Interview with Author Nichole Chase and Giveaway

Please welcome author Nichole Chase to RFTC. Nichole has stopped by to chat about her book, Suddenly Royal and to answer a few questions.

Nichole Chase is a daydreamer. No, really, just ask any of the math teachers that had the misfortune of seeing her name appear on their class schedule.

For years she has had story lines and characters begging for attention, but she resolutely pushed them aside to focus on more normal (read, boring) jobs.

Well, no longer! She is currently heeding the voices in her head and frantically writing their stories. Ms. Chase is the author of the Dark Betrayal Trilogy, Flukes, and Suddenly Royal (including several short stories).

Nichole resides in South Georgia with her husband, energetic daughter, dog, tortoise, and two cats. When not devouring novels by the dozens, you may find her writing, painting, crafting, or chasing her daughter around the house while making monster noises.

Places to find Nichole:

Why did you choose to write a novel surrounding the topic of royalty?
It was a fun thought and my imagination ran with it. I’ve always loved stuff about Elizabeth I and my mother thought it was great that she had a child the same month Princess Di did. (That’s right, Prince William and I are only a couple of weeks apart in age!) If you combine all of that, I suppose it was only a matter of time before I wrote a book about royalty.

What kinds of scenes are the most difficult for you to write?
If you mean challenging, it would be scenes where a character is doing something I’ve never done in real life. I worry I’ll get something wrong. If you mean emotionally difficult, it’s when my characters are hurting. I’ve cried while writing books many times. Giant tears falling down my face while I try to keep typing. When I know those scenes are coming up, I make sure to write at home. Otherwise I freak the people at Starbucks out.

How much research do you do before you begin writing a new novel?
It depends on the novel. For Suddenly Royal I had to do a lot of research about royalty, traditions, and protocol. Since I live in a country that doesn’t have a monarchy, I had a lot to learn.

Weird fact about me: I love to research stuff. I love to slip in little facts in stories. It makes my day when someone points one of them out.

What are you currently working on? What can readers expect to see from you in the near future?
I’m currently working on The Accidental Assassin. It’s about a woman who is staying in England and finds herself in a terrible situation. It’s fun and full of action. I’m loving working on it and can’t wait for everyone to read it.

After The Accidental Assassin releases in October, the new mass market paperback for Suddenly Royal from Avon Harpercollins will be available in stores (Nov. 26th). It will contain some fun bonus scenes. This coming spring will be the release of the next Royal book.

What character has been your favorite to write so far?
Samantha was a blast to write. She’s so down to Earth and reacts to situations in a very realistic manner.

This or That questions:
Coffee or Tea? Tea
Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate
Tattoos or Piercings? Tattoos
Pink or Blue? Blue
Sweet or Salty? BOTH! At the same time for extra points! ;)

Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

  1. Oh your book sounds fabulous! I know I'm waiting on for the paperback.

Since we're talking about England and royalty, Nichole, do you ever think you'll write an Historical romance? You're almost there you know. ;)

  3. I love the cover for Suddenly Royal. So Audrey Hepburn! I think you should be an honorary royal since you were born by Prince William! ;)

  4. Obviously despite your daydreaming in math class you have a true love for writing and stories, what was one of the first stories that you remember telling someone other than your math teacher as to why you did not get your assignment done////lol. Seriously, I look forward to reading Suddenly Royal, thank you.

  11. Hello Nicole! I like stories about royalty. It's like grown-up fairy tales. :-) In this story I realize both the hero and heroine are royal, but still, they have to wend their way around the issues that crop up in a courtship. "Getting to Know You" is a big deal for Sam and Alex since so much rides on their relationship. Thanks for your post today! jdh2690@gmail.com

  14. Will the second royal book also feature Sam and Alex? Or will we be seeing them as just a sidebar?

  17. I like the sounds of this book. Kind of like a grown up version of the Princess Diaries that my girls made me read and watch. Finally a "fairy-tale" for mom!

  18. I like reading about royals. My hubby says we Americans seem to be much more interested in all things royal, than the English are.

But this story is not 'English /British' royalty, but some other country, and I like that very much. I think ever since I read THE MOUSE THAT ROARED and about the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, I've been interested in countries (historical & fictional) that have 'royalty'.

And, of course, our own Grace Kelley who became Princess Grace of Monaco is a real story from 'ordinary' woman to 'royalty',
