery in my historical romances, so A Most Improper Rumor sounds like my kind of book.

  2. This sounds really interesting, and I love that there's some scandal. Not really a question about your books, but in research have you ever found out about any real life regency scandals and were they as interesting as the ones in books these days??

    1. People are just interesting...

They cheat, they lie, but they also love and sacrifice...no specific examples but it is a little funny we are still the same hundreds of years later. We just talk about it a little more

  3. I love detectives and mysteries~! This would look very nice next to my collection of Jillian Stone's Scotland Yard series and Shana Galen's Lord and Lady Spy book.

  4. The poor heroine! But does this mean that the person she's fallen in love with is not the hero?

    ps. Naughty is nice!

    1. A little input. I really like working with Penguin and my editor is wonderful. But usually they give me the cover and I suppose if I had a huge issue we would discuss it, but so far so good.

  12. I've always loved books about the British Ton. That time period is so fascinating because of what women had to do to in order to gain some portion of control of their own lives. I think that I would probably have been a bluestocking myself;)

  17. Hello, Emma! Do you have a special person or company that designs the gorgeous covers of your novels? They are just beautiful! I find that when I’m browsing the bookstore, a really pretty cover like yours is the thing that catches my eye first. Well done! Also, what is your kitty’s name? I have two of them and adore watching them play.

I love your novels and want to send you congratulations on all of your successes!

    1. I had so much fun writing An Indecent Proposition! I thought it would be so naughty (it is a little) but then both heroes proved to have more substance than I ever imagined. Men are usually so predictable.

In this case, they happily surprised me.

  26. It is so lovely to be here!

Well, hmm. Historical romance with suspense? Like a match made in heaven for me. I admit I do like a good mystery with a love story. What could be better? My two favorite genres mixed together.

NAL suggested it and I fell over my feet to take them up on it.

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments. And Danni, I do love you for your patience...

    1. All along I never wanted readers to get a book in a genre they didn't want to read. Let's face it, suspense is NOT historical romance,so I opted to use a different penname.
