Cindi Madsen is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance and young adult novels. She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting, revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a pretty new pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music and dancing and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.

Five favorite summertime places to read.
1) The park. My kids are getting older, but they still like going to the park. I like to take my book so I can read and bask in the sun—maybe even lie back in the grass—while they play.
2) My yard, under the awning, during a rainstorm. I love, LOVE, reading outside when it’s raining. My hubby hates it, because he’s sure I’m going to get hit by lightning. But I stick close to the house with the roof to keep me and my book dry, inhaling the rain.
3) The beach. I used to live in California, and one thing I constantly miss is going to the beach, laying out in the sunshine, toes in the sand, and reading.
4) The pool. Same idea as the beach. Whenever I travel in the summer, I look for hotels with nice pools to camp out by and read.
5) BBQ. If you’re playing host to people, it’s trickier, but if it’s just me and the family, I like to throw the food on the grill and read while it’s cooking, an icy Diet Mountain Dew on the table by me.
The road to trouble is paved with sweet temptation…Always the rebel in her ultra-conservative family, Quinn Sakata dreams of quitting her dad's real-estate business and restoring the old Mountain Ridge Bed and Breakfast in her hometown of Hope Springs. Except that Quinn's not the only person bidding on it. Worse still, her competitor is her high school crush, Heath Brantley, who is all kinds of ripped, tattooed hotness...So much for her "nice, conservative boys" rule.Heath has his own reasons for bidding on Mountain Ridge, and he won't give in without a fight - even to the red-lipped hottie with a sailor's mouth. But when their rivalry shifts into an unexpected zing of chemistry, Heath realizes he's in deep trouble. Because it's inevitable that emotions will get involved, and he needs to keep his eyes on the prize before they both get hurt.

I agree with all your favorite reading places. Nothing better than reading while relaxing at the beach or pool, or just outside at home. Now, I would probably head in if there is lightning. So, I don't blame your husband on that one. lol
ReplyDeleteHaha. But that fresh scent of rain + books is so nice! After so much rain this year, though, I'm all about the sunshine reading :)
DeleteI love to read at the beach...the background noise of the surf and people's voices is so soothing. I've always, wanted a big wrap around porch so I can rock on a swing and read while there's a summer rain fallin
ReplyDeleteOoh, a wraparound porch! That's what I need!
DeleteAwesome places to read. I have never read in the rain but that does sound intriguing!
ReplyDeleteThis story sounds fun. Love rivals to lovers. Usually has great banter!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with their banter :)
Deletecongrats to CIndy on her new release! What is the one thing that you have to have or do while writing? Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have to have my music going & a cold Diet Mtn Dew by my side :)
DeleteReading in the rain is great! I love the sound of the rain, we ate outside on our covered deck in the rain.
ReplyDeleteSo nice! Love it!
DeleteReading outside after a rain sounds nice.
ReplyDeleteEverything smells so fresh :)
DeleteYou're new to me author... what got you started?
ReplyDeleteI've been writing for about 12 years now. I always had stories in my head, so shortly after I'd had my first baby I decided to spend her nap times putting them down. I fell in love with it and worked & worked to get to where I am now. :)
DeleteThe beach and by a pool are definitely my favorite places to read. I think if I tried to read in the rain, I would get distracted and just end up watching it instead of reading.
ReplyDeleteThere is something entrancing about a rainstorm. Since the hubby gets so nervous, I've sometimes just propped myself by an open window so I can read & enjoy the rain.
DeleteI enjoy reading in the rain and sleeping in the rain too....lol...though I could see where Cindy's husband could be worried about lightening. I loved reading her five fave places...makes me think I need to come up with five too
ReplyDeleteI recommend it! It makes you happy just thinking about all the reading possibilities :)
DeleteLovely places to read.
ReplyDeleteI don't handle heat very well and sunburn within 5 minutes, so my favorite summer reading spot is inside the air conditioned house. LOL
ReplyDeleteMarcy Shuler
I have to be careful about burning, too. I never tan either. Just go from red back to super pale. LOL
Deletefun places to read
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteI'm not much for hanging outdoors (I dislike bugs with a passion) but I do like to bring my books to the park or a BBQ as well!
ReplyDeleteFood + books = WIN! :)
DeleteI love reading in the rain. Although it usually turns into napping in the rain.
ReplyDeleteLol! Both are relaxing :)
DeleteSecond Chance Ranch sounds so good. :) Happy Summer, Cindi!
