Guest Post with Author Jennie Marts and Giveaway

USA TODAY Best-selling author Jennie Marts loves to make readers laugh as she weaves stories filled with love, friendship, and intrigue. She writes for Entangled Publishing, and reviewers call her books “laugh out loud” funny and full of great characters that are “endearing and relatable.”

She is living her own happily ever after in the mountains of Colorado with her husband, two sons, two dogs and a parakeet that loves to tweet to the oldies. She’s addicted to Diet Coke, adores Cheetos, and believes you can’t have too many books, shoes, or friends.

Her books include the contemporary western romance Hearts of Montana series, the romantic comedy/ cozy mysteries of The Page Turners series, the hunky men in the Bannister family in the Bannister Brothers Books, and the small town romantic comedies in the Lovestruck series of Cotton Creek Romances.

Thanks so much for helping me to celebrate the release of Romancing the Ranger- my newest book in Entangled Publishing’s Lovestruck line. It’s a romantic comedy about Reese Hudson, a city girl, who meets a hunky park ranger when she accidentally burns down a structure in his state park and is required to rebuild it under the ranger’s supervision.

Reese only meant to destroy mementos from her last failed relationship, not burn down an outhouse and incur the wrath of a sexy park ranger. When the judge rejects her offer to pay for the structure and sentences her to rebuild it—with the hot ranger supervising—she embraces the challenge to take control of her life.

Park ranger Wade Baker wants nothing to do with the rich city girl, no matter how tempting he finds her lush curves. She’s too much like his ex-fiancée, and if he’s learned anything, it’s that women like Reese don’t fit into his world. And he sure as hell wants no part of her big city life.

Reese may not know a hammer from a screwdriver, but she’s working hard to prove she’s not just some pampered princess to be toyed with. And damn it if Wade doesn’t admire her tenacious spirit. If only they got along half as well outside the bedroom as they do in it, there might be a chance for them after all…

Reese just wants to get away to her favorite place, and like a lot of us, that place of peace and solace is often found in nature. I’m lucky enough to live in Colorado where the view of the mountains is as close as looking at my front window. I’ve always felt that there is something special about the green leaves of the trees, the quiet sound of a forest, or the soothing rush of a waterfall. This story is special to me because my own hero, my husband, has been a park ranger and worked in parks for the last twenty years. So, we have visited numerous state parks and national monuments and you never know what nature has in store for you.

One of my funniest outdoor memories happened at Canyonlands outside of Moab, Utah. My husband and I were in college and visiting the park on our Spring Break. We were on a big hike and nature called. I climbed up the side of the rocks and found a sturdy branch to brace my leg against while my husband stood guard at the bottom. Unfortunately, right as I started to tinkle, the branch gave way, and I went sliding down the hill on my bum, shrieking, trying to find purchase with my shorts around my ankles, and my husband at the bottom trying to catch me while he laughed his head off. Other than a red face and a few scratches on my bum, I was fine, and we ended up with a story that my husband still tells while laughing like crazy (he might also mimic the hand motions I made as I slid down the hill).

I would love to hear about a funny thing that happened to you in nature. Anyone been chased by a bear? Or a bunny? Had a tent fall on you while camping or had a hiking mishap? Share in the comments, and I hope you enjoy a story about a city girl who finds herself adjusting to nature while finding herself falling for the hunky park ranger. This book is full of small town charm, sassy dialogue, and plenty of sizzle.

  1. I don't think I've read about a park ranger before, which is strange because I've read over 250 books every year since 1973. You'd think I would have by now!
    Thanks for sharing!

  9. obstacle course, climbing across a stream, upside down on a rope bridge, scary, especially when competing with mostly men

  10. We had just finished eating lunch when hiking in the Grand Tetons when a little mouse scurried up and started frantically rooting around looking for dropped bits of food. It didn't even care that we were still sitting there.

  12. When my son was younger, we went on the "Mother & Son" camp out for Boy Scouts. We are in this "pup" tent, in the freezing cold. My son doesn't like sweets, so we missed out on the s'mores. We have all our clothes on, sleeping almost on top of each other because the tent is so small, and watching a movie on his DVD! Nothing like "camping out" AND watching a movie on the DVD player. That was the end of Boy Scouts for him! Lol

  14. I love our national and state parks. They always are the most beautiful places. Probably the funniest thing that ever happened to me was when I was rafting in the Grand Canyon. The rules are that you have to pee in the river so as not to ruin the surrounding desert land. If you had to go while on the raft, the guys could just go to the back of the boat, but it was a bit more complicated for the women. Let's just say that someone, somewhere has a photo of me and 3 other women lined up on the side of the river with our shorts down around our knees.
