Interview with Author Addison Fox and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome to RFTC, author Addison Fox. Addison is celebrating the recent release of her book Tempting Acquisitions and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Please give Addison a warm welcome.

Addison Fox can’t remember a time when words weren’t part of her life. An avid reader, her love of the written word started at the tender age of one with The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear (a poem she could recite by heart to any family member who would listen.) Dr. Seuss, C.S. Lewis, Judy Blume and a host of others quickly followed until she discovered THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR by Jean M. Auel while writing a paper at the library in the seventh grade. Although not a classic romance, Ayla and Jondalar’s love story moved her firmly into the romance section and she hasn’t looked back!

Her paranormal romance series, The Sons of the Zodiac, launched with NAL in March of 2010. The series recounts the adventures (and path to true love!) for an immortal band of warriors, granted the powers of their astrological signs and charged with protecting humanity.

Beginning in November 2011, Addison will have a new contemporary series on shelves as well. BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE is the first in the Alaskan Nights series. Set in the fictional town of Indigo, Alaska, a couple of city girls are about to learn that the wide open spaces of Alaska just may hold everything they’re looking for.

Addison lives in Dallas. She loves to get email from readers.

Places to find Addison:

First off, can you please tell us a bit about you?
Thanks so much for having me!!

I'm a romance writer across genres including paranormal and contemporary as well as series length contemporary series length romantic suspense. I absolutely love romance in all forms and am an avid reader in addition to my love of writing. I'm also a big foodie and wine lover and I truly love and enjoy spending time with family and friends. I live in Dallas.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I came to writing pretty early and have always played with writing in some for or another, but I always say I got truly serious about it in my mid-20s. That was when I joined RWA and my local Dallas chapter. I'd written two books up to that point, but it was joining RWA that really helped me focus on my goals and begin to see a path toward publication if I kept working toward it, honing my craft and learning the business.

What kind of writer are you - pantser or plotter?
I'm a pantser when I write, but I do work off of an overarching plot. My publishers require a story synopsis as part of my contracts and that really forces me to consider the overall story - who the characters are, who they will be by the end of the book and what they will face.

Where do your ideas come from?
I can honestly say everywhere! I can see a news article or hear someone mention something or visit a place and ideas start brewing.

I realized several years ago that this is just the way I see the world. Everybody has a story and I'm always thinking up how those stories might play out in my head!

A la Twitter-style, can you describe your book in 140 characters or less?
Tempting Acquisitions:
From boardroom to bedroom, two strong-willed people are in the corporate fight of their lives…and their hearts.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I'm a huge romance reader and probably 80-90% of what I read in a year is romance. I also love YA and Middle Grade, thrillers and mysteries (I'm especially hooked on cozies lately) and I also really enjoy urban fantasy.

I love strong characters - no matter the genre - and find the authors who can deliver that in a read are authors I come back to over and over again.

Do you have a favorite book and if so, what is it?
HAPPY EVER AFTER by Nora Roberts is my favorite book. Everything about that book speaks to me, most especially the characters' world view. And I LOVE the hero. Oh, my (fanning self) is he yummy!!

What are the scenes that are hardest for you to write?
I'm not sure any scene is “easier” than any other, but I do find I tend to write action scenes the slowest and usually edit those the most. I find accurately describing the action - while keeping the pace high - usually requires a different sort of focus from my brain. (I'm sure anyone who saw me writing an action scene would laugh - I'm usually twisting in my chair or up and acting it out in my office...)

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Nora Roberts, Stephen King and Elizabeth Peters.

I love the writing of all three authors (though I'm limited on what I can read of King's since he scares me silly) but what strikes me about all of them is how dedicated and focused they are to the craft of storytelling.

These are authors who have worked at an incredible pace, for several decades each, all consistently publishing incredibly high-quality work. I have such deep admiration for their work ethics and their love of storytelling and I'd likely spend the entire dinner fan-girling over all of them!

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I'm currently working on an upcoming Harlequin Romantic Suspense novel, THE LONDON DECEPTION. The book will be the second in my House of Steele series (think “The Thomas Crown Affair” meets “Leverage.”) I also recently finished up edits on the second book in the Boardrooms and Billionaires series, MERGER TO MARRIAGE, which will be out in May.

So now I've got a question for everyone! The “what author would I like to have dinner with” question was so much fun to answer, I'd love to hear from you all. What authors would be your dream dinner companions?

CEO Keira McBride has put more than a decade of blood, sweat, and tears into restoring her family’s magazine empire and knows she can handle any business challenge thrown her way…until sexy billionaire and corporate raider Nathan Cooper makes a play for her legacy.

Nathan’s not accustomed to losing and neither is Keira. When an all-consuming attraction threatens to devour them both, Nathan makes it clear he wants to move their relationship out of the boardroom and into the bedroom. Keira knows it’s going to be the negotiation of her life and the stakes have never been higher. This time, her heart is on the line…

Right now there's no immediate plan to release the book in print, but my publisher is evaluating that on a case by case basis.

  17. Dream dinner companions.... ooh how about the cast from the Big Bang Theory... I just adore that show.
So what made you write about Alaska?
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Oooh - that would be neat. I LOVE that show and I love how they keep evolving the cast.

The Alaska series came out of a small blurb I read about an annual competition in Talkeetna, Alaska called the "Wild Wilderness Woman" Competition. It struck me as a fun concept for a romance and the rest sort of steam-rolled from there!
