Interview with Author Brooke Moss and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome author Brooke Moss to RFTC. Brooke has stopped by to answer a few questions and to chat about her book, The "What If" Guy. Please give Brooke a warm welcome.

Brooke writes complex, character-driven stories about kismet, reunited lovers, first love, and the kind of romance that we should all have the chance at finding. She prefers her stories laced with some humor just for fun, and enough drama to keep her readers flipping the pages, and begging for more!

When Brooke isn't spinning tales, she spends her time drawing/cartooning, reading two books a week (ask her who her faves are), watching movies then comparing them to books, and, of course, wrangling four kids, one hubby she lovingly refers to as her "nerd", and attempting to conquer the Mount Everest of laundry that is the bane of her existence.

Places to find Brooke:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
I am a wife to a loveable nerd and the mom to five adorable but wicked children ranging in age from 14 to almost 2. In addition to being an author of women's fiction, contemporary romance, and YA fantasy…I am also an Austism Spectrum Disorder advocate (my four year old is on the Autism spectrum) and a foster parenting advocate (my youngest is a foster child we are in the process of adopting). When I'm not writing, I can be found watching The Real Housewives of about anywhere (then denying it), eating lots of cheese, and changing the color of my hair.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I did! When I was a kid, I would make up large families of 10 or 12 children, then write long, intricate stories about their adventures. I grew up to achieve both goals: Having a large family and becoming an author.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I am a pantster until about chapter 4 or 5, then I panic and have to plot the rest of the book out. Loosely…but still. *hangs head in shame*

Where do your ideas come from?
Real life! Every couple you see in a restaurant or grocery store has a love story. It may not have a happy ending, but there's a love story in there. And I love to hear them all.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Move back to a small town and break your old college sweetheart's nose? What the what? Grab #thewhatifguy today.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
Contemporary romances are my favorite. But I also love New Adult, dystopian YA, and the occasional steampunk.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
My current favorite is Liza Palmer's most recent release: Nowhere But Home. Ohmigosh, it will blow your mind and make you ugly cry. It's so, so, so good.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
The in-between scenes. The ones that get you from big plot point to big plot point. Those things are very difficult for me. Ergh…

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Oh, this is a good question: Kristan Higgins (because I'm her biggest stalker fan); Tracy Graves Garvis (because her book, On The Island, was AMAZING); and probably Liza Palmer (because I've heard her speak, and she's naturally hilarious!)

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I'm working with an editor on my first self pub, which is a romantic women's fiction called BABY & BUMP, and it's a total crack up! I can't wait to hear what my readers think. It was a total blast to write. I also have a fantasy YA titled UNDERWATER coming out sometime this summer through eTopia Press, and I'm super psyched to scare everyone out of the water!

**Please provide a question to ask blog followers. **

A what-if guy is the one guy you look back on with fondness and sigh happily. You wonder, if life had turned out differently, what would have become of me had I wound up with ______. Who is your “what-if guy”, and why?

What would you do if your "what if" guy showed up at the lowest point of your life?

(Autumn Cole clocked hers with an encyclopedia.)

After losing her job at a swanky Seattle art gallery and finding out her father has been hospitalized, single mother Autumn Cole reluctantly returns to her tiny hometown of Fairfield, Washington, to put the pieces of her life back together.

Her disgruntled twelve-year old son isn't thrilled about going from hip to hick, but Autumn's got it worse. She resumes her role as the daughter of the town drunk, promptly facing a crisis with her father that's been decades in the making.

Running into Henry Tobler, and nearly breaking his nose, is almost more than she can handle, but can rediscovering love-and herself-with her "what if" guy teach Autumn to forgive before it's too late?

  1. I guess there are a couple of "What if" guys - one from high school (naturally he didn't know I existed) and one from grad school who was a friend. You always wonder how your life would be different.

  3. I don't really have one. I met my hubby when I was 17 and have never looked back. The few guys before him were not worth it!

  5. I think there are a couple of 'what if' guys -- maybe 3 from elementary, jr & sr high schools, and a couple from college. But really none that I 'dream' over. Did have one I'd planned to marry, until I married my forever guy (and we just celebrated 46 yrs) -- found out a couple years ago that he died a few years ago

  6. There is only one "what if guy" out there. My summer romance before my Junior year of High School. He was and still is wonderful, but sadly because of time and distance it just didn't work out. However if it had I would have never found and fallen head over heels for my wonderful husband of 11yrs, so I wouldn't change anything.

  10. My "what if" guy is a boy I met when I was around 4 years old. We were great friends and I always secretly had a crush on him. when we were about 16 we lost touch but I still think about him often and wonder where and how he is. and, yes, I often wonder "what if?". Brooke's book sounds like a great read. Thank you for the giveaway!

  12. There's a professional hockey player that I met a few times. He was obviously attracted to me but I'm awkward when it comes to those things. I always think what if I had given him my number before he left the bar?
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  15. I think my what if would have to be my first love we broke up and i was broken hearted, as a teenager it was the end of the world for me..20 odd years later i still sometimes catch myself thinking what if we hadn't broken up, but i think that is because u still see him around if i didn't see him i probably wouldn't give him a second thought :-)
