The Men and Women of Bagram Special Ops
Tactical Strike is the second book in the Bagram Special Ops series. The inspiration for the entire series was born from my desire to showcase both men and women in uniform serving over in Afghanistan. There are a lot of romance novels featuring military heroes, but not so many featuring their female counterparts, and I wanted to give it a shot. In this series you'll find AFSOC Pararescuemen and a Combat Controller, plus a female Black Hawk pilot, a gunship pilot and a Security Forces member. Setting the books at Bagram in an active warzone proved to be quite a challenge in many ways, but I'm glad I wrote about these amazing people serving in harm's way.
I tend to do quite a bit of research about my characters' professions before I sit down to draft the story, and I hope that effort shines through in my books. It's important to me to teach readers things they might not have known about the military before, and I hope readers come away with even more respect for our military men and women.
I hope you enjoy Ace and Ryan's story!
Happy reading,
Kaylea Cross
Gunship pilot Captain Candace Bradford has worked long and hard to earn her rank and position within the male-dominated world of Air Force Special Operations. She's not about to let anything or anyone jeopardize that, let alone one sinfully tempting man who seems determined to cause her nothing but trouble. Even if she's starting to fall for him.
As an elite Combat Controller, Staff Sergeant Ryan Wentworth is used to overcoming adversity in order to complete a mission. Breaking through Candace's prickly exterior and into her heart is a challenge he can't let go. But just when he's begun to gain her trust, they're thrown together in the field facing an overwhelming enemy force.
Candace and Ryan find themselves on the run, searching the skies for an emergency extraction. But one dangerous enemy has an agenda in mind and he'll use whatever means necessary to achieve it, including using American forces to do his dirty work.

I've only recently gotten into military-themed stories (I know, where have I been?? A little place called lab in grad school), so this sounds like a legend read! Adding this series to my TBR queue for when I have a bit of a breather from writing that riveting dissertation...
ReplyDelete[I have a ridiculous amount of respect for you authors who write for a living. I want to pull my hair out and cry after I've spent countless hours at my computer and have only a few sentences to show for it]
Cris, I hope you enjoy the series! And trust me, I have many days where I want to pull my hair out after getting only a few sentences on the page. Best of luck with your dissertation!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Cover of Darkness was the most intense sit on the edge of your seat book I have ever read. *whispers* I had to take a break because I was so emotionally intensed that I wasn't ready to read Ben and Sam's story. But now I think I have forgiven Sam and ready to move to their story. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the give away.

BTW...my daughter's name is Kaleigh! :)
DeleteI sort of feel like I'm stalking you now, Kaylea. :) Super congrats on your new release. I know it's going to be as great as your other books. Look forward to reading it. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat ideas do you have for any future books?
ReplyDeleteThis series look good. I'll have to check the I rest one out. I like to read them in order.
Lori, right now I'm finishing up the first book of a new series, featuring security contractors (all ex SOF)working overseas in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It will allow me to be less constrained in terms of what I can do with the plot.
DeleteTiDubb, hi! Wow, Ben and Sam's story is much more intense than Dec and Bryn's, I'm afraid. My favorites from that series are books 4 and 5, Relentless and Absolution. I'm tickled that you liked Cover of Darkness so much! And you have great taste in names :).
ReplyDeleteMelissa, thank you! And if I ever was to have a stalker, I hope they'll be as nice and polite as you :).
ReplyDeleteThe research is always appreciated thank you.
ReplyDeleteMary, yay! I'm glad. I know I'll probably make mistakes along the way, but at least I've given it my best shot.
DeleteThis books sounds so great. Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeletemk, only two more days!!! *g*

Marcy, she is! Though not as kickass as another of her roommates, Maya. That woman is TOUGH. Her book is coming out in September.
DeleteSounds great. Cant wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteDonna, thank you, and a HUGE shout out to you for all the promo/Tweeting you've done for Tactical Strike. So appreciated!
DeleteI would like to know if you interviewed any female military heros? Thanks. lisagk(at)yahoo
ReplyDeleteLisa, great question! And yes, I spoke with two currently serving reservists (one's a fellow author) about various things, including what it's like to serve with a bunch of testosterone laden alpha males. And there are some really interesting articles on the subject that I read as well.
DeleteNice inspiration for the books
