ARC Review: Shadows Strike by Dianne Duvall

Book six in the Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall, Shadow Strike, is a fantastic read. I really enjoyed reading this book. I love Ethan; he was the one you hope will get his HEA in the last book Night Unbound. Heather is the perfect fit for him a balance to Ethan; practical to his humor, and strong enough to fight with him and standup to him. This book can be read as a stand-alone but to really you should at least read the book before. Books 1-4 follows with one story arc and Night Unbound is the start of another. This book has one fantastic and slightly creepy opening line; and from that point it has you hooked.

Eons ago, The Other’s an immortal race was forbidden to interact with the human race for fear that it would bring about Armageddon. Until one immortal fell in love and risked it all to be with her. In the time since Seth has protected the human race against the vampires that threaten them and Seth created the Immortal Guardians. Zach another immortal has also fallen in love and joined forces with Seth but he wasn’t the only one; one more has left The Other’s and is demented and crazed enough to start the end of the world himself.

Ethan has been felling lonely, it seems like everyone around him has found love. As one of the youngest Guardians he shouldn’t be too impatient but the woman he thought he loved has fallen in love with someone else. Heather Lane has been plagued by the same dream for the past year so she has been going out to the clearing by her house where it happens every morning and waits. Finally one morning, just like in her dreams, seven vampires stumble into clearing along with one very large sexy man. Raised the daughter of a General she was taught how to defend herself together with the sexy man the kill all the vampires. Ethan assumes Heather is already part of The Network, the human side if the Immortal Guardians, but when Heather explains why she just happened to be there Ethan has to explain it all because it’s obvious she is a Gifted One, but her gift isn’t a precog, she is a telepath but that doesn’t explain the reoccurring dream. Ethan and Heather have an instant connection but it still takes two weeks before Ethan goes to see Heather again only to be attacked again by more vampires. Heather saves Ethan from death only to risk her own. Seth saves her and sees in her mind that Gershom, the crazy Other out to destroy the world, is behind it. Combined with an incident with one of the doctors at The Network and the attack of U.S. military bases is planning something very bad. They take a risk and recruit Heather’s father, General Milton Lane, and some of his trusted men.

Overall, I couldn’t have enjoyed this book anymore than I did. It has the right amount of sexual tension and sex. Dianne Duvall has a real knack with her action scenes with so much happening but you don’t get lost in the description. It is tense that I found myself holding my breath during the fighting. I hope Aidan gets his book next. I also wish I didn’t have to wait a year for the next one.

Feature and Giveaway: Shadows Strike by Dianne Duvall

The Immortal Guardians protect the innocent in secret. Sometimes the secret gets out...

U.S. law enforcement agent Heather Lane can read minds. But not the future. The dream of battle and blood that recurs every night must be a fluke, some obscure terror from her own mind. What its significance might be, she can’t guess: an attack from seven psychotic vampires at once, only separated from nightmare by an eighth very different immortal. A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes.

Then the dream comes true. Heather is flung into a war between predators and protectors of humanity, the man from her dreams beside her again. Except now that she’s awake, she isn’t sure she can trust Ethan, or the shadow organization he represents. The U.S. military doesn’t trust either of them. But against an onslaught of evil like the one that’s coming, it will take everything they have just to survive...

ARC Review: Night Unbound by Dianne Duvall

Why have I not heard of this series before now? The Immortal Guardians series is a paranormal romance where immortals are fighting bad vampires. Night Unbound is the fifth book in the series and the start of a new story arc. All the other books up to this point aren’t imperative, I haven’t read them and it was such an easy story to get sucked into. All the stuff you need to know is said and/or explained. The characters are all my favorite kind of people the four S’s; smart, strong, sexy, and smart asses. The story is in-depth and complicated, when it comes to writing it all down for a review, it is all coherent and works well as it comes together in an explosive ending.

Lisette d'Alençon is one of the few female Immortal Guardians and everyone while they all respect her strength they are very protective of her. She has no problem standing on her own as one of the better fighters in the group and would do anything for Seth and their beliefs. Until she does the one thing that is bound to get her on Seth’s shit list she falls for Zach. No one really knows who he is they only know Seth doesn’t like him. Zach is the same as Seth, kind of, when eons ago Seth sided with the humans Zach and the ilk band him and shunned him saying he was going to bring about Armageddon. Zach never understood why Seth risked it all until he met Lisette. Everything Zach has done in the past has to been to get close to her. Seth finds out what Zach has been doing and automatically assumes the worse, that he was the one to betray him and injures him enough that it lures the others to Zach and Zach for all he has done to help the humans is captured and tortured. Zach concentrates on Lisette the whole time enduring far more than ever because he escapes in to Lisette’s dreams. Lisette is fascinated by the winged hunk that shows up sporadically. Lisette as a telepath has almost no control over her power when she sleeps and isn’t all that surprised the Zach keeps showing up each night appearing more injured and weak. One night Zach shows up beaten and almost dead. Lisette calls the two people she knows she can trust and nurses him back to health.

The secret of Lisette and Zach isn’t kept for long when trouble with the crazy vampire threat heightens to a new level and Seth doesn’t know who he can trust anymore. It doesn’t take long for it all to sort out and finger the next person to blame. Everything falls in place as it becomes evident that the unknown enemy is something they really never expected. I am so going to read the other books in this series and really looking forward to reading more.

Interview with Author Dianne Duvall and Giveaway

Hi everyone, today I would like to welcome to the blog the lovely Dianne Duvall. Dianne is currently on tour promoting her newest release Night Reigns, which I totally can't wait to get my hands on! Seriously, if you haven't read Dianne's Immortal Guardian series you are missing out and you definitely need to rush out and buy Darkness Dawns. You will thank me, it's so good! Dianne was kind enough to allow me to ask her a few questions and I would love to share them all with you.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Thanks so much for having me here at Ramblings From This Chick, Danielle. I am an avid reader and love all things creative. I also love happy endings, so romance writing is my favorite activity, with reading a close second. When I’m not doing those, I work in the independent film industry, another great outlet for creativity, though I will admit I’m camera shy and don’t often appear onscreen.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I’ve always enjoyed writing and creating stories. I actually wrote my first romance when I was twelve or thirteen. And I began writing poetry in high school. But it wasn’t until college, after exploring journalism and playwriting, that I realized romance writing was what I wanted to pursue as my profession.

Where do your ideas come from?
Everywhere. My imagination is constantly active, drawing inspiration from everything around me. Ideas can come from dreams, documentaries, biographies, intriguing settings, inanimate objects, strangers walking past . . . pretty much anything that catches my attention and makes me think, “What if . . .?” The last time I did the laundry at night, for example, I stood in front of the washing machine, sorting clothes, with my back to the dim garage, and wondered what would happen if I were to turn around, look up, and see a large, slimy, humanoid creature creeping across the ceiling toward me. :-) So I never know what might spark that next idea.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book NIGHT REIGNS in 140 characters or less.
Grieving immortal Marcus Grayden is assigned a new Second . . . who proves to be immensely distracting and turns his world upside down.
