A Naughty New Year with Rebecca Zanetti and Giveaway

A Naughty New Year - Rebecca Zanetti

USA Today Bestselling Author Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor, and a hearing examiner - only to culminate it all in stories about Alpha males and the women who claim them. She writes dark paranormals, romantic suspense, and sexy contemporary romances.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides in the wild north with her husband, children, and extended family who inspire her every day--or at the very least give her plenty of characters to write about.

Places to find Rebecca:

Love in an Elevator

Happy New Year’s, everyone! My newest release is SWEET REVENGE, which is book 2 in the Sin Brothers series. It features oldest brother, Matt Dean, who has to hunt down a surgeon in order to save his brothers’ lives. During his quest, he finds sexy bar owner Laney Jacobs, whose past is a dangerous as his. Together they find love and deadly adventure.

For you today, I wrote a short scene about being caught in an elevator on New Year’s. I hope you enjoy it!

Melanie smoothed down her party dress and ignored the man standing less than a foot away in the elevator. This close, she was reminded of his sinewy size. At well over six feet tall and built like a mac truck, Jason Denney might as well wear a ‘Male’ stamp. The guy was all man.

Seventh floor. Eighth floor, Ninth floor. The lights lit up as the elevator continued to climb.

“You’re going to have to talk to me sometime,” Jason said, his gaze remaining on the lit up numbers.

“No, I don’t.” One more floor. Just one more.

He sighed. “Listen, it was one court case. You’ll win the next one.”

Damn it. She’d wanted to win this one. “Your client committed fraud.”

“So did yours.” Jason glanced down and tightened his cuff links. “They were two rascally old business partners who have had as much fun defrauding each other as running their businesses.”

“Until a woman came between them.” Yeah, they were both scoundrels. Melanie bit back a grin.

Jason nodded. “I know. But the woman is long gone—with half of their cash, by the way—and they’ll be best friends again soon.”

Melanie wanted to remain ticked, but the old coots were probably already planning their next adventure. “I guess when you’ve been friends with somebody for seventy years, it’d be difficult to just say goodbye.”

“It’s harder to say goodbye to the woman you’re meant to love forever,” Jason said quietly.

Her heart thumped. Hard. They’d only dated for two months before the case had forced them apart. Two lawyers made for a tricky match, now didn’t it?

The ground suddenly lurched and started to plummet.

She cried out, her body thrown sideways.

Jason caught her, muscled arms wrapping tight. He ducked them down, enfolding his body around her.

Warmth and terror filled her.

The world rocked as the elevator screeched to a halt, throwing them in the air. Melanie landed on Jason, the breath whooshing out of her lungs.

He patted her back and took deep breath, his chest moving her. “Stand up, darlin’.”

She slowly stood, her gaze on the lit number six. “We have a long way to fall still.”

The speaker crackled, and a screen above the numbers took shape. The two rascally old bastards.

Dale Jansen smiled perfect dentures while smoothing back his gray hair. “Fred and I made up. Now you two make up.”

Next to him, Fred Newby squinted through bottle-thick glasses. “Yep.”

“Damn it.” More amusement than anger colored Jason’s tone. “You could’ve killed us.”

“Love is worth dying for, young man,” Fred muttered.

“You’re right.” Jason pivoted and dropped to one knee. “I had planned to do this later after buttering you up all night, but considering I don’t trust this elevator and whatever our clients have done to it, I’d better ask now.” He pulled out a stunning diamond solitaire. “Will you marry me?”

Melanie gasped, her heartbeat thundering in her ears. She studied Jason’s deep green eyes. Full of love, amusement, and challenge.

Just what she needed in life. “Yes.”

Twin yahoos echoed from the elderly men through the speakers.

Jason smiled, slipped on her ring, and then stood for a kiss that ended time. When he finally lifted his head, the elevator doors were opening on the tenth floor. “Happy New Year’s.”
