Behind the Blogger: Kati from Romancing Rakes

Welcome to Behind the Blogger. Behind the Blogger is a feature where I interview and get to know fellow bloggers from different blogs in the blogosphere.

This weeks guest is Kati from Romancing Rakes. Kati is super awesome and I honestly don't know what this blog would be like if it wasn't for all of her help and guidance. She kindly answers so many of my annoying questions and she is always willing to help. So if you haven't stopped by Romancing Rakes before you definitely should.

1. Why did you become a blogger?
I've been blogging since high school. Remember Xanga? lol. I just like sharing my thoughts with others and it's an excuse for me to post half nekkid men on Mondays. Okay, truthfully? For free books. :)

2. Can you tell me a little bit about your blog?
My blog is a mixture of weekly memes, half nekkid man pics, reviews (which I'm slowly trying to get the hang of) and sporadic giveaways.

3. What is your favorite book(s)? Why?
Can I say Jenn LeBlanc's book? lol. My favorite book of all time is Cinderella. Add a twist to it like Lila DiPasqua's A MIDNIGHT DANCE or Eloisa James' A KISS AT MIDNIGHT and I'll pick it up.

4. Is there a scene from a book that just stands out to you? What is it?
Can it be something super dirty and slightly sexy? Of course it can. We're all adults here, right? In Alexandra Hawkins' ALL NIGHT WITH A ROGUE he does something deliciously wicked with a pearl necklace. Let me tell you, it gave a new meaning to pearl necklace.

5. Who are some of your go-to authors?
Victoria freaking Dahl! Julie Anne Long, Tessa Dare, Victoria Alexander, Lara Adrian, Elizabeth Hoyt

6. What are some of your favorite genres?
Historicals will always be my first love. I love a good paranormal and have been spending more time on contemporaries.

7. When reviewing, do you stick to the books that you normal like to read, or are you more open?
I'm a sucker for a good cover (Hello. My name is Kati and I'm a cover ho.) so I will pick up that book. I stick to books that I normally like to read or authors that I'm familiar with. I'm starting to branch out though.

8. What are some of your favorite tropes? What about those tropes pulls you in?
Friends to lovers or best friends' sister. It just makes for a hilarious read especially the best friends' sister. You know that the hero will use that excuse but HEA is right around the corner once he realizes that the heroine has grown up.

9. What was the last book that blew your mind?
Victoria Dahl's REAL MEN WILL. I swear you need a safe word when reading her. I mean that in a good way. Just hot.

10. Do you have any advice for other aspiring bloggers?
Write what you know, read what you like (sometimes step out of that comfort zone), participate in weekly memes to get to know your fellow bloggers, interact in all forms of social media, tweet links to your posts. Blogging should be a labor of love, not something you do because everyone else is doing it.

11. When you aren't blogging, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to read. But no seriously, I love driving up and down the coast (I live in California) and just spending time at the beach ogling behind my awesome aviators. I've become a pathological picture taker (thanks Jenn). I might start a blog to share my pictures. I love going to museums.

Thank you Kati so much for stopping by and sharing with us. =)
I’m a big fan of book covers. I am one of those people who does judge a book by its cover. Throw in a stepback and it will probably most likely end up in the basket.

Let me share with you 5 of my favorite types of covers and I bet you’ll agree with #1.
1.      Abtastic/Shirtless- Yes. 8 packs that I want to run my hands over and trace each and every ridge. A ripple of muscle along the obliques, a flash of the anterior serratus, a glimpse of the coccyx, a full frontal of the polyclitus girdle. I like talking dirty when it comes to naming body parts... (I learned my anatomy lesson from Jenn LeBlanc and her model.)
2.      PINK: hot pink, pastel pink, cotton candy pink... My favorite color is pink. My eyes will be drawn to any book that’s pink. (Have you seen Shana Galen’s LORD AND LADY SPY? That cover is pink and a fabulous read. Or Sarah MacLean’s ELEVEN SCANDALS TO START TO WIN A DUKE’S HEART? Bright pink and the title is just clever.)

3.      The clinch- Usually with the heroine straddling the hero. There’s nothing sexier than the clinch.
4.      Highlanders- Kilt, broadsword, giant ass biceps? Yes please! You can’t go wrong with a highlander book.
5.      Holiday covers/titles- I love holiday books. Winter and Christmas seem magical to me and it’s my favorite time of the year. Eloisa James’s AN AFFAIR BEFORE CHRISTMAS and A VISIT FOR SIR NICHOLAS by Victoria Alexander are two of my favorite holiday romances (the spines are cracked, the pages are dog-eared. LOL.)

So, what about you? Are there certain covers that you drool over or do bypass the cover, go straight to the blurb or use the page 99 test?

  2. I'm not particular fond of the super sweet romance covers but I absolutely adore the shirtles ones :)

    Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

  3. Hate to say it, but I'm a total 'cover' gal. 'Shouldn't judge a book by it's cover', but it's hard not to.
I agree with 3 of the 5 favorite types of covers listed. Anything with a hot man, so that pretty much covers all 3. LOL

  5. Hi ladies! Thanks for stopping by. I just love, love, love covers and I've started color coding them on my shelves (I blame Jamie for the color coding part).

@Nimue: Don't we all? Give me a shirtless man any day!

@Sebrina: I guess you could mix and match some of the covers since quite a few have a mixture of what I've got listed.

@Jenn: Yes. You're THAT Jenn. Thank you for teaching me all I need to know about gorgeous man parts... *inappropriate*

Thanks Dani for hosting me :)

  6. I do tend to go for the hot looking cover, then will read the blurb and that will usually do it for me ;)

  7. Most of the time when I go into a book store, I know what I want. I have several authors and series I try to keep up on. But, on the occasion that something else catches my eye or I'm just browsing, covers and cover art is what catches my eye first. The blurb on the back is usually what seals the deal. If I'm not feeling the blurb then I usually skim through the pages

  8. I love it when the cover conveys what the book is all about and spikes up your interest into buying it XD
