I’m happy to be at Ramblings From This Chick to talk book boyfriends! It’s not easy to pick just one! But when she asked, I knew pretty quickly who I’d be picking.
My first love as a reader is paranormal romance, And, of all the paranormal creatures, vampires have always been my favorite and held the most fascination for me. I love their bloodlust, the way their needs for blood and sex go together, all the history they’ve seen and experienced firsthand, their incredible array of supernatural powers. I love their animalistic natures, that they can’t help but want and need to wrap themselves around you, sink their fangs into your skin, and take you. I also love the idea of the loneliness of immortality, and how that makes them tortured and sympathetic, despite their darkness. To me, vampires are simply the ultimate sexy bad ass! And though I have a lot of favorite vampires, one had most gotten under my skin. One has most engaged my imagination. One has most made me wish vampires—and this one in particular—were real.
Zsadist, son of Ahgony, twin of Phury, warrior of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, from J.R. Ward’s Lover Awakened.
Here’s what J.R. Ward had to say about Zsadist: I must confess. Of all of the brotherhood, he was the one I loved first and he remains the one I love the most. For me, he is just the…one.
As a reader, I feel the same exact way. I love Zsadist because his scars ran the deepest, his sense of self was the most shattered, he felt the least worthy of love, his need for redemption was the greatest and his achieving of it the most powerful. And for all these reasons, Lover Awakened is my all-time favorite vampire romance. I have re-read it so frequently I no longer know the number of times. I have talked about it so much that my author friends no longer think it’s strange that I don’t like when they say they like Zsadist because, you know, as a bonded female and all, I just really can’t handle anyone else expressing their interest in him. *winks*
Thanks for reading!
Laura Kaye

A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Anger is his only companion, and terror is his only passion—until he rescues a beautiful aristocrat from the evil Lessening Society.
Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much! What a great comment to start my day! xoxo!
DeleteBeautiful book covers and very interesting descriptions of the stories.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)

ReplyDeleteAwesome! You're welcome!
DeleteI have not yet read any of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books (apparently, I need to remedy that, ASAP!) but I have read several of your books, Laura, and every one was awesome. You are tops for steamy sex scenes, lady. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, that is an awesome compliment! Thank you! And I would be honored to get you hooked on the BDB! :)

