Guest Post with Author Candis Terry and Giveaway

Meet Candis Terry, author of Sweet Surprise.

Candis Terry was born and raised near the sunny beaches of Southern California and now makes her home on an Idaho farm. She’s experienced life in such diverse ways as working in a Hollywood recording studio to chasing down wayward steers. Only one thing has remained the same: her passion for writing stories about relationships, the push and pull in the search for love, and the security one finds in their own happily ever after.

Hello! And thank you so much for letting me drop in today.

As a writer, you put words down on paper—or in this day and age, tap them out on a keyboard and hope they will inspire, create emotion, laughter, or whatever it is you hope to achieve. As a reader you get to experience (and hopefully enjoy) those words without knowing all the angst the writer went through to create them. I’m a reader first. A voracious one, in fact. I have favorite paperback books I’ve had so long and read so many times the pages are yellowed and dog-eared. And in each of those precious books I can flip right to the page with some of my favorite lines. Hopefully that’s an homage to the author. Because now I know how difficult putting down those words can really be. So today I thought I’d share with you five of my favorite lines from my new release Sweet Surprise, a story about a bad girl gone good and the fireman who talks her off the ledge.

1. Instead of graduating, as she had, with a business degree from Clemson, you would have thought she’d acquired a master’s degree in How to Screw Up Your Life.

2. “I don’t mind her making me break a sweat; I’m just hoping it doesn’t have anything to do with castrating calves.”

3. And then she gave him that smile, the one that could take him down like a house of cards.

4. “Look at you now . . . Okay, maybe not right now, with your sexy compression sock and your forehead looking like you crushed a can of Budweiser into it.”

5. “What would they even call a fireman groupie, a hose bunny?”

And there you have it. So now I have a question for you . . . are there books you’ve read where you can still recall certain lines?

Playing naughty or nice...

Fiona Wilder knows all about falling in lust. Love? That's another story. Determined not to repeat past mistakes, the single mom and cupcake shop owner is focused on walking the straight and narrow. But trouble has a way of finding her. And this time it comes in the form of a smoking hot firefighter who knows all the delicious ways to ignite her bad-girl fuse.

Can lead to heartbreak...

Firefighter Mike Halsey learned long ago that playing with fire just gets you burned. He's put his demons behind him, and if there's one line he won't cross, it's getting involved with his best friend's ex. But when fate throws him in the path of the beautiful, strong, and off-limits Fiona, will he be able to fight their attraction? Or will he willingly go down in flames?

“Where you’re concerned, I’m not sure I have any control.”

Fiona swallowed. Something warm and for- bidden swirled in the pit of her stomach, then wound its way into her heart and other vital parts of her body. In the old days she’d tug him closer and take what she wanted. But this was a new day. A new Fiona. A more responsible Fiona who, unfortunately, couldn’t seem to get this man off her mind.

“Then maybe this won’t work out.” She eased her hand from his and instantly missed the fire in his touch.

“Maybe.” Those broad shoulders beneath that fresh cotton T-shirt lifted in a nonchalant shrug. “I’m willing to give it a shot if you are.”

Give what a shot, she wanted to ask. The actual work? Or the sexual tension that ignited between them like gasoline and matches?

A sigh expanded her chest. “If you’re going to work for me there can’t be any flirting. Or touch- ing.”

His smile widened to a grin. “It’ll be a plea- sure working under you.”
Oh boy.

  5. I am just starting to read the Sweet series. Although I am reading them out of sync, I love that these Wilder men all love their momma and how they all band together. I am reading Something Sweeter, so I am getting to know all the Wilder men and their lady loves. I love the closeness of the family.
