ARC Review: Temptation & Twilight by Charlotte Featherstone

Oh. My. Goodness. I could not put this book down. It was everything I was hoping for and so much more. When I first began this series by Charlotte Featherstone I immediately found myself gravitating towards the sparks between Elizabeth and Iain. There was just so much tension between them that I kept hoping that there was a story there. When I finished Charlotte's previous book Pride & Passion and learned that they did indeed have a shared past and that they would be the hero and heroine of the next book, June could not come fast enough. I've been itching to get my hands on this book and believe me it was definitely worth the wait. Oh how I LOVED it.

Twelve years ago when Lady Elizabeth York was just nineteen and Iain Sinclair, Marquis Alynwick was twenty one they had a torrid affair. Both spent the summer learning and loving one another. When Iain began to realize that his feelings for Elizabeth were growing stronger and into love he decided to break things off. He walked away from the only woman who ever held his heart and for the last twelve years he has spent his time living in regret. In an effort to forget his feelings for Elizabeth he has become the most notorious rake in London and has also taken on the moniker Mad Marquis.

For Elizabeth to say the last twelve years were hard for her is a vast understatement. Shortly after Iain walked away from her without any explanation what so ever she lost her eyesight. She has an ailment that was passed on from her mother that caused her to go blind. Because of this, Elizabeth has spent the last twelve years having to rely on others while at the same time keeping the  love affair she had with Iain a secret from everyone. She is still hurt and in pain and definitely doesn't want anything to do with Iain. To make matters worse is the fact that he is a Brethren Guardian along with her brother and he is constantly around.

When Iain is involved in a duel, and slightly injured he begins to realize that he doesn't want to ignore what is in his heart anymore. He is tired of denying himself of Elizabeth and the love he feels for her. He was foolish to walkaway all those years ago and he is determined to make her see that he is changed and that he loves her.

I seriously was anxious the whole entire time I read this book. I felt the pain both Elizabeth and Iain were experiencing and I felt the love they both felt for one another. There was just so many sparks between the two and I found myself quickly turning the pages to see what was going to happen. Would Elizabeth finally relent and forgive Iain for his past transgressions? Why exactly did Iain leave in the first place if he loved her so much? Seriously, I couldn't stop reading, watching everything unfold. These two have both been to hell and back and there was one specific scene with Elizabeth that broke my heart. I could feel her pain and I just wanted to make it better.

The author did such a good job conveying the pain and love between these two characters. Their story was truly one of redemption and forgiveness. If you are looking for a book that is filled with angst and drama I highly recommend Temptation & Twilight. It is definitely my favorite of the series and it is definitely going on my keeper shelf.

ARC Review: Pride & Passion by Charlotte Featherstone

I admit to being pleasantly surprised by this book. After reading the first book in this series (Scandal & Seduction) I wasn't too excited to read this book. The first book left me with a slightly bad taste, but that definitely was not the case with Pride & Passion. From the first page until the last this book held me enraptured. I was unable to stop reading. This book was just so good.

I love, love, love, loved the Duke of Sussex! I found it so refreshing that he was aware of his feelings toward Lucy and isn't afraid to let anyone know of them. I found that he also would say the sweetest things that would quite knock me off my feet. What girl doesn't want to be told that her man would die for you? I just found him to be so sweet and caring not only to Lucy but to his dear sister. Even though he knows Lucy doesn't exactly want to be with him, he is constantly patient with her and continues to show her why she should be with him.

As for Lucy, I had a far more difficult time warming up to her. I liked her but I just didn't love her. At times she came off a bit whiny and annoying. Her refusal to listen to Adrian and to actually see what a great man he is was infuriating at times. She just always expected the worse of him. And then I found when she does come around to him it just didn't feel natural. One moment she is hating him and the situation that they are in, and then all of a sudden all is forgiven and she is in love. It just didn't seem right. Don't get me wrong, I understand where she is coming from and why she is the way she is, it's just exasperating at times. I will say that I did like that Lucy is fiercely loyal and caring towards others. She cares about others needs regardless of their class or station in life. I just wish she would have opened her eyes toward Adrian a lot sooner.

After reading this book I can't wait to read the next story which is going to be about Alynwick. I find that his character tends to jump off the page when he's around and I'm dying to know more about him and Adrien sister Lizzy. That is a story that I am clamoring for, especially with how Pride & Passion ended.

ARC Review: Seduction & Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone

I have a bevy of mixed emotions when it comes to this book and not all of them are good. It's not as if I hated this book, but I sure didn't like it too much at least for the first half of the book. It took me awhile to get into a groove of reading this book. Also, it took me awhile to figure out what kind of story it was. During the beginning of the book it had a lot of paranormal elements that seem to all but disappear towards the end of the book. I found myself continuously turning the page hoping that it would get better. It finally did, but towards the second half of the book and to me, it only got slightly better. I had a hard time connecting with the hero. I did not understand what the Earl of Black was aiming for when it came to Isabella. He seems to have such strong feelings towards her but whenever he is with her, he just talks about bedding her. Umm, those are not the words a female wants to hear. I just don't understand why he was so hestitant to tell he loved her when he has supposedly loved her from afar for two years now.

One thing I did enjoy with this story were all of the secondary characters. I really found that I liked Sussex and I can't wait to read about his and Lucy's HEA. Also, there seemed like there was some underlining tension between Elizabeth and Alynwick that I would too see more of. All in all I would like to read the rest of the series I just won't be buying the books. I'll just wait and check them out from my local library.
