Romance is Bliss Event with Coleen Kwan

Meet Bliss author, Coleen Kwan.

Coleen Kwan has been a bookworm all her life. At school English was her favorite subject, but for some reason she decided on a career in IT. After many years of programming, she wondered what else there was in life — and discovered writing. She loves writing contemporary romance and steampunk romance.

Coleen lives in Sydney, Australia with her partner and two children. When she isn’t writing she enjoys avoiding housework, eating chocolate, and watching Criminal Minds.

I’ve been an avid bookworm since before I could read, and I love reading all kinds of genres—historical, mystery, thriller, sci-fi, women’s fiction. Regardless of genre, if a book has a great romance in it, then that’s what I tend to remember rather than the plot. I love the ebb and flow of emotions, the false starts, the impossible obstacles, the hopeless yearnings, the rocky road that must be travelled. The romance might be doomed never to end happily, but I still love following that journey.

We can’t always control our love lives, but when I write a romance, I can put my characters through all sorts of hell, knowing that in the end they will reach their happily ever after. Does that make me sound sadistic? I hope not! I only torture my characters and pull them apart because I know they will find a way to get back together. And I think that’s what readers want too. They want to experience that roller coaster of emotions knowing they will arrive at the end intact and satisfied. A romance where everything goes smoothly is all good and well in real life, but would make a rather dull book IMHO.

In my Christmas novella White-Hot Holiday things don’t go smoothly at all. While visiting Australia, Aaron gets stranded, and has to spend Christmas Down Under. Aaron always finds the festive season stressful, but now he’s stuck with a girl who’s nuts about Christmas. Newly single Naomi has sworn off arrogant, workaholic guys like Aaron. And even if there’s a white-hot spark between them, he lives in New York, and she’s just resettled in Australia. There’s no way anything can happen between them.

When writing this novella I got caught up in my characters, and even though I’ve moved onto other books, I still think about them fondly and wish them well. And that is the great thing about writing romance—the characters and their romance live on even after the story has ended.

Getting snowed in never felt so good as boundaries are crossed, opposites attract, and friends discovering more promise a Christmas no one will ever forget.

Loving Mindy by Karen Erickson

Mindy can’t believe she’s stuck with her ex–best friend—and the man whose heart she broke years ago—for the holidays, though the tension between them is more than enough to keep them warm. Josh Powers never forgot Mindy, but he can’t risk his heart a second time.

White-Hot Holiday by Coleen Kwan

Naomi’s sworn off men like Aaron—rich, cocky, and dismissive of holiday traditions. Aaron decided to spend Christmas in sunny Australia to avoid snowy New York, not to fall for the woman his best friend warned him away from. But when a volcano grounds him, Aaron and Naomi’s relationship becomes eruptive.
An Officer and a Rebel by Cindi Madsen

The last person police officer Nate Walsh expected to discover in a snowstorm is his brother’s ex and former town rebel, Kelsey Cooper. She’s his complete opposite and totally off-limits, but as they wait out the storm together, all he can think is how he wishes she’d stay forever.

Saving the Sheriff by Roxanne Snopek

Frankie Sylva was determined to free the captive reindeer, even if it meant risking her own life. Deputy Sheriff Red LeClair set out to save a stranger in a snowstorm, never expecting he’d be the one to be rescued.

  9. Unusual to go from IT to writing. Usually it seems to be lawyer first then author. Writing is probably a less stressful profession! I used to be a programmer. That 24/7 on call was never fun.
