ARC Review: The Lost Soul of Lord Badewyn by Mia Marlowe

Another exciting installment to the Order of the M.U.S.E. series by Mia Marlowe. As with the previous two books, I loved her mix of historical England with magic. There wasn't anything I can think of that had any negative affect on me. I was interested from beginning to end. The characters drew me in and wouldn't let me go!

Meg Anthony grew up under the custody of her uncle who used her extraordinary ability of "finding" things to his advantage. She hated many of the things he would make her do, and somehow she escaped the uncle and came under the protection of the Duke of Camden. Unfortunately for Miss Anthony, her uncle tracks her down, so the entire Order comes to the decision for Meg to visit a friend in the country and lay low for awhile.

Samuel, Lord Badewyn is a human/angel who has some bad history making him avoid marriage like the plague. He has an ability to see the future, and from this sometimes aids the Order. When Meg arrives at his home, he finds himself torn between his will not to be with any woman and his interest and attraction.

What I found enchanting about the love story in this book was that both characters truly believed they didn't deserve the other. I am particularly drawn to those types of characters, and to see both sides of the couple acting that way was new to me. I thought that a large conflict for this book would be Meg's uncle, but he turned out to be a minor threat. I didn't foresee the issues that the couple would face until it happened, and I really enjoyed that.

There is a sub plot that has been occurring through the series concerning the Duke of Camden. It was summed up in this book as well. It gave me the impression that the series was finished. However, Marlowe did leave some loose ends I think she may come back to in the future. At least I truly hope she does! I enjoyed this book tremendously.

ARC Review: The Madness of Lord Westfall by Mia Marlowe

The Madness of Lord Westfall was very fast paced from the beginning. The Order of the M.U.S.E. has a new lead on a artifact that can endanger the Royals. Lords Westfall and Stanstead go to a soiree held by Lord Albemarle to see what they can discover. This is the first time Pierce Westfall meets Nora Claremont. Pierce can read her thoughts and she immediately grabs his attention in both a good and bad way.

Honora Claremont is a widow turned mistress. She is currently under the protection of Lord Albemarle, and knows several of his deepest secrets. This puts Westfall in an awkward position, as he quickly falls in love with her, but he has a mission which involves invading the privacy of her thoughts. She is skeptical of his early declaration of love. It's a dangerous game for her to fall in love with her profession.

The two have a very sexy couple of encounters, and Pierce learns a way to convince Honora to leave her protector and become his wife. He does a very very stupid thing. Once Honora discovers what he tries to do for her she feels so unworthy of his obvious love.

The heat level in this book is pretty good, like with it's predecessor. I like the way Mia Marlowe involves the Extroardinaire's gifts within the intimate scenes. It gives the experience more of a fantasy. Which reminds me I need to mention, this book does have some "magic" in it. The group of people who make up the M.U.S.E. all have supernatural gifts. That may not be your thing, but it sure was for me!

ARC Review: The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe

Mia Marlowe knows how to write romance... and fantasy, and action! And then she spins her tale in Regency England. I found it very hard to pick a genre for this book, but I decided on a Historical Romance with Magic. I thought this was amazing. It brought together all of my favorite genres: Historical, Romance, and Fantasy. Then the icing on the cake, she wrote the story so very well!

Cassandra Darkin has been freaking out, because fires have been going out of control around her recently. It’s impossible that it’s her fault right? On top of that, the man she loves is marrying another girl, one who has the connections his family requires. Cassie’s family is very well off, and her father recently received a baronetcy. Sadly this isn’t enough for full acceptance within the ton since they acquired their money through trade.

Garrett Sterling is sent on a mission to find the new Fire Psychic that has emerged in England. He takes this task as he does all others, something he must do to get what he needs from the Duke of Camden. Garrett has the ability to put thoughts in other peoples’ heads. Unfortunately, because of the more difficult part of his ability, he keeps everyone at a distance to protect them. The Duke has promised to help him learn to control his abilities.

Garrett tracks down Cassie and takes her to the Duke of Camden, the head of the Order of the MUSE. It is an organization protecting the Prince Regent with their unusual abilities. The Duke offers to help Cassie with her new powers if she agrees to help their cause. Upon accepting, Cassie learns that the recent release of her powers came from her losing her virtue. She learns her powers are tied to her sensuality, and she needs Garrett to help her keep it under control.

The two become a team and have to do some missions for the MUSE. Despite his attempts to keep Cassie at a distance, Garrett starts to love her. Cassie struggles with the loss of her first love. I loved Garrett! He was everything I look for in a tortured hero! Cassie was such a delight to read about. I liked her personality. The missions the two undertake were very exciting, and they all tied together nicely in the end. Some of the mysteries become apparent to the reader before the characters, and I did get frustrated that they didn’t realize it. All in all, I loved this book and I highly anticipate the next Order of the M.U.S.E. book!

Interview with Author Mia Marlowe and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome author Mia Marlowe to the blog. Mia is super nice and she has a bunch of books that will be releasing soon. Also, Mia is one of the fabulous authors behind the Rock*It Reads group, which is a group of published authors who got together to help readers identify quality self published stories. With everything Mia has got going on right now she took some time to answer some questions I had for her, though before we get to the interview, lets get to know a bit about Mia.

Award winning author Mia Marlowe writes historical romance for Kensington Publishing and Sourcebooks. Her debut title received acclaim from romance luminaries. #1 New York Times bestseller Victoria Alexander says Mia's Touch of a Thief has "adventure and heat and everything I want in a great story!" UK's BooksMonthly has crowned Mia Marlowe "the queen of saucy historical romance."

Mia learned much of what she knows about storytelling from singing. A classically trained soprano, she won the District Metropolitan Opera Auditions and shared a stage with Placido Domingo. As she prepared for operatic roles, she devised back stories for her characters. Since she's worn a real corset, and had to sing high C's in one, she empathizes with the trials of her fictional heroines. But in Mia's stories, they don't die in a Parisian garret. They get to live and keep the hero!
