There’s no way that I could pick just one favorite couple. Not a chance.
So, I have two lists.
I think like most romance readers and a lot of writers, I have favorite couples from when I started to read romances, before I began to write them, books that grabbed me by the throat and still haven’t let go. My other list is favorite couples from the last few years. Couples from books that really changed the way I look at romance. The way I write it. So, let’s go way back, shall we?
1. Samuel and Lena from Laura Kinsale’s The Shadow and The Star. For me, this is the standard against which all other historical romances are measured. A wounded hero, a proper heroine fallen on hard times. Beautiful writing with stomach coiling angst and drama.
2. Janna and Carlson from Elizabeth Lowell’s Love Song for a Raven. Truth is ALL of Elizabeth Lowell’s early categories could be on this list. She was my first glom, my first romance all nighter, and my second.
3. Sam and Jake from Deborah Smith’s Silk and Stone. Deborah Smith was my second glom. I found Blue Willow in a used bookstore and then gobbled up everything she wrote. This is my favorite of her’s. A sweeping family epic with paranormal elements – it’s delicious.
Samantha Vanderveer has no inkling of the lives that have been destroyed by the infamous Pandora Ruby, a gem that has divided the Vanderveer and Raincrow families for decades, when she falls in love with Jake Raincrow.

A list from the last ten years…
1. Rachel and Gabe from Susan Elizabeth Phillips Dream a Little Dream. My favorite romance of all time.
2. Serena and Hugo from Courtney Milan’s novella The Governess Affair. This is one of those perfect gems in romance. I re-read it every summer and it still hits me right in the heart every time.
3. Caroline and West from Robin York’s Deeper and coming soon Harder. These are New Adult novels that tackle big topics (revenge porn) and deep deep feelings.
And as a bonus…
JoJo and Mark from Stephanie Doyle’s Superromance For The First Time. Stephanie writes books that roll out like movies and this is her best one. The dialogue crackles and so does the tension!
Being a father shouldn't feel this risky!
There's not a lot former CIA agent Mark Sharpe hasn't done. Yet suddenly he's in a world of firsts—first time being a father, first time being self-employed…and first time being attracted to his employee. JoJo Hatcher, with her attitude, her tattoos and her investigative talents, tempts him in ways he can't explain. With each day she becomes more irresistible. How is he supposed to function in this messed-up situation?
Then his teenage daughter, Sophie, is threatened. There's only one person he trusts to help him: JoJo. As they work to untangle the mystery, Mark imagines a future together that includes another first—family.

Perfect for readers of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson, Molly O’Keefe’s second novel in her exciting new series—The Boys of Bishop—features an irresistible romance and unforgettable characters in a page-turning story that delivers equal parts emotion and humor . . . with a little edge to boot.
As the daughter of a wealthy politician, Ashley Montgomery has had enough of her parents’ expectations for her future and is going her own way, volunteering to work at a refugee camp in Africa. But her act of charity turns dangerous when she takes a boat trip and is abducted by Somali pirates. Enter Brody Baxter, who was a bodyguard for the Montgomery family ten years ago and doesn’t think twice about coming to Ashley’s rescue. Handsome and tough, Brody has always done what needed to be done. So he swoops in, saves Ashley, and brings her to a place where she can rest and recuperate without the glare of the press and her demanding family: Brody’s small hometown of Bishop, Arkansas. But Ashley soon realizes that she’s not the only one in need of healing.
Holed up with Ashley in a tiny apartment over his brother’s bar in Bishop, Brody is tempted and torn in ways he never anticipated. Beautiful Ashley, vibrant despite her ordeal, fearless enough to love him beyond his wall of self-punishment, is now determined to save him. But with a little faith and a lot of love, they just may find happiness in each others’ arms.
