Talk Dirty To Me: A HOW-TO GUIDE FOR BEGINNERS

Thanks so much for having me back to Ramblings From This Chick!

What used to be a Renaissance love sonnet is now a quick text or breathy voicemail. Whatever the century, everyone loves to know they’re on someone else’s mind. In my latest book, Roulette, the hero, Rome, and the heroine, Miki, first “meet” on the telephone; they’re unlikely business associates who’ve never met in real life. Never one to tarry, Rome quickly remedies this by flying to Russia the next morning to meet Miki in person, but throughout the book, Miki always melts at the sound of Rome’s voice because of the impact he made during those first few phone calls. She also hears his “voice” when he texts something as seemingly simple as “What are you wearing?”

In our hectic modern life, we’re often at work or apart from our loved ones for other reasons, so I thought I’d write a quick guide to flirting with your virtual loved one. Or as the delightfully tawdry Urban Dictionary would say: SEXTING! Whether it’s someone you’ve just met, or your long-term partner, a few suggestive words can go a loooooong way toward getting you both in the mood.

1. What are you wearing?

For me (and Jérôme Michel de Villiers), this is a classic opener. You are letting the other person know you are thinking about them—er, physically—and this also provides you with details you will need later on in the convo. (See 5.)

2. Where are you?

Again, great opener because it sounds innocuous enough, but then a reply can easily turn dirty. If a loved one is on a cold mountaintop, for example, you can tell them how much you wish you were there to warm them. On a hot beach? Pass the sunscreen and let me massage your back. At the office? Don’t even get me started.

3. Have you ever…?

Fill in the ellipsis based on your level of intimacy.

…been skydiving?

…touched yourself while…?

You get the idea. Get your partner thinking about the possibilities, which—*BONUS*—will get you thinking about the possibilities!

4. I’ve been thinking about…

Speaking of possibilities, this is along the same lines as “have you ever...” but with the added benefit of not putting any pressure on anyone. It’s just an idea! Just a dirty little smutty idea I had! But, if you, my friend, just happen to like the sound of that idea at all, then maybe that’s something we should investigate. Or not. It’s just an idea! Jeez!

5. Take off your…

The obvious answer is underwear, of course, but my mind tends to spiral rather quickly into the smutter. Really, any variation on this theme will get the ball rolling: “Unbutton your collar…” “Loosen your tie…” “Untuck your blouse…”

And those are my five tips for beginner sexters! Public Service Announcement: do NOT try this with strangers! It is creepy and usually illegal. On the other hand, with the right person, it can totally brighten your day.

Have any of you ever sexted or left a suggestive voicemail? Flirted on the phone? Pray tell!

Miki Durand has always dodged the limelight. As the illegitimate daughter of a French movie star and a Russian billionaire, she craves a normal life—and it’s almost within reach. She’s up for a tenure-track position and has a perfect-on-paper boyfriend. What more could a woman want?

But when an unforeseen tragedy knocks her off cruise control, Miki finds herself leaving sunny LA for cosmopolitan St. Petersburg. With the fate of her father’s international business in her hands, she comes face-to-face with the ultimate temptation: corporate rival Jérôme Michel de Villiers. He’s everything she never thought she wanted, and their sizzling attraction soon sparks into an all-consuming flame.

Notoriously risk-averse, Miki knows it would be a gamble to fall for the sexy French playboy. But for the first time in her life, she’s ready to take a chance and let the chips fall where they may.