DeleteOoh, I can't wait to read these books! I've yet only read your book Hearts in Darkness, but I loved it so much that I have a list of books to buy which includes all of yours. I'm excited to read the Hearts of Anemoi series.
ReplyDeleteI've not had the chance to read the BDB series yet, though I very much would like to. It seems to be a very popular series because every time I go to the library, they are all checked out!
Thank you so much for offering this giveaway! My fingers and toes are all crossed for luck. :-)
Best Wishes,
Lindsey V.
Oh Lindsey, you're in for a treat with the BDB! :) Happy to get you hooked! So glad you enjoyed HiD! :)
DeleteI have been waiting FOREVER to read South of Surrender so when I saw the email I rushed over here like I was being chased. I suspect Chrysander is going to be my favorite (although it will be tough to beat out Owen.)
ReplyDeleteI also have to agree with you on your pick of Z. He was my favorite of the brotherhood as well. He was just so very tortured.
I know it has been forever, hasn't it? I hope you love Chrys! And, yes, Z...
Delete*hangs head in shame* I haven't read anything by JR Ward yet but the BDB series sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it. I love Laura's books especially her Vampire Warrior Kings series. How long until we get another in this series?
ReplyDeleteNo hanging your head! I'ts a problem easily fixed! :) Taken by the Vampire King releases August 1, so not too long now!
DeleteI love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series! I'm obsessed. I know a lot of people LOVE Z, but he's not my fav. I really like Wrath so far. I'm currently finishing the fourth book, however, so I have a lot more to read. I'm particularly looking forward to Phury's book.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
mestith at gmail dot com
I do really love Wrath, too. I think he's my number 3 of the Brothers, with Rhage number 2. It's pretty close though! ;)
DeleteEveryone loves Z! My personal faves are Rhage and Vishous! I have to admit that i have never read one of your books. But Chrys sounds wonderful and now i really want to read it! Thanks for the chance!!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Casey! Hope you enjoy if you read it!
DeleteThe first book that I read from you was Hearts in Darkness, and I truly loved it. You have not disappointed me since. I have not read South of Surrender and don't know what is taking me so long! lol Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteLOL You're not behind, krg! South of Surrender releases May 28! :) So glad you loved HiD!
DeleteSo, I finally bought my first Laura Kaye book - Hearts in Darkness and so can't wait to read it. I have yet to read any of the BDB books but once I get caught up on my review books I plan to insert the BDB books into my just for fun TBR list and get started on them. I fear they will suck me in like JD Robb's books did and I will be come obsessed, so I am waiting to start them. :) Thanks for the giveaways!
ReplyDeleteYes, prepare to become obsessed! :) And thanks for giving Hearts in Darkness a try!
DeleteI'm pretty sure I have north of Need in my massive TBR pile
ReplyDeletewould LOVE to add this one to it!!!! I just caught up on BDB series - I have to read Lover Unleashed, Lover Reborn then Lover At Last :)
Woot! Hope you enjoy Owen! :)
DeleteI really need to check out J R Ward's books
ReplyDeleteYes, yes you do! ;)
DeleteI swear every time I see your sweet misleading face on your profile pic, I think to myself "Self, there is just no way that woman is writing some of those SMEXY, HOT, OFF THE CHAIN, sex scenes in those books." Then I splash ice water on my face and keep reading. If you ever decide to quit writing, you have a HUGE career in undercover police work.
ReplyDeleteLOL! That is Hilarious! :)
DeleteCongrats to Laura on her newest release! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to another hot one :)! Did you see the nice price for pre-order? I'm on that!
ReplyDeleteSquee! Yes! :D
DeleteYeow!!! I would LOVE for a god to fall from the skies and into my bed;) Both books look delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Things like that NEVER happen to me! :P
DeleteI've only read a few of the books in the BDB series, but Z is certainly a tortured hero.
ReplyDeleteLove your books! JR Ward is one my favorites too!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
DeleteI LOVE the synopsis of South of Surrender. Do you have a favorite mythology/folklore that inspired you to write in the paranormal genre? I read the reviews (and many awards) of your other books on GraveTells.com, and I cannot wait to start reading your books!
ReplyDeleteVampires have always been my all-time favorite, but I couldn't resist this series when I realized the mythology of the Anemoi would make such a great story! I'm a huge weather nerd, so it's totally fun for me to write! Thanks so much!
DeleteNice to meet a new-to-me author. Your book sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read either of these authors yet - I'm taking notes during this series of 'Best Book Boyfriend' posts.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a cool series idea?!
DeleteHi Laura! I read North of Need some time back & so loved it - the cover was pretty awesome too. My 1 complaint was that it was too short. I didn't want the story to end. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed North of Need! The books in the series are getting progressively longer! :) South of Surrender is 12,000 words longer than North of Need, so some more pages to enjoy! :D
DeleteZsadist is my favorite. He's a little scary so I'm not sure if I'd want him as my boyfriend. But he was hot!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yeah, maybe not, but it's sure fun to imagine!
DeleteLoved reading your post Laura, thanks for sharing with us all! I just had to take a quick trip to goodreads to basically mark all your titles as 'to read'. :) Paranormal romance/ Urban fantasy is my genre of choice and I'm always looking for another good story. Saying this I will still admit to the sad fact that I've yet to read any of the BDB books, but will hopefully fix that soon as well!
ReplyDeleteGASP! LOL Get thee to the brotherhood! ;) Thanks for the to-read adds! :)
DeleteYes, isn't that interesting! Thanks so much, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteI have been playing catchup on BDB this year! I can hardly wait to get to Zadist! I need another book boyfriend!
ReplyDeleteZOMG Zsadist! What a treat you have in front of you! :)
DeleteThank you for reminding me of another reason to enjoy vampires, the history they've seen, and the experiences they've lived. That was one reason I always loved the Highlander movies and TV show. Thanks for the post. lisagk(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteYes, so true, Lisa!
DeleteI still have not read any of the BDB books. I've got to get hold of some, so I can remedy the omission!
ReplyDeletePost haste! :)
DeleteI think two other authors have also mentioned Zadist as their book boyfriends. I really need to check out what all this fuss is about!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes you do. And who are these other authors so I can make it clear he's mine??? ;)
DeleteIt would seem best that I not stand in your way where Zsadist is concerned.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely have to read Lover Awakened, I've heard so much about Zsadist!!
ReplyDeleteI love all the BDB, but my fav is Vishous. He is the perfect alpha male for me. I absolutely love your books and this series and am so wanting to read South of Surrender. My top all time book boyfriend is Bones from Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. A close second is Marco from Her Forbidden Hero. I love the book. Thanks for the chance to win.

Oh Laura I could not have said it better, guess that is why you are the author and I am the reader, lol. Zsadist is by far the most awesome paranormal book boyfriend! I just read Samanthe Beck's THE PRIVATE PRACTICE and her Tyler Longfoot nade the grade for a contempory book boyfriend -- phew (fans herself ;-) ).
